from what I researched, Yes Moutain Dew can ferment if you increase it's acidity PH by like 1 the preservative used to keep it from fermenting no longer works at least that is what works for Mead
Here's an idea for a larger scale fermentation. Buy a box of Mountain Dew syrup. A five gallon bag produces roughly 30 gallons of soda. I'm also curious to know what barrel aged version of this would taste like. I work as a Distiller, I wonder if my boss would let me try this?
Nicely done boys!! Back in the 90s, we mixed Mtn Dew & Vodka and for some reason named it the Green Jesus. Not only was it a fun drink to bring along when skating, it doubled as 'better than water' to use in our bongs. 🤘🤣
Mountain Dew - based on origins...the fresh dew in the morning on a mountainside...vigor, refreshing. The dew itself is condensed drops of water... Moonshine...condensed alcohol... If we have condensed both into one then all thats left is "The Shining"
Since you have created a moonshine derived from Mountain Dew, a beverage with a name that literally means moonshine. And since it did also originate from Appalachian states, you could pay homage to the birthplace of American moonshine and call it, Appalachian Rain... But if you're going to stick with Double Duty, you definitely need to spell it as, Double Dew-Tea. 😊 And if you dew end up bottling it and decide to that name, I'll gladly take any royalties that you might be willing to throw my way!🫡
I loved your attempt. I'm sure it was an interesting taste. If no one has mentioned this yet. Mt Dew makes a Hard MtDew which I love drinking. It comes in several flavors and its 5%ABV. They also make a Hard Monster which is good.

If you are slurring, MountDew sounds like Mundu I just didn't like the name DewShine, so I wanted to come up with a better name. Speaking as a man who loves Mountain Dew, I've never thought it mixed or modified well. "Dew-drivers" with vodka and MD are thin, boozy and dreadful compared to a Jack & Coke, for example. The artificial orange/lemon flavor isn't really complex enough to assert itself in a mix, and also MD is famously low in carbonation (part of why I love it). It has an absolutely UNIQUE flavor profile as they go (witness the abomination that is Great Value Mountain Thunder) but that's really more of a market choice - way more people like Sprite & 7up (which is 50/50 lemon lime instead of 75/25 orange lemon, and is also very fizzy, which I hate, but makes for a better cocktail).
have you ever tried md & tequila? a nice quervo gold ? difference being, mix a tiny dish of salt & a tinier bit of sugar, rather than coating the lip of the glass, just have a dab in a shot glass, sip from the bev, lick your finger tip & tap the salt /sweet mix & lick your finger again, rolling the tastes together! so noice!
This video reminds me of that Asian guy on TikTok that travels back in time and tells people it's an ancient remedy to a disease and it's just Mountain Dew
Interesting! I've fermented many store-bought drinks, and also coffee (into a wine). Turned out quite bitter, but it was really nice after cold-distilling. A bit like a cream liquor like Bailey's. I wonder if that would be a thing for you to try?
I get that the distilling is collecting a fraction of the liquid, but I'm curious: Is cold crashing not helpful at all? In wine making you want to get as much yeast out as possible. The flavor gets better over time...a huge improvement in a week or two. In distilling, does cold crashing not help with the flavor?
As someone who drinks nothing but Mountain Dew (even when working in a hot factory....I drink like a 6 pack of bottles just at work).....I absolutely love this idea. Mountain Dew is the Nectar of the Gods and is so amazing you can literally live of off it (not to mention that it's the most delicious thing ever).
Mountain Dew back in the 90s would start tasting like beer if left in the can for 4 months past the pull date. I got 6 free case coupons because this happened before I bought it. It also used to be made with pure cane sugar back then. They claimed the orange juice would ferment in the cans.
The moment i saw the title of this video I was concerned that the caffeine would be concentrated in the final product. When you started talking about the heart still having a clove/star anise flavor... feeling hot, I was sure that was occurring. I realized that the publishing of the video indicated you hadn't burst your heart due to an overdose of caffeine. When you started discussing caffeine & how you knew it was left in the dregs, I decided I would willingly trust any brew bottled by you. Double Dewty is a great name for the cocktail made from the distilled & raw Dew. I would name the distillate DewDrop Candy Mountain, for the whisky springs. Alternately, Nuclear Dew.
Hello. I want to share that a better way to reduce acidity is to use an ammonia solution when trying to ferment pepsi, fanta and the like. It will also serve as additional good food for the yeast to accelerate the fermentation process.
This is the first distilling video I've ever watched. Seems like a somewhat more complex process than I thought it would be, but everything made sense.
Weird question, is there a name for a generic fermented liquid? I make mead at home and have recently started doing juices with other random sugars other than honey . Is that a wine or something else?
Beautiful toy still. From the title, I thought you were just trying to concentrate back to the syrup. You could do that by chilling to almost freezing. When you pop the top, the water ices up & concentrate can be poured off, leaving the water ice in the bottle.
A better way to remove that carbonation from your soda would be to warm it up. Soda is generally served cold with ice because it keeps the carbonation in the drink longer that way. Heat and stir would probably be faster.

It has an absolutely UNIQUE flavor profile as they go (witness the abomination that is Great Value Mountain Thunder) but that's really more of a market choice - way more people like Sprite & 7up (which is 50/50 lemon lime instead of 75/25 orange lemon, and is also very fizzy, which I hate, but makes for a better cocktail).
have you ever tried md & tequila? a nice quervo gold ?
difference being, mix a tiny dish of salt & a tinier bit of sugar, rather than coating the lip of the glass, just have a dab in a shot glass, sip from the bev, lick your finger tip & tap the salt /sweet mix & lick your finger again, rolling the tastes together! so noice!
@@l.scales7516 I am open to the idea. The addition of salt might be what it needs.
03:58 I've never seen such an epic shot of somebody pouring mountain dew.
It definitely tasted like diabetes.
So bad for you! Lol
In the US getting that much Mountain Dew would’ve been a trip to Sam’s Club or Costco. Most commonly known as Tuesday.
Pretty cool this guy plays disc golf! I see the shelf in the background 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
This video reminds me of that Asian guy on TikTok that travels back in time and tells people it's an ancient remedy to a disease and it's just Mountain Dew
Bro I love your collection of discs in the corner. How often do you get to play.
Double Dewdy is a hell of a name.
Was this done in AUS because Mountain Dew contains brominated vegetable oil in the US and Bromine is used as a flame retardant?
Interesting! I've fermented many store-bought drinks, and also coffee (into a wine). Turned out quite bitter, but it was really nice after cold-distilling. A bit like a cream liquor like Bailey's. I wonder if that would be a thing for you to try?
You can thank Knoxville, Tennessee for that amazing creation of Mountain Dew.
It used to be made with orange juice.
I get that the distilling is collecting a fraction of the liquid, but I'm curious:
Is cold crashing not helpful at all? In wine making you want to get as much yeast out as possible. The flavor gets better over time...a huge improvement in a week or two.
In distilling, does cold crashing not help with the flavor?
The Dewski!? No frigging way!!! My favorite soda turnt into an adult beverage!?!? Count me in! 😊
As someone who drinks nothing but Mountain Dew (even when working in a hot factory....I drink like a 6 pack of bottles just at work).....I absolutely love this idea. Mountain Dew is the Nectar of the Gods and is so amazing you can literally live of off it (not to mention that it's the most delicious thing ever).
hat is the steel you was using. can you tell me where to get one please
Would love to have a bottle of the new dew ! Sounds ds amazing !!
Brewing up the ‘Rare Auld Mountain Dew’!😂
This is the first distilling video I've ever watched. Seems like a somewhat more complex process than I thought it would be, but everything made sense.
0:26 Do they use plastic shopping bags in New Zealand?
oh! and super love the copper air locks.
Well worth the watch. Thanks, gents!
Heat and stir would probably be faster.
kinda wild that mountain dew started in life as a mixer for drinks and now it IS the drink
