DJI Osmo Action 4 vs GoPro Hero 11 Black on Track

  • I compare footage from a DJI Osmo Action 4 with that from a GoPro Hero 11 Black. Both are taken within one session of each other on the same day at Eagles Canyon Raceway. Setting is 2.7K at 60 fps. The DJI needs a GPS remote ($79 extra) to add telemetry overlap but the GoPro has GPS built-in. With the additional $79, the DJI is the more expensive one. Post production editing is easier with GoPro because you can use the Quik App on your iPad or your iPhone. To get telemetry on DJI footage, you must use your Phone...you cannot do it on your iPad. That's a bummer. For motorcycles, the GoPro ball joint swivel mount is superior to anything that DJI has because the GoPro ball joint mount can be rotated to the correct angle to get stunning footage. Let me know what you think of the footage and what you feel are the relative advantages or disadvantages of one over the other.

I wonder if the funky gps data was due to where you mount the module. My solo2 and GoPro acted funny next to my electronic ohlins too.

Hmm! Possible. But the Solo2 is mounted where it should be and I generally get clean lap times from it. The GoPro was mounted at the same location as the DJI and had clear GPS track map as you can see. The DJI GPS remote could be worn around the wrist...I could try that next time and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks very much for your thoughts about these two cameras. Have you used any of the wide angle GoPro offerings e.g. the "max lens mod?"

I thought I had a max lens mod GoPro video in my collection but I can't find it. To answer your question, I have. The max lens mod is very cool and opens up the view. So, I do like the max lens mod very much!
