So unless I play a murder-hobo (which I have in the past) I can't see myself killing random NPCs, but my first playthrough tend to be more serious. You can play the game however you want, of course. This is just how I like to play.
I regularly turned a whole town against me if a guard said the wrong thing or if a chicken looked at me wrong. There were some tasks I HAD to speed run to avoid getting killed or arrested in that area cos I didn't expect consequences for my murdersprees. Good times 😂

It must be something about Khajiit - I made a punchy-cat build once (claws + fists of steel + fortify unarmed damage enchantment), called her Pahn-Tzhee and thought she'd just be a joke, but she also did the whole main quest, both DLCs, got married to Mjoll the Lionness, and now lives in Lakeside Manor with her wife, housecarl, and adopted kids

The first way you got lydia to carry stuff is actually the best way to do it, as that way she can carry an unlimited amount.
