Well designed center airbag. Provides ample protection, but deflates after the crash so it doesn't trap the driver in the seat, and doesn't slam into the driver during inflation. April 15, 2022 12:52 am
The NX is the cheapest SUV lexus offers, on more expensive to the UX. If you can afford it then don't buy a luxury car :) You can always get a Toyota RAV4 with basically same stuff, just different branding and a bit less quality materials.
Actually in the test results only the occupant interaction was poor and then in the comments says :”The NX has a countermeasure to mitigate against occupant-to-occupant injuries in such impacts and, while this performed well in Euro NCAP's test, Lexus did not provide additional information to demonstrate that the performance was robust and symmetrical”. I don’t understand what it means!!
@@kristians2704 You are correct it is not below 5secs but it does less than 6.2secs. Japanese manufacturers are known to claim "worse" than reality: the Lexus NX450h+ does below 6 secs on a wet day with eco tires, not performance grip (like it was done with the car you mentioned). But to me, the NX450h+, X3 M40i or AMG GLC43 are no fun: they are just heavy elephants able to accelerate fast in a straight line... I would have more fun with a cheap MX-5 on a twisty mountain road than going fast in a straight line back and forth on board a 2 tons SUV. But to each their own... This NX450h+ I like for comfort, environment (its pure-electric range is enough for 90% of my daily trips being up to 90km in a city being careful), and practicality (boot space & rear seats) with enough punch to move it faster than a semi-truck.
Modern technology would make a vehicle too heavy to be safe in that speed range. The heavier the vehicle, the greater the kinetic energy, and the more dangerous the vehicle becomes. Safety standards are getting stricter year by year, and if we assume a collision at high speeds, the relative speed will reach 200~240km/h. This is why collision prevention technology is attracting attention along with collision safety technology.
I want to know exactly if that NX crash test has the "real" EV battery on that car - what would be the result to the EV battery/hybrid system with that impact?...that would be the "real" test for me.
I know right but if you get an EV suv it has a low center of gravity and is still very safe. Even if its not an EV, as long as it has a strong roof, thats all that matters so people dont get ejected out of the car incase of a rollover
I hit a deer going about 30mph, pretty surprised at how much damage was incurred, honestly. Even the side panels were sliced. Seems like the quality of materials is not great in these newer vehicles. Technology-wise. I can't complain.
Panels are supposed to deform to reduce the impact to your brain and organs of rapid deceleration. Alternatively, you could have rock solid side pans and a brain of mush after.
The active safety tests were really impressive! Seems to brake early which inspires confidence.
First time i’ve seen that middle airbag. Brilliant idea
Genesis already did that first tho
@@kfx3907 I think they just meant this is the first time they’ve ever seen it. It was for me. Genesis definitely had a good idea implementing a center airbag
Actually the center airbag was first invented in the Chevy Tahoe
exactly, the passenger's head shouldnt go flying into the driver in an accident, then it just defeats the purpose
Dont need to test a Lexus. Its the ultimate perfection car.

Thanks for posting, might be buying one soon and IIHS hasn't made one yet so this is perfect.
Good result, but I was expecting more than 83% protection of adult occupants
its due to the rescue thing it got-1 but all other test show something like 90

Its honestly disappointing, but those odds are still very good,
Better than the German competitors, and also in safety
not at all, cheap and poorly starched.
maybe in terms of safety, but never in terms of driving dynamics/fun.

Japanese version NX is not equipped with an airbag between the driver's seat and the front passenger's seat. Same for Yaris.
cuz we r small lol
Is for fat people. Not an issue in Japan.
yeah japan's traffic is slow anyways so I don't think there would be a hard enough impact for the passenger to actually need it

Excellent Vehicle
I never understood why they test cars at 50km which is 31 mph in the US. Why not test the average speed limit of 45mph which is 72km.
As long as the speed is standardized for all models, it is a good measure for safety and comparison cars
For this crush test in comparison to X3, GLC, XC60, how is the new NX?
very poor,
No significant difference - 5 stars everywhere. You can compare the crash videos.
