No orchestra and conductor known. This is a great rarity with Hotter and Prey together, Hotter sang the role of Philip very rarely and only early in his career.

Hotter sang the role of the Grand Inquisitor over 400 times during his career.
His interpretation here of the 90 years old Inquisitor is ideal.
As it should be. Hotter was approaching his 70th birthday at the time of this performance.

Interesting to hear Estes and Hotter on the same stage, knowing that Estes definitely had a sizeable voice, but hearing Hotter must have been something special.

This is wonderful, thank you. Hotter (and Gottlob Frick for the dark roles) have always been my favourite basses, and I have never seen a video of Hotter as King Philip. He is magnificent - the voice, the diction, the poise.
Hotter doesn't get much love on UA-cam and I don't understand it. His voice had incredible ring. Even when he was singing over severe asthma from middle age the size was still there. I think he was I incredibly lyrical. I would definitely place Hotter ahead of London. In a comparison between Hines and Hotter, one could prefer either, but my choice is Hotter. I think Hines didn't have a huge variety of tonal qualities, and his style of singing did not emphasize lyricism
