  • Howdy guys and gals. I spent 7 days over on Isle Royale, exploring everywhere I could on a 16-foot fishing boat. 3 of the 7 days were a weather mess (wind gusts, torrential rain and fog) but I still managed to find some special spots to share with you.
Wavey fans might notice she's not in this series--no dogs allowed on Isle Royale unfortunately (even UA-cam stars). She does make some strange appearances later in the series...stay tuned ;)

Great video, beautiful videography especially the opening scenes. This is 9ne 9f your best episodes in my opinion . I too am addicted to technology but, as a handicapped person it allows me to experience life through others who take the time and sacrifice some of their private lives, for others to see and enjoy. I thank God for you and others who do the same things. Thank you also for keeping it family friendly while keeping ot genuine. Miss seeing Wavey but I understand.

From 94-96 I traveled and lived on the road and water all over the PNW, BC, Yukon, and Alaska. This part of my life culminated with a 42-day solo beach camp on a lonely outer ocean facing island in SE Alaska. I got so crazy lonely that I finally left and made it to Juneau. Your videos have that melancholy feel I’ve known well; Thank you for making them! I love the Stobe the Hoboesque piano bumpers. I’ve heard you lament about views, and I wish that wasn’t an issue for you because I know that changes some UA-camrs often for the worst. Hopefully, regular viewers hit the “super thanks” periodically. Your channel is authentic, so just keep rolling my friend!

Thank you for this comment. Loneliness; yes I feel it...but not as much as I use to. Maybe its age, maybe its having folks here to share with. Not having my dog on this one showed me how much I rely on her. There's that saying "anyone who can live alone is either a God or monster" and I understand that saying. I'm more a monster and too much time alone gets bad. I hope you stick around and continue to give your thoughts here. I'm usually happy with 1k views a video. Was happening easy for a while...not sure what happened. Maybe people are busy living their lives instead of watching screens....that I'd be happy with ,)

When I see abandoned places like the fish camp my first thought is always I wonder what happened? Sometimes the story is cooler that the place itself. I dig how ya got the boat rigged out too! Again, thanks for all the inspiration man. Be safe!

Hey man, yeah...and it's hard not to go inside! But...I'm sure they have some kind of cameras around, even there. There are camps all over IR from before it was designated a national park. I'll be showing more in this series. Some are real surprises in very out of the way places.

I could be wrong, it happened once, (Lol) but I believe that particular spot was once owned by Richard Eckel. A commercial fisherman that grew up on Isle Royale. I have camped/had lunch there also. The Park Service tried to roust us off but we had permission from Dick Eckel so they backed off. Also, if you go into Windigo, look to your right and you will see Barnum island. My dear friend has a lifetime lease to a cabin on that island. Many fond memories I have from Isle Royale. Truly a spectacular setting.

We have a reef out of Racine Wisconsin where I boat out of for now… it comes up to about 6 feet of water, but there’s a lighthouse 5 miles out to Mark where the reef starts… but what I’m trying to get to is we snorkel on those reefs and it’s crazy how fast they drop off and then there’s all the zebra muscle shells down below that have collected it’s just gorgeous and then there’s big fish that are on the reef too

The best book about IR is "Isle Royale, a Photographic History by Thomas & Kendra Gale." I bought mine at the Ranger station in Windigo in 2000. It tells all about the history and has many cool vintage photos. I've been to IR 4 times. Twice I came from Mn, 22 miles, and circumnavigated IR. I would suggest you get a Personal-Locator-Beacon. Mine is an ACR ResQlink, for less than $300. If you get into trouble your hand held marine radio does not have much range. Great video, I subscribed.
