Nice upload mate. As a fellow adult improver (been playing seriously for 6 years now) here are some things I did that got me to 2250 Rapid (Lichess). 1. I play only 15+10 now, the quality of chess and depth of thinking is so much better. 2. I created my own excel opening file, basically i put the variations in cells and add comments why the moves are played and plans. After each game I check against my file and see where I went wrong or add variations/go deeper into mainlines if I see something new. I also play a wide variety of very critical/sharp openings and avoid any systems like the London or hypermodern stuff. The Dutch is a good choice, ignore the haters! 3. I study around 1-2 hours a day. 50% tactics, 25% positional/strategy, 25% endgames. I use chessable just for the convenience (it means I can study on my commute haha!). Not saying you should do all this but just giving you a flavor of what it takes to get there! Hope this helps and good luck on your journey!
@@okibelieveyou7553 essentially what you're telling me is that it takes serious work! Haha, got it! I wish I had 2 hours a day to put in to chess, but I guess I don't currently. I'm going to start a better training regiment soon though!
I’m currently putting 2+ hours a day into chess went from 1350 to 1620 in 3 months. What are courses on Chessable that you recommend? I feel like I’m spending too much time on learning opening repertoire
@BoxingCoachRobin if you're spending 2 hours a day i think 30mins on openings is more than enough! Tactics: Common chess patterns The Checkmate Patterns Manual Mastering Mates: Mate in 2, 3 and 4 Strategy/Positional: Chess Principles Reloaded - Development Chess Principles Reloaded - Centre Chess Principles Reloaded - King Safety Endgames: Basic Endgames Silmans Complete Endgame Course Essential endings: Mating with B+N 100 Endgames you must know The Queen vs Rook Endgame There's plenty more great ones (I have around 60) but these are definitely a good start!
Did you see the Ginger GM’s recent video where he plays the Richard Rapport Dutch when white plays mainline with a fianchettoed kingside? Involves pushing the h pawn to attack the g3 hook.
Hey Owen, been following you avidly and as I've said before it's very much a snakes and ladders situation. You will get there! Don't fret about it. Relax with the chess lizard! 😁
It's crazy that the position at 17:27 is completely losing. I NEVER would have seen that as perfectly safe as white, but I guess the rook and king can scoot over and there are no more checks because of the white bishop. Crazy.
its all part of the game! I have had 2 major setbacks on my journey where i lost around 200 points in both occassions within days.....I need to learn to quit playing for a while when i dont play well rather then pushing and trying to get points back. it just doesnt work for me. in december I was on my all time peak of 1154 and dropped to 934. Stopped playing 4 a while and now am back to okay chess and back to 1044 and hopefull climbing again to a new hight, wish you all the best on your journey. Maybe take some time off?!?!
I think it's hard to take time off when you do daily videos for over a year haha, maybe I can do a bunch at once and then take a week break or something in the future: P
The Dutch is totally fine, and you are comfortable with it and understand it. What if you could play it with a move in hand? Ah, that would be Bird's Opening, an underappreciated and misunderstood way to start a game, but my favorite. Just something to think about.
@GeorgeSmyth I've considered the birds, but I'm def enjoying the Jobava at the moment, I think I may need to get a course on the birds first haha, it's a very interesting opening for sure
@@Blunder_Man I wrote The Classical Bird for Club Players, which is available free on Chessable, so that can give you a peek into structures with which you are already familiar - with a move in hand. I'm currently learning the Jobava and doing quite well with it, as I'd like to have two White openings ready to go.
I def want to do this kind of video soon... I'm sorry I haven't been able to get it out yet. I will try to be more thoughtful about getting educational content out on a more regular basis soon!
Your videos are very helpful as I am also improving, went from 1000 elo to 1675
@TheodoreEnnos wow!! That's huge success!! Well done!!
@@Blunder_Man So close to 1700 now
@TheodoreEnnos let's gooo
To be honest with you, I was kind of racing against you to get to 2000 elo but I guess you beat me!
I may have won this battle, but you will win the next bigger battle!!!
Noice!!!
Yes sir haha
Banger of a sequence with the rook at the end. Chess is beautiful!
@@manykindsofgeek5906 it is indeed!! Yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed this chaotic game!
