I absolutely agree that you should play longer time controls if you want to improve. Every trainer says the same thing. I would be quite happy to see you play one game (and win) and analyze. I have had exactly the same problem as you, and finding the 'right' time control for your style of chess, the time control in your own personal Goldilocks zone is a matter of intensive trial and error and a lot of thought. Of course there is no 'perfect' time control, but if your own analysis of your games is showing you that you are losing because you are rushing at the end, well, its the obvious conclusion, right? If I were you I would stick with 15/10. You are going to win a lot more games and reach your goal. I'm rooting for you. Watching your games is very useful for my own chess.
Very solid game you played blunder, you're definitely gonna reach your goal with this level of consistency. Also you inspire me to want to play chess everyday
I would recommend watching Ben Finegold's lecture on the greek gift. If you internalise the concepts discussed in that video, you will always know when it is actually appropriate to go for the sacrifice. Speaking from experience, it is generally not useful to try and artificially prepare a greek gift like you were discussing in the first game. You should just try to find and play the best move on the board. Sometimes that is setting up a greek gift, but most of the time it is not, and if you persist with trying to set it up you are likely to miss better moves along the way
@@caracal2802 facts. I really cannot watch finegold. I agree with this though, I think the way I played this game was logical and not seeking something that would never happen
Very nice game! I think the 15 + 10 time control is much better for your improvement and will also be helpful for your OTB. Also I enjoy watching it because you have more time to share your thoughts and I have more time to think what I would play. So maybe just do 1-2 longer games per day and you're gonna be over 2000 again very soon.
The longer time controls should help a lot in the long run. I would even say go to 30 mins for your chess improvement but i know that's probably not the popular sentiment. The more you think the more the mistakes stick and the more you learn from it i think. Good stuff, as always sir.
@@epictetuscasanova I'm glad to hear your thoughts, as I feel I agree with them, but I understand others may be frustrated, but if I can talk through it then I think improvement can happen more so
I would take a look at some of Nelson’s recent videos…he went to longer time controls and appeared to play a lot more cheaters. Personally, I enjoy these shorter games as I can see more positions and how you think through them.
There will always be cheaters. I would recommend considering Robert Ramirez's stance, which is that focusing on it is a distraction to your game, and you can use the game more as a training tool. Alas, I think that cheating is distracting Nelson and tilting him, as he is just not making the best moves he is accustomed to making. At the end of the day it is all about moving wooden pieces on a checkered board. Leave the cheating to those who feel it necessary in their lives and just work on improving your game without distraction.
@GeorgeSmyth honestly the best advice I've heard... It's just frustrating because when you play a fantastic game you should be rewarded the points, I'll try to keep this attitude going forwards
I really lilke the 15 - 10 timecontrol. I still need the time to think especially when things get complicated. And it helps with getting used to otb where I have 75 minutes upto 115 minutes (eventhough I hardly ever need that).
B-Man - Each time this comes up my opinion is the same: go with the slower games. We will still blunder and still scream at the sky due to our mistakes, but the time taken to actually think, instead of just move, will help your calculation skills and visualization. Yesterday I played a perfect game - 95% - and I'm just a typical club player, rated will below you, so these things are possible. Yes, the games will get harder, but in the end that's what we want isn't it - the thrill of the challenge.
I learn more from you mate (did someone say Scotsman... I rather think calling us all "lads" gives the real game away!) than I do from top level players and GMs on UA-cam. Longer time controls lets me understand more of your thoughts and processes, so I would say more of this!
@@moosemanuk okay moose man!! I have a brother in Scotland but I grew up in Northern Ireland!!! Technically I'm not anything, more a mumble jumble of a bunch of different places haha
Hahaha yeah País Vasco (Basque Country) has always considered itself independent from Spain. And they're very proud of their culture. For example in soccer, their team from Bilbao is Athletic Club de Bilbao. They play in La Liga (Spain's national soccer league) but only players born and raised in Basque Country can play in the team. No foreigners nor players from other cities like Madrid or Barcelona. So, someone from Basque Country will always say they're from Basque Country, not Spain.
I like the longer games. You do a superb job of explaining your calculations which has been helpful for my game as well as entertaining.

I am totally with you on the longer time controls. More time to calculate and usually higher quality games.
A different challenge in some ways, but more thoughtful chess overall I think

As long as I can play more thoughtfully than ten minutes flat
