The guy on keys plays like I play in my dreams, as does the bass player, as does the drummer and Rory... well sweet mother of pearl...it just can't get any better than this.
+mark cook Yeah, Gerry was my favourite bass player of all time as a youth. He was my main inspiration.. I played in a blues rock band that did mostly Rory songs.. I learned so much from Gerry, mainly to improvise my playing, never playing the same bassline for a song twice, just like Gerry. You get a lot more feeling into the songs when you improvise. I learned so many little bass runs and timing techniques from him as well . Rory was a guitar God, undoubtedly, but Gerry MacAvoy is the God of the bass guitar! Respect always from Davey Hughes, Longford, Ireland :)
Not saying that Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton are not good guitarists, but Rory Gallagher is equal to them. At least from my point of view. I don't know why he doesn't get much attention like them.
Rory's probably a better guitarist than Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, but Hendrix was more original in my opinion. Jeff Beck is another of the greatest in the guitarist category. But Jimmy Page's strength isn't in his guitar playing necessarily, he was a great songwriter.
@@elliottstone9692 I agree with everything you said. Just to weigh in, I think Rory was a better live performer than all of the above. Yes Jimi could play great live but his records are more composed than his live performances (obviously) While Rory's live perform are mostly always better than his studio recordings. Two sides to the same coin.
Because rory was sub zero cool...he wanted to play and give the fans a great time then go to the pub!!! Love jimi not a fan of Clapton n page ( i like what i like)
Brilliant performer! 👏👏👏 Rory never received his proper due here in the states, but he us a well-deserved legend in Europe. Only discovered him a few years ago and can't get enough. The live version of Shadow Play (available on UA-cam) has become one of my favorite songs. Do yourself as favor... If you are unfamiliar with Rory Gallagher, check him out. It will change your musical life. RIP RORY 🙏🙏🙏
I've never seen one live Rory performance that was less than stellar. Deep purple and Rush are up there, but Rory was the greatest live act ever in my opinion
Great to see people of all ages still discovering this amazing talented man. Keep researching and you will only miss him more. Note the guitar plugged straight into his amp. No pedals or switches. Though he did use them later.
You can see Rory's treble boost, a Dallas Rangemaster, the grey box sitting atop his amp at 0:44. It had quite a history during the 60's & 70's. His regular use of that effect dates back at least to his time in Taste. He did say in an interview that he was pleased when people would say he sounded like it was just his guitar straight into an amp because that meant to him that he was using effects correctly for his sound.
And that's why Rory Gallagher is one of the best musicians of my lifetime and without doubt one of GREATEST GUITARIST TO EVER LIVE!! No problem ranking in the TOP 5 ALL TIME!!
1975 I was a senior in high school..strains my brain. If I would have known about rory then i,m sure I would have dropped out of school to follow him around. ❣💋🎸
Not once have I ever seen Rory and Gerry or Lou sing together or harmonize, they just never did any extra emphasis on vocals, but when you have Rory and a band this great, who cares? Excellent!

How the hell did I miss Rory Gallagher.. what the hell was I thinking

Amen!
i realize I am pretty randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to stream newly released movies online?
I saw him live two times in 1980 and 1981 in Orléans... he was a lion on stage... what a loss for music, really...
Best guitarist ever!
This song and "Million Miles Away" - dreamy. Nice post.
As cliche as it is Hendrix is the greatest ever but Rory is definitely up there
+Angelika T. Hendrix said when asked what it was like to be the worlds greatest guitar player "ask Rory Gallagher".

Not saying that Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton are not good guitarists, but Rory Gallagher is equal to them. At least from my point of view. I don't know why he doesn't get much attention like them.
Never got a lot of airplay in the US that I know of. That's part of it but I hear his legacy is growing by day now--as it should be!
