Its really sad that because Emma is no longer there, nobody is fixing the laphroaig wall. The last bastion of civilization has fallen.
Also: On the black pepper note. The best representation of that I've ever gotten was in a Douglas Laing old Particular laphroaig 15. I still have one bottle of it that I am so afraid to open.

I just recently started watching y'all after a trip to Edinburgh (and the discovery of good single-malt scotch whisky), and this G&M Longmorn was one of the "souvenir" bottles i picked up in Edinburgh. Though I'm admittedly new to scotch, I'm trying to learn quickly and LOVE the Gordon & McPhail (Longmorn) scotch so much I went out and acquired some Longmorn 16 (as I understand it, the Distillers' choice for single malt). Another great, entertaining review. Thank you!

G&M becoming more easily accessible in the states has been incredible to find super interesting bottlings, the Longmorn 13 and 14 year bottlings specifically have kept the distillery in stock at my house as the 16 is getting tough to find in NY.

I have another 2005 G&M Longmorn, but it was for the European market. Mine is 46% ABV and it's much more of a butterscoth bomb. Particularly on the nose. Their "Discovery Series" is, like, whatever, but you can get something truly special from G&M's higher end stuff :)
When you said you got a comedian my first thought was did Bert Kreischer show up? He's in Austin fairly regularly, you guys should reach out to him and Nick Offerman

I was lucky enough to get a sample of the older and current release of Longmorn 16yr to compare on stream last week. I was astonished as to how much I preferred the older release! You've said they were very different it multiple times and I feel very fortunate that I was able to compare them to each other at long last. Of course now I want to try this one now too...🖖😎🥃
Looking forward to making that same comparison (now that I have picked up Longmorn 16).
Who invented the marshmallow? Take sugar and form a soft box shaped thing.
Before the use of gelatin marshmallows were made with the sap from a plant called marshmallow (a member of the mallow family that typically grows in marshy environments).
This sounds almost fake, but there really is a marshmallow plant, and in antiquity the Greeks and Egyptians boiled the root into a concentrated sweet “throat medicine”. The candy, like many candies and sweets, came from this medicinal use

its not the vault contents that are the problem, it is the sheer number of donated olive oil bottles to review, sitting in boxes or on racks, waiting to be reviewed, and Daniel stated he has calculated it out to around 13 months.... i would approx there are around 330+ bottles waiting... so that would put restarting donations around Jan of 2023... my opinion/estimation of course :)
Daniel is already impartial to Longmorn, he already set up his mind he would like it... my opinion of course.... Hopefully one day I will find one :)

Is it possible for someone to absolutely not have a nose for whisky, or is it something everyone can have if it is trained? This I find also in cooking, for example when I need to check the taste of something I usually have to ask my wife to come in and let me know that if it's missing something. So could this be something I'm missing out when it comes to exploring whisky, and then is it just that I'm enjoying the "thought" of drinking whisky since I can't really find the notes?
Has any one thought of calling it the "Ball of Magnificence"?

Daniel can smell how old it is
I had this exact same G&M Longmorn and it was utterly disappointing. First of all it is not an "independent bottling of Longmorn", that is to say a barrel (or barrels) that G&M purchased from Longmorn then bottled themselves. What is clearly stated on the back of the label is that this is simply Longmorn new-make that G&M aged in their own barrels, in their own warehouses, and then blended and bottled themselves. I side by side'd this with actual Longmorn 16 and it was so wildly different it was insulting. Daniel, I'm disappointed in you.
I mean that’s what independent bottling is…. I guess it is less common to start with a new make but if you thought an indi bottling was the same product with a different label then you are very much mistaken. I have not tasted either of these and you could be spot on about the quality/taste but the fuss about aging blending and bottling seems misplaced, especially since it says on the label they started with new make
@@kensweetser I'm not upset with G&M, they clearly state it on the bottle, I'm just disappointed in Daniel b/c he left out important information in this video.
