I bought the DJI A 4 the day it was released and I love it... What pleased me most about your video was here is a Guy who openly says it didn't jump out of the box and start recording epic video. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned. I felt reassured and much less like a 'Tech Moron'
Haha, I’m here for you David!
@@JBOutside1 SUBSCRIBED !
Wow! Just your 3 minute intro had me applauding! All those interesting, sorely needed issues, and I need to hear about each one. Thank you❗
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing those great tips. This video was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
This looks great compared to the GOpro 10 I have. So do you recommend this over a go pro if you have the DJI mic system?
I do. Works great with the DJI mics.
I have the remote control from osmo a 2 - and it works perfectly on osmo 3 and 4
Nice!!
So do i
Glad i found this
Nice!! Thanks for watching
Thank you so much
No problem
GoPro removed GPS from Hero 12 - bye. So here I am. Thanks for the video.
Haha, yeah I had no idea that was happening.
Hi, thanks for very informative video. May i have to purchase the remote gps or it has itsown on Action 4 Mimo app for adding at export video ? Thanks you
You need the GPS Remote to get the GPS info
Good day. Is it possible to download an example of the original video with GPS data somewhere? I want to understand if it is possible to work with a file and data in third-party software
Sorry, that footage has been “archived”
Hmmmm... I bought the X3 a few months back for outdoors B roll footage and totally see what you mean about it getting grainy when you get closer in. The action 4 footage looks amazing
I have considered trying the Leica 1" version of this camera but it's a little pricey. It's also a little heavier so not as convenient for the motorcycle. The X3 is great in full sun situations outside but other than that it's just meh for image quality. I've decided that anytime I know where to point the camera and won't need multiple shots the Action 4 is king right now.
@@JBOutside1 sold... I'll take three. Do you have an Amazon affil link? I'll pick one up from that
I have an x3 and I want to love it but when you reframe the footage it’s just not that great. In full sun at noon it’s decent but besides that it’s not very good. Just ordered a action 4.
@@Matt.Bogosian would love to hear your thoughts too Matt when yours arrives 👍
Have many. . . GP Hero, insta360_X3, Action 4, DJI Air 3.
Hands down, DJI offers the best video quality.
Very, very disappointed with insta360 X3.
Sent best video to insta. Asked if there is something wrong. Was told that is normal.
Awesome Tips and presentations
After you edit the clips via mobile what is going to happen if my clips are 10 bit not colour graded and i have to grade them later ? Will I also grade the UI of the gauge meters ?
Yes. It’ll all be on one layer.
I have the Samsung S24 Ultra! I’m going to test their mode/routine feature to see if I can create a flow that recognizes the Action 4 is connected/disconnected and it will turn on/off cellular without my intervention. I’ll let you know. Great video!
Oh nice! Let me know
Hey, i don't know what i am doing wrong, I bought the remote paired it to my djia4 recorded my video but the only dashboard option is g - force, do i have to turn it on? i setting that is the remote is on
Not sure. Check firmware. Maybe some of the options are unchecked?
Thank you for the info. May I ask what iPhone case you have?
I typically use a Nomad sport case
hi any tips when i change angle its so fast any tips to slow it down when changing scenes
I guess I’m not sure what exactly you’re asking, but if you increase the frame rate you can slow the footage down after when editing.
NICE VIDEO!so the low light Enhanced works if you have under 30fps and stabilization closed?thanks
Yes.
I am finding the same extraction issues with the OSMO 4 GPS overlays.
The app just crashes after 10-15 minutes of waiting.
I guess my 1.5hr dirt bike race videos will not have overlays. Very unfortunate as that is why I purchased this camera and GPS.
Lesson Learned. Thanks for the video.
You bet! I’ve recently been back with the Insta360 Go 3. So easy to do with Insta360
JB even though the Action 4 is magnetic mount, does it have a lanyard point ie can connect a safety wire (incase the mount comes off). IE mounting on a motorbike or an aircraft). This is a consideration for those action outdoor people who film stuff. Thankyou
This is a great question and the answer is no. None of the action cams I have (DJI, GoPro, Insta360) have lanyard attachment points. But you can easily secure them using a cage of some sort. The ones I have are really useful and expand the mounting options too
Hi, did you manage to export video with the GPS data in 4k with DJI Mimo app? I'm limited to 1080p.
No. Just 1080
Hi David, do you experience connection issues wit the X3 and the remote? I had a One R with the remote and the connection failed almost each time. A common issue as I found out later so I returned the remote. I'm planning to buy the X3 with the remote but am in doubt.
Not at all
Can you get a still image from a video on the dji osmo action 4?
I haven’t tried within the app. But you could certainly take a still on the computer.
@00:09 and @03:19 - what settings were used? Is this normal color, DLOGM, etc.?
Sorry for the delay. Been away all week and I wanted to double check the footage before I answered. Those are both 4K30 shots using normal color profile and Linear view. Horizon balance. Hope this helps.
@@JBOutside1 Thanks!
Do you have any idea where I can buy this gps remote to ship it to Romania ?
Sorry I don’t.
RE the GPS/Bluetooth remote, have you figured out how to change the km/h to mph? I just got the GPS remote today and took a video with the Osmo 4 and when you add the speed telemetry, you tap the icon on the screen and will give the option to switch from km/h to mph. Otherwise, great video, thanks for the tips.
Yes, I did get that figured out. I wish it defaulted to that but good that you can change!
Where did you get the GPS remote? They don't have it on their website.
It’s out of stock currently. I suggest signing up to be notified. That’s how I picked it up.
I use my action 4 on an airplane mounted to the rear wing. The wifi connection via my iphone is just out of range in the cockpit but if I hold my phone behind me it barely connects. Does anyone know if the Action 4 remote has better range then an iphone connection!???
Great question. I am betting on YES but I will try and test that out this week
Thank you very much!
@@JBOutside1
Thanx. Great video. So, basically you say that the remote is a waste of money. Not easy to use, Very cumbersome. So thanx for that.
Sort of. If you really want that GPS info it’s the only way. I’ve discovered some additional functionality but not a lot
@ 4:19 you are showing a video, POV the motorcyclist with the Osmo Action 4 on an extender directed back toward the driver (I think?). Per the @5:17 section, this video appears to be something the motorcyclist enjoys later while re-appreciating the excursion. But I don't see a link in the equipment list for the remote attached to handlebar or wrist that is the source of the data. Am I overlooking it? Thank you.
What you see here is done after you get back. It’s an overlay on the video using the GPS data recorded during the ride.
@@JBOutside1 Thank you, and you beat my edit to that comment as I was beginning to figure it out from continuing to rerun your video. And I learned from the comments below the remote is a DJI option and has been hard to come by but I haven't looked yet.
Does the remote only work with the 4, I have the 3 and the 2’s remote works great with the 3 but no GPS? I use my 3 for moto vlogging so GPS would be great.
No option on the 3 to connect the GPS remote currently
@@JBOutside1 Shame, you have a new subscriber, great breakdown.👍
Thanks a lot. To go over smartphone to add GPS data is a show stopper. Takes far too much time in case of action 4.
Agree
I hope davinci resolve has possibilities to add gps data.
Hi you mentioned the remote is waterproof, I contacted DJi today after looking on the dji Australia website to purchase and the chat service stated it was not waterproof and the website has no mention of being waterproof. Are you sure?
If it’s not waterproof, it’s definitely water resistant. While I wouldn’t submerge it I don’t worry about it while riding
As long as you are correctly connected to your phone via the 'Action Osmo Network' then all vids/pics on your camera should show up in the album on your phone, no problem.
Yes I agree, but it doesn’t work that way. Something about “signal interference” according to tech support 🤷🏼♂️
Have you tested the controller with Osmo Action 3?
I have. No luck. The menu on the Action 3 lacks the option for the GPS Remote. Hopefully a software update allows this in the future.
How/Where do you get the GPS remote controller from? I've been waiting for 3 weeks now, and I still couldn't be able to find it in stock anywhere :(
I recommend signing up to be notified on the DJI website. That’s how I got mine.
@@JBOutside1 sweet! Thank you.
Is there a way to get overlays using Final Cut Pro natively?
Unfortunately I'm on Davinci
@@JBOutside1 or Davinci for that matter, seems strange that these programs don’t have this functionality
I wish you did a review of the remote... which is kind of the title of the video.... Anyways.. I'll ask some burning questions here: 1) can you turn the camera ON with the remote? (it has a power button, so I'm really hoping that it does that) 2) can you switch modes on the watch?
Great question. I got caught up in all the other stuff and forgot the basics. Here’s the answers to your questions: 1) no. Kind of a bummer. The GOPRO is remote is way better for controlling all the details and it starts the camera when paired. The DJI GPS remote doesn’t work that way and the power button just powers on the remote only. 2) you can switch between photo and video with the remote only. You can’t change setting like GOPRO. Hope that helps!
@@JBOutside1 thanks for the respone! and wow.... that is actually really a bummer.... I went into the settings of the action 4 and apparently, you can hold the record button on the remote to power off the camera and wake it up again within 30 mins... So I guess that's possible
@@JBOutside1 also found out that you can actually switch between different custom modes with the remote...
@@Canteaus oh! Good stuff. I was heading out of town and just messed around a bit before I left! Now I can’t wait to get back and try that out! Thanks!!
dji4 ..maybe insta ace pro? ..help
I prefer the Ace Pro personally
Is the GPS data automatically recorded onto the video file in the camera? If so I hope to be able to use my desktop software and use the overlays from that program when creating a video. Does the remote require it's own memory card? I'm really hoping I can use the GPS data and record my motocross lap times and add them to my videos.
It’s on the recorded file. No card in the remote.
That's good news, thank you.
Are you here now that GoPro idiotically removed GPS from the 12? Me too!
I also have to believe GoPro has a new remote in the works. But who knows.@@ec-uploads
I've never owned any GoPro. There have always been better cameras out there but they never had good marketing. Contour HD had GPS, Sony X3000 had GPS and Garmin Virb XE had fantastic GPS and software to go with it. I liked the mounting, reliability, and ease of use of the DJI. 5.3K didn't matter to me, 4K or even 2.7K was good enough. I do miss the Garmin GPS though.
can the GPS function be disabled to prolong battery life?
Not to my knowledge.
@@JBOutside1thanks
Did they update the file transfer system🙏
Unfortunately no. Still have to turn off cellular. Not sure why GOPRO and Insta360 can figure this out but DJI can’t
@@JBOutside1 yeah, it should be happening🙏
I just ordered the GoPro 12
Me too…for science 😜
This sucks for me! As I do not have a phone to do all this with my new Action4 I had to borrow a friends phone just to Activate an already Activate Camera. Which, I do not understand whats the point in that at all. I even called them and asked them to send me a link on my PC or flip the switch on their end. Since they had all my information as it is. You buy something, it should just work. Not make you jump through hoops like a monkey!
I hear ya, that’s a challenge for sure
@@JBOutside1 Ya, they tried to make me scan QRs during the CovidPhobics era. My phone will not do that. I even let them try with my phone as they did not believe me. LoL. I still stick with, If you give someone money that is for their product. Than buy said Product. It should just work.
How to take selfie photos using remote?
Very easy. When the remote is linked and the camera is in photo mode you simply press the record button to take the photo
Thanks for the content! have you went out on a hot day? did it overheat and at what quality and fps. Also, how do you feel about horizon balance? I see videos that it's not as smooth and tilting/gliding compared to GPH12
I haven't done a hot weather test. Most of my clips are short duration. I do most things at 4K30 and some at 4K60 for B-roll. I use HB a lot and haven't noticed any issues.
@@JBOutside1 thanks for responding. You actually made a good point there. Short videos, a creator pointed that out with overheating issues on action cams as normal usage won't do videos more than 10mins maybe.
@@japrtorres I’m gonna test it out today. It’s hot enough outside! 😜
@@JBOutside1 much appreciation for that man. 🤣
It's 95 degrees here today. I hot soaked the camera for about 2 hours outside so it started out at 95 degrees. I set it for 4K120 with RS on. It was outside in and out of the shade. The screen reported it was overheated around 15 minutes in. It kept recording thought. I stopped it at 17 minutes...it was still recording. I may do another test tomorrow. @@japrtorres
I have been chasing this remote for actually 2.5 months now....
I suggest signing up for notifications on the DJI site. That’s how I picked it up.
Один пульт может управлять двумя камерами одновременно?
Sorry for the delay. I haven’t had the opportunity to test this in person, but I believe so
@@JBOutside1 я уже нашел на сайте информацию. Можно подключить несколько камер к одному пульту.
Do you have overheat issue when using action 4?
I haven't experienced any overheats yet
Mine won’t stay connected to the camera. Quite useless.
Interesting. Maybe check firmware
Am i gonna order the gps thang only for the dash board? Yeahhh ya i am
👊🏻
I was thinking about the remote for the GPS data but the whole process of using an app on a phone is really convoluted, so while it would be nice I think I'll pass. Why not just have a desktop app. I made the same mistake with the audio, I have a lark 150 and recorded 2 videos, played them back, no sound, thought WTF worked fine before. Checked everything and finally come to the conclusion I was a dickhead. I had the receiver connection in the headphone port and not the line out.....LOL So yes always check you can see the mic symbol on the camera when using an external mic.
Haha, yeah I agree. Definitely would be better with a desktop app. I’ve downloaded footage and then erased the card and then you can’t go back! Insta360 is a better system for sure.
Show us how to put the door back on. I dare you.😀
Challenge accepted! It can be a little tricky. The key is to make sure the hinge is extended to you can get the clamp part on the body of the camera. With some practice It's now not a problem.
I personally don’t like having gps info on my photos.
Fair enough
You need another backpack.
Probably
Probably
All these youtubers don't say the things that are terrible wrong. For me the biggest problem with my Action 4, is that you can not edite the 4k video in the Mimo app without losing quality. You can only download up to 1080. If you use the GPS or editor in the Mimo app, you can not get 4k video. That is a really bad thing what I hate so much that I actually feel sorry buying this camera.
They say that because they edit on a laptop/computer. I agree that your should be able to get 4K out of the mobile app
@@JBOutside1 That's why I use resolve now but now my GPS module is worthless. I have to choose now between 1080 with km per hour and g force or 4k on my computer with resolve without the GPS options. I hate this so much, I really need 4k and the speedometer
@@spoedkoeriereindhoven040 makes sense. I only sprinkle in a few of those shots so I survive with the 1080.
Just wanted to let you know thanks so much for pointing this out. I had no idea and was planning on recording in 4k for a ski trip but wanted gps, but if this is the case I don't need to bother getting it and just will deal without the gps
@@zennokglad you find out before buying the GPS module. I drive on track with my car and would have love the GPS options but 4k is more important to me as well. Enjoy your skitrip
GPS Remote is not waterproof
Correct.
Oops, i just ordered this, but kind of a deal breaker since rain is not uncommon over here.
Are they also forcing you to use their cloud hard drives to store your information? All cloud is their servers harddrives. Why in the world would anyone want to store their data on someone else's hard drive!?! WiFi it to your own hard drive!
It’s also on your phone but yes.
@@JBOutside1 It not on my phone. My phone does not even work like that. I use PC. I know lots of people that do not have cell phones and loving it. I will never us cloud as that is someone else HardDrives.
Well this remote is f. Useless. No waterproof, can't export in 4k, only available in mino app.
It does have some pretty big limitations
@@JBOutside1 for a price of 80 euros.. it's pretty limited, yes.
It’s DJI not DGI, why is this so hard to pronounce. 🤦🏽♂️
Thanks for watching!
