Unless you are a professional musician who relies on that one tone for your livelihood, no pedal is worth $5k to me. But there is a reason it has it’s reputation, as it does sound truly amazing. But there are so many other pedals that sound amazing in slightly different ways for far less. I’m happy to get 95% of the way there for 95% less money :)
I don't really get that sentiment. If its amazing and it excites your ears and your imagination: just buy it. 1k, 5k, 10k w/e. If I was as impressed as Paul claimed to be here I would have just bought it. End of. Guys like that probably have 20k of crap lying around they never use. I could easily justify selling off some of the junk in my studio to finance such a purchase. They aren't made anymore, only 8000 or so were ever made, they do not all sound "mind blowing".. Its not going to depreciate. No brainer.
There are soooo many klon clones out there it's mind boggling. Some of them are exact replicas. There is no need to pay that much for a pedal with less than $20 worth of parts in it. When you can buy one that does the same thing in a smaller package for a little over a hundred bucks.
To be fair, the top performwrs in the world are merely fractions of a second in differences. I argue that many of us are paying for the small fractions of differences more so than the similarities
I'm curious how the Warm Audio Centravo or the Stewmac Ghost drive stacks up against the original. They both claim to have accuratly recreated the Klon.

bought mine in NYC years ago for 1200$ the gain knob is awesome and i dint get why everyone decided it was only good for low gain and boosting🤷♂️obviously-based on your demo-it kicks ass when u crank it.

It’s ridiculous the hype surrounding the KLON. There’s no magic. There’s plenty of things that sound as good. Finnegan applied the same sales techniques as a certain famous amp builder did. I’ve had 3 of them, sold them all. There are a few neat things going on circuit wise, but other than that …..it’s not magic. It really is just a modified TS. If you by the Rockett Archer you’re getting the same thing. They cloned it verbatim with BF’s approval. It’s like the “D” amp thing all over. These things have been figured out and improved upon.

so many questions, like how many gigs do you have to play to get a 5K pedal to pay for itself? Another question is how can a 5w amp be loud enough to compete with a full band? Even in my worship team setting I use their Boss Katana 100w Mk 2 on the 50w setting instead of the 6w (I think it is) to stay in the mix. Those are just a couple that come to mind. Nice video. : )
A 5 watt valve amp is very different to the 6 watt setting on a katana. 5 watt valve amps can keep up in a band situation just don’t expect it to be clean.
I have seen the original demoed side by side with the Ceriatone copy and I could hear no difference. If you were using it playing live it would probably be hard to tell a difference between this and a $35.00 copy from Wish
I passed on one about 10 years ago . Guitar Center had it for $1k . I did however buy a Klon KTR used for $380 . I tried to get it for $300 but the chap wouldn't budge . When I got the pedal I noticed it was great . The KTR's sound great and if I was wanting that pure Klon drive , go buy a KTR . I think they are still below $700 on reverb . They have been wrongfully labeled as the cheap " factory" repros .
Sounds great. Eddie Van Halen described himself as a “tone-chaser” and he spent countless hours innovating and experimenting trying to achieve the sound in his head. I think the guitar tone on Mean Street sounds just as good as the tone on A Different Kind of Truth. Different, but awesome. I’m also not about to tell Eddie that he wasted time or money. All that to say this-if that pedal is the closest you can come to the ideal in your head, and you can afford it-more power to you.

I've had a couple of Klons in the past, never liked giving up all the pedalboad real-estate they took up so I started looking at clones and low and behold I found that I like the J.Rockett Archer even better. But like I always say, "Tone is like chili, flavor to your liken"

Klon KTR can do it all for a lot less. Wouldn't be without mine, but I use it as an always on clean boost just to fatten everything up and give a tiny bit of natural sounding compression

Go on.... buy one. The beauty is that you'll have one of the best sounding pedal out there, and years later if you need the cash you can sell it at a profit. I bought one two years ago for £2,000 and it is now worth (in theory) £4,000 upwards (actually more like £4500 as I have the original box). And I've had two years of sonic bliss. Result!
Nope and I’ll never pay for one so I researched and bought the decibelics golden horse for roughly the same price as a og klon in 94 thing sounds INCREDIBLE my klon searched has ended.
I would submit that no pedal is worth $5000 or even close. Does the Klon sound great? Sure it does. Could Paul get a great tone out of $200-$300 pedal? I'm betting he could. In a full band context, could anyone tell the difference (or would they care)? Probably not.

Ceriatone centura, and it's built better because the pots are wired to the board, not directly mounted,anyone with half a knowledge of electronics would know this.
I say no it’s not worth it… when there’s so many good replications of a Klon out there, I would rather save 4800 and buy a Wampler Tumnus deluxe and use the rest of the money for a sweet telecaster.

It's a great pedal, but 5k... It's like it's written on the later versions, that the price gouging hype was not of the pedal creator's doing. One thing that would put me off is the size of it. It has a big enclosure. Just... Why? Oh, also, the price is a little bit off-putting. 😂 Anyway, another fun video!

These pedals were $800-1400 around 2016 and well worth trying if you were a boutique enthusiast. At their current price point they are for gimmicky rich folks lol cause the rest of us know to throw an xotic sp ($150) in front volume all the way up. That will get you 90% of the way there 😛 and you’ll never think about the moon again.

That thing did nothing my original Pro-Co RAT can't do and my RAT sounds more fuzzy or less if I want it too. As far as sustain, not even close, I could pluck an open string, go out and have a smoke, then a cig. and come in, it will still be going. No thanks.

Do yourself a favour buy a ceriatone centura, same pedal same components. And if you don't know anything about basic electronics watch Joe at Gray Bench Electronics demystify this pedal and the so called mystical diodes. If not continue with being a slave to the hype. Ps. When anything goes wrong with your gooped klon good luck, there is one on ebay which failed to sell because the charge pump isn't working. Basically a dead gooped over hyped pedal.
So in had the chance to play the original Klon and we compared it to my chinese copy. And we found that there is no difference that would justify the originals 4.000€ price. The circuit is virtualy identical in the chinese one with the diference that it costs 40€. Finnegan artificialy hyped the price with some fairytale stories how the Klon has some sort of magic germanium stuff. Thats why he covered the circuitboard with that black goo, because its easily replicated and has cheap components that chinese pedal makers can copy without a problem. What was especialy insulting is the way he wrote on new pedals how the hype was not his own making because it absolutely was. So no, in my honest opinion the pedal is not worth nowhere near that much. If someone is happy with it, good. But the money could have been spent much more wisely. Great video tho.
Sorry I don’t get it at all. No doubt it sounds great but so do a lot of pedals at less than 10% the price. $5k for a pedal is an absolute joke. I’d rather spend $5k on lessons from someone like Alex Hutchings - and stick to a reasonably priced drive pedal. Or if I’m brutally honest I’d save the $5k so that I can afford to boil my kettle.
There are so many guitarists out there that sound great or even better than this pedal. I don't understand why a pedal would cost more than double compared to a 100 watt tube amplifier. It is undeniable the pedal sounds great but it is not worth $5000. Many American made stuff are so overrated. Practicing 8 hours a day is the secret to making any OD pedal sound great.
When something special like that show up. forget its a pedal. its that special part of the mix. sell and amp or a guitar or 2. get the damn thing and be done.

Built a klon clone. And sounds ridiculous! Really important to select the right components.

These are just circuits and with the correct component values, the effect is the same. Hype has always driven the music industry and always will.
I just use the free VST-3 version of it. And from what i can tell after listening to this video they sounds very similar.

if guitar is your life it's not too much if you're making this a core part of your tone.
So in had the chance to play the original Klon and we compared it to my chinese copy.
And we found that there is no difference that would justify the originals 4.000€ price.
The circuit is virtualy identical in the chinese one with the diference that it costs 40€.
Finnegan artificialy hyped the price with some fairytale stories how the Klon has some sort of magic germanium stuff. Thats why he covered the circuitboard with that black goo, because its easily replicated and has cheap components that chinese pedal makers can copy without a problem.
What was especialy insulting is the way he wrote on new pedals how the hype was not his own making because it absolutely was.
So no, in my honest opinion the pedal is not worth nowhere near that much. If someone is happy with it, good. But the money could have been spent much more wisely.

Klon actually sounds good here. half (or more then half) of the videos on the tube sounds like complete trash. well done here

Sorry I don’t get it at all. No doubt it sounds great but so do a lot of pedals at less than 10% the price. $5k for a pedal is an absolute joke. I’d rather spend $5k on lessons from someone like Alex Hutchings - and stick to a reasonably priced drive pedal. Or if I’m brutally honest I’d save the $5k so that I can afford to boil my kettle.
There are so many guitarists out there that sound great or even better than this pedal. I don't understand why a pedal would cost more than double compared to a 100 watt tube amplifier. It is undeniable the pedal sounds great but it is not worth $5000. Many American made stuff are so overrated. Practicing 8 hours a day is the secret to making any OD pedal sound great.
