I use the VNM shifter and their v1.5 handbrake and they are miles better. The shifter feels so good and handbrake is loadcell as you know already. The top plates on the VNM from 4 to 7 gears take 1min to change but so rewarding. From my experience it's worth the upgrade as the fanatec as good it is its outclassed since the release of it. It would also look better with all the high-end gear you got. If I would upgrade from my VNM I would go for the Meca SQ and handbrake. If I go from SQ to H pattern on my VNM I usually do the change while my PC boots and get ready it really doesn't take much time at all.
@The SimRacing Den it's more positive and you can adjust it also. Is it 50% better maybe not but I find it much more positive and in SQ mode it feels great. I think if you have the cash do it. I couldn't go back given the choice.
How long does the change take? The fact that you have to nearly completely take it apart is whats stopping me from buying it. I dont want to have to unscrew 5 things every time
@@veeembee the knob came with hardware that worked ok with the shaft of the SHH and the boot cover just needed a zip tie connection to secure it if I remember correctly. The base of the boot material I just let hang and secure w some black duct tape. Hope that helps answer your question. It came together pretty easily. 🙂
If the sequential is sticking on you, al you gotta do is stick in either the up or down position, then loosen the tension nut slowly until the knob pops out on its own. You also forgot to talk about how easy it is to loosen/tighten lol which is another great aspect of this shifter.
Thanks, I’ll give that a shot. Yeah, I forgot to include that part, and I filmed it, too, but somehow missed it in the edit. Happens sometimes. Thanks for the feedback and watching!
I’ve had two of those Fanatec shifters. Both failed for the same reason. One failed twice and the other once. I got an AioLigs SQ shifter to take over the sequential duties of the Fanatec and once I did that the Fanatec shifters stopped failing. I also had a TH8A shifter for a few months. It was decent. Being that 99% of the cars I race are high powered H pattern or floor sequential. I ended up getting a ProSim H Pattern and Jinx sequential for larger SQ cars. I was using the AioLogs SQ for my classic open wheel sequential cars but unfortunately had to down grade from the AioLogs to a HE sequential for space. I know many people love the HE SQ and most reviews have them as equals…..they aren’t. The HE is so dampened it feels like a toy compared to the AioLogs.
I have the Fanatec Clubsport Shifter and I thought I would never use the sequential shifting function as I'm old school and grew up with manual transmissions, but after trying the sequential mode on a couple of games, I really enjoy it, and overall after a couple of years of using my Fanatec gear, I probably wouldn't change it unless I came into a large inheritance and could afford the top of the line gear, Fanatec products are well designed, durable, and affordable, I just wish their steering wheels didn't cost so much, but you really do get what you pay for.
Have you tried SIMAGIC DS-8X? I had Fanatec 1.5 and upgraded to ProSim H pattern + PSL V2. I don't like the PSL v2 because the throw is too long with the extension.
Its a really good shifter when it works, which unfortunately doesn't, the thing always brakes and its a nightmare getting to fix it. I love the shifter but i just hate how unreliable it is. I hope Moza can dethrone the clubsport shifter with a hybrid shifter because the issues are endless with this thing
@simracingden i have one and its considerably older. Current issue is mis shifts 1st will go into reverse and 4th will show as 2nd gear. Its a common issue that sometimes resolves itself with unplugging and replugging. Ive even opened it up disconnected board inside and "resetting unit" which does work but not long term fix ive found so im at a point where moza looks good. I already have their handbrake and love it.
Is the Fanatec better than the Monza HGP? Or is paying more Just for the sequential transmission, is there more adjustability in the fanatec one? I wonder if it’s worth it to spend more
IMO I prefer the Fanatec over the Moza shifter now having tried the VNM, Moza and Fanatec I still prefer the shifting feel and build quality of the Fanatec. Having the sequential mode is nice benefit but the sequential mode isn’t all that good. Having adjustability to tension is nice too which the Moza does not offer.
I just ordered the Moza shifter to replace my old and ugly Thrustmaster. Didn’t received it yet. I already have the Heusinkveld sequential shifter so I don’t really care about that feature. Also, I’ve heard so many bad things about Fanatec in the last couple of years I wanted to stay away from them. Maybe I’m wrong. QC and customer support seems awful. I’ve seen maybe broken shifters on the market. Having to buy another dongle to play on PC kinda sucks too. Again I might be wrong I never bought any Fanatec products. Great video by the way.
@@tapidlittle13, I've owned several Fanatec products and never had one issue, thankfully. Let me know how you like the Moza shifter when you get it, and thanks for watching!
I don’t have Fanatec shifter but I want to buy one, I almost order but then I have find fanatec ps5 plug and play compatible shifter name Oktane designs. On Yt video look much more mechanical then Fanatec shifter … price the same. I will get this end of this year hope this will be better then Fanatec …
@@sxx01 my rig is sitting on a concrete floor downstairs so it's hard to say but I reckon the only way you're hearing it in another room is through the vibration being amplified by the rig and transferred through the floor, but the wheelbase motor would be waaaaaay worse for that I'd imagine.
i love mine, works for GT7, sequantial in one click (though useless for me), looks bulk solid and not failing anytime. i dont need any other shifter. not even VNM
I thought your video was spot on. I have the Fanatec and think it is great. Especially considering its age. It is also my only remaining Fanatec hardware since I have just changed brands. I also have a HE shifter for sequential shifting.
How can you make a video comparing shifters if you've only used one... This is a very misleading video. You're literally going off opinions and that's all. This video shouldn't have been made with out you trying the other shifters. You basically recommended the shifter you own. That's a terrible reason to recommend something and tell people not to buy something else.
Thank you for your feedback. I agree that it would have been ideal to wait until I had experience with other shifters before finalizing my review of the Fanatec shifter. My initial review was primarily based on a direct comparison of specifications and features on paper. However, since creating this video, I have completed a review of the VNM Shifter and am currently preparing to release a review of the Moza shifter, which I have been testing extensively. Looking ahead, I also plan to review the Simagic shifter. Your input is valuable, and I appreciate you sharing it.

Using a SHH Shifter w Amazon custom gear knob and dust/boot cover. Looks and works really well!
That's cool always thought it would be a great idea to install a boot cover.

Thanks for video. I ordered one shifter on Black friday sale. What plate do you use to mount it on aluminium sim lab rig? many thanks
Nice! You could use this one it works on all profile rigs and is what I use collabs.shop/kigz8b

Those are some serious shifters, I saw your setup videos, crazy setup man!
I love my clubsport shifter, I installed a short shifter shaft and feels better with shorter throws
Nice! Where did you get the short shaft from?
@The SimRacing Den got mine from simmakerz .... if you get one you should review it, I love mine with the shorter throws

That’s strange your having so many issues I haven’t had any problem with mine. What is the issue that keeps happening?

can I shift H patern without clutch for example in ATS or ETS?
I’m not sure about those sims as I don’t play them but others I know do have an auto clutch feature.

I have never had a race without it misshifting.
The fanatec looks nice but im a bit concerned about the volume. Saw a vid and it seems like its very loud.
Its not that loud IMO other shifters I've tested seem louder
It seems quieter than a lot of the others tbh, in fact if anything in sequential mode I'd like a more solid clunk

Still less than a real car
Or really even tires for a track day.
