You mentioned something about pros and cons in a shanty boat, but to be honest ever since you started on your journey, I haven't seen a single downside to doing the loop in a shanty boat like yours. Actually it seems to be ideal. There's a lot advantages to be said about shallow draft vessels😉
The area that you saw that you referred to as an atoll: this is an area that we build a berm around in order to pump dredging spoils into the center. Where are the sediment settles. The channel has to be dredged periodically. Eventually you'll have a man-made Island there and you just continue the process up to a certain height. As it builds up a new berm is placed around it and it just continues to get higher and higher.
Brenton, if you upgrade your radio to include AIS, the radio will display info on those large commercial ships. Name, size, type, direction ,ship speed and immediate collision info if applicable. Back when I sailed off shore. I'm now planning to stick to intercoastal & near coastal waters on my smaller sailboat.⛵

Brenton, in our condo complex in Key Largo, we have our own marina with about 186 slips available to the residents, the canal coming into the complex from the Atlantic is quite wide and about 25 feet deep, well about 2 years ago a pod of dolphins showed up and never left. They leave to go feed and then come back. You can actually get in the water with them and pet them. Lots of residents feed them mullet on a daily basis, mullet is their main source of food. On a daily basis they put on this aerial acrobatic show that is so cool to watch and they come up to the docks to be petted and they start talking, it's really a unique situation.... As long as the dolphins are there you will never see a shark close by....

Brenton seems to be more chill-laxed and an introvert. I wouldn’t take any of his Looper decline invites to 🩵. He seems hyper-focus on Shanty boat logistics (weather patterns, tides and route).
I want to build a shanty like you got. Where do I get the barge and how do you attach the house to it without it leaking around the base. Oh yea and how long is your boat. I think I want something just a tad bigger from the way the interior looks. Been following you for a while now
I've been enjoying the trip with you since you started last fall. You mentioned your earlier trip and I've noticed it was on a pontoon based shanty boat versus the barge based shanty boat your using now. Would you please comment about the pros and cons of each style of shanty boat from your perspective. Does one get better fuel "mileage"? Is one more stable? I've read that pontoon based boats can be tippy if heavy (because of a higher center of gravity??). Would appreciate your thoughts.
Howdy. Thanks for sticking with us. The Shanty beagle was a 26 foot catamaran cruiser with deep fiberglass hulls (not toons) which made it more stable than a pontoon boat. The barge is definitely more stable and planted into the water. We've been finding its limits on this adventure, but so far we've had no troubles. If you could find a barge hull, that would be best.
The building you were explore across from the Wharf in Orange Beach was a development for an aquarium. This was to have a large dolphin attraction. Orange Beach voted to outlaw having dolphin exhibits. Once this happened the investors pulled out and the property was never finished. It has say vacant for approximately 10 years. The Wharf has since bought the property and is developing it into condos.
You chose a good time to cross! Side note -- I can't speak for everyone but I'm really tired of having to hear the owner of Lulu's is Jimmy Buffets sister. It's mentioned every time the restaurant comes up. Nobody talks about the food, or how nice it is. If you're from this area, you've heard that 100k times. To be asked about that for 30 years must have been tough, and now it's condolences from everyone. Better advertising than being Casey Anthony's sister, or OJ Simpson's, so I guess it all worked out.
That makes sense ;) I guess I'd know that if I was from that part of the world;) I'm sure it helped her throughout life. I doubt she ever needed a loan;)
I was curious about your solar and what all are you running. How many watts and batteries. I saw another video about shanty/camper/houseboat building and the person poo-pood the whole idea of using solar. Said it wouldn't work and don't waste your money. It seems to be working for you and many others in the youtube world. I think it'll, I am just inquiring about sizing. Thanks pard, Marty.
Oh yes, solar absolutely works. It's made for boats and campers. We run 800 watts. We use lead acid batteries. Upgrading to lithium eventually. We made a solar video in the beagle barge beagle build series with a list of components in description

Brenton seems to be more chill-laxed and an introvert. I wouldn’t take any of his Looper decline invites to 🩵. He seems hyper-focus on Shanty boat logistics (weather patterns, tides and route).
Rare days like this is time to boot scoot .
If you come back to Pensacola FL we have to come over. I have a shanty boat to.
Cool! Email me a picture? bnetz95959@yahoo.com
Hahahaha that boat at the end with the trip 400’s is my dads 😂
Really?! I bet that thing flys!
You are not quite to Florida yet when you hit the wharf . Go to peg-legs when you hit Pensacola . . Eat oyster rockerfella . The best I have ever had
Thank you. Yeah, I was jumping the gun there for a minute;)
The Island in Mobile Bay is called Gillard IS. It is mam made and is a wildlife sanctuary, mostly Pelicans roost there ands raise their young.
Good crossings come to those that wait hey? 😊
A little planning goes a long way apparently ;)
I want to build a shanty like you got. Where do I get the barge and how do you attach the house to it without it leaking around the base. Oh yea and how long is your boat. I think I want something just a tad bigger from the way the interior looks. Been following you for a while now
Can you email me please? bnetz95959@yahoo.com
Remaining vacant those 10 years, most definitely increased tax payers property rates.
should have stopped in Fairhope its an awesome little town
I'd like to see that place. I found some good beer from there
Good morning Guys from MI. Here's a comment to keep the algorithm moving along. Hope all is well and your Yamaha.
The workhorse hasn't skipped a beat. Amazing motor ;)
👍
Great day for an open water crossing
Does the Iceco put of heat ?
Not that I can tell. It's not loud either.
😎
Don't forget to give this video a like!
That helps! I never ask ;)
Im not sure if this is correct or not. But my tranlation app says that means "tackle joy". Which would kind of make sense.
Cool man!! I wish I was a new subscriber…just my luck man…cool man!
You only need 90 HP ;) lol
@@backwatersandbackroads you are funny man…
I just found your videos and have really enjoyed them. Quite an adventure, I envy you and your dog. Smooth motoring!!
Thank you for finding us Phil. Welcome. Please stick around, lots more to come...
I am really suprized that you dont explain the size of that ship is , the anchor is as big as the vessal your on! Just the anchor!
OJ Simpson died today at the age of 76, cancer took his life.....
@@scable-eq7bp I saw that
Barely walking but have to say HOWDYYY! AND get treats!!!!! 💖
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤟🏼🤙🏼🖖🏼
Curious if you and Wavey stumble upon any gators down there in Florida?
Very few. Along the Okeechobee. That's all we've seen! Surprising
@@backwatersandbackroadsI thought that would be viable for this application. I'll have to look up your old video. Thanks again.
@@backwatersandbackroads Great to know! I thought you had made a video that included the solar system but couldn't remember.
🤠👍👍
Maybe that large building was used as boat storage....
That's what I thought too
Did you stop Cumberland Island?
Yeap yeap ;) got some footage. Dungeness Ruins, and the lighthouse.
Florida. Land of the nearly wed and nearly dead.
Give a call when you’re in TB area
Love your videos but man, you are not giving the Alabama back bays enough credit. You keep saying you're in Florida. You're still over 10 boat miles to Florida. Show us some love! Pirates Cove and that whole area are still in Alabama! "Florida Adventures." PFFT!
I jumped the gun. We did go to pirate's Cove. Coming up...;)
Hurricanes may have wrecked that building.
You have been tagged on Facebook
I love that you share your adventure with us. Thank you! I do have a question... What is it you do for a shower/bathroom/toilet?
Thanks for being here. I jump in the water to stay clean, and we use a composting toilet
That island is where the dump what the drege out of the channel
Thank you. A "spoil island" I've learned
Comment
You aren't in Florida. The Wharf is in Alabama.
I know now. I didn't know that then ;) Thank you
Hi
Hi Logan:)
Great video and i know you would like a channel i just found.... My Lunch Break
Hi Mary. I'll go take a look now....thank you ;)
sometimes I like a word you use....for instance...in this episode...tenets....
Hey bro. So if all 10k subscribers send Wavy a snack contribution.....uh that's a lot of money. You probably filthy rich. Lol
That would be something, but will never happen. Far from rich, but YT is subsidizing the looper expenses a bit which is very helpful
Safe travels my friend. By the way made it to Savannah yet?
@@scottanderson1761 we just passed through it;)
@@backwatersandbackroads yall gonna be home before you know it. Maby the rest of the trip will be a breeze. A lot of pirate activities in the south Carolina intercoastal!...... well got to have some drama.
