Thanks for making this video Maark. My light started staying on yesterday. I'm about to work on my 2003 xterra. now I know why my cruise control hasn't been working as well. On club xterra forum someone mentioned using a rubber grommet (tab) like in bottom of a desktop computer or other small appliance but I like your idea using the plastic bolt. I think the tip about leaving the xterra idling will be a big help.

    Hey, "Maarkie Marrk
", you rock! a) you are very kind and generous to have taken the time to make this video and to share it with us publicly. I have the same problem with my Nissan X Terra 2003. I haven't checked out the brake light ("lamp") switch yet, BUT, this was REALLY helpful! If the switch was fine but the problem still existed. I would have been very confused. But, your video gave me a new perspective on determining the problem, (versus "putting all my eggs in the 'broken brake switch basket"! ;) b) You were VERY polite and considerate during your presentation. KUDOS, man! We ALL wish there were many more people like you.
Anyway, this is my way of saying THANK YOU, DUDE! Be well, be joyful and be prosperous in all ways, always, Joseph

Thanks man. I'm very flattered by this. I appreciate your comments. Well, if you are in a situation where you can find a way to give back to the public in any way, I will encourage you to go for it! This was just a temporary fix. But it has helped several viewers. God bless you Sir and thanks again.. 👍👍👍👍👍

Super easy fix! The key is to turn on the ignition, press in the brake pedal when installing the pin stopper. Takes less then 30 seconds...really.
    1) pull the fuse under the dash to turn off the brake light
    2) look for pieces of the stopper on the floor board to confirm that the stopper is the problem
    3) locate the the Stop Lamp Switch and the ASCD Brake Switch located at the top of the brake pedal (stand on your head for that part)
    4) If there is no stopper at the end of the switch(s) then order the part from the Nissan Dealer or Auto Parts store ...probably the only part Nissan still carries for the 2000 Xterra
    5) Insert the stopper in the end (round side goes in the hole)
    6) Reinstall the fuse
    7) Check to see that the brake lights are working (or the cruise control if that needed to be replaced too!) Your ready to go!

This just happened to my 2000 Xterra thanks for the heads up on the steering column bracket. I was about to try and take that off. It's 97 degrees right now so I'm gonna wait until it gets a little cooler to tackle this. Btw your Xterra looks nice mine is starting to fade.

That's great George! Come back and tell me how everything went please. Yes it was the best SUV in my life! Did a knock sensor replacement, spark plugs replacements, crankshaft position sensor replacement, total tune up and then sold it. My biggest mistake. Should've kept her. New tires, everything was top maintenance. I cry about it still lol.
Thanks for looking at my video.

@@midnightboymc I ended up using those self adhesive pads you put on the bottom of chair legs to keep them from scuffing floors, so far so good. Now I have to fix my right turn signal and a small hole on my radiator and the motor is beginning to rough idle. With a 20 yr. old car if it's not one thing it's a bunch of other things. Oh well.

Same issue on mine...went to Oreilys and bought a pack of Nissan plastic "bumper clips"...that was it, snapped that bad boy on in that bracket hole on the top end of the brake pedal and the flat end of the clip was making contact with the button on the switch...problem solved with under 5 minutes of labor with your knowledge/help. Thanks!!

Video was not helpful for me because it does’t show you how to install the bolt where the stop pad goes. There is not enough room to install bolt and install nut.
