Dave I just wanted to thank you for all your videos and appreciate your sense of humor. Back in the 80's I primarily targeted flat heads on Wheeler and Wilson and watching your videos brings back memories. I don't fish for flat heads any more due to arthritis and stenosis in my spine. I don't think many who watch your videos understand what it takes to land big fish. I remember when I was in my twenties I hooked one below the Purina feed mill that gave everything I wanted. It took me almost 20 minutes to land that fish and the next morning I could feel every bone in my back. It was nothing ad big as you have caught but it would be my biggest. It weighed 47.9 pounds. About the only fishing I do is crappie and smallmouth on Pickwick. Thanks again Dave and you have one of the best channels on UA-cam. Watching you brings back many memories and for that I thank you. Keep them coming!
I just want to thank you...... I fished for catfish when I was a teenager but never caught anything very big. I have been watching your videos this summer and enjoying them. I finally purchased a surf rod and reel This week I have landed 4 fish 30-35 Pounds not much by your standards but great for Colorado...So THANK YOU have learned a lot Colorado
This is from my experience 40 years of surf casting, mostly in the UK. I had seven fixed spools to one conventional and I cast with the fixed spools on the top of rods I made myself to suit that reel position. I secured the line for casting (up 6oz weights out to 200+yards) with my thumb holding the line the reverse of what a finger would do under the rod. There is also a technique for extra yards of pinching the line down on the rod and as the rod comes near to the end of the cast the reel will carry on moving forward and pull the line from under the thumb just at the right moment. Look up layback and pendulum casting- greater distance, less effort.
Hey Dave, first thanks for the help finding the rods. Got my first one ordered yesterday. I fish a lot of flats on my side of lake Texoma. If u want to get it out to anything deep, have to have a great pole. I'll let u know. Don't let the negative people get u down. Plenty of us love your work. Ever down my way holler, we will go catch some. Tnx bro.
I recently picked up a 12 ft Surf casting rod...Looking forward to using it for the first time...Thanks Dave for sharing your videos and the good information that you provide.
your one dedicated young man.. David.. I sure enjoy your videos.. reminds me of cat fishing on the Mississippi as a kid.. although we never caught the monsters you caught and if we caught a "dink" we would hot foot it home for mamma to fry up for dinner.. Enjoy the heck outta ya my friend.. carry on and be safe..
You dont have to worry about me trailing you, I fish the Ohio river in KY. I'm watching no matter what the title says. Getting a sealine was best thing I did, thanks man!
Thanks Dave nice little fish I fish a large lake with 30 to 40 deep places so I had to get a lone pole so I could hit the sweet water from the bank keep on catching them
Hey Dave I was passing through town in the middle of the night last week. My eyes were getting heavy so I pulled into the Waffle House. I told then Catfish Dave sent me, I got free coffee and an extra biscuit with my gravy. They all gave a hoot & a holler and said they never miss one of Dave`s videos. nice blue btw.
My channel is basically nothing but bass fishing right now, I'm going to start going after some cats so I'm glad I found your channel! Awesome stuff. New subscriber! Keep it up!
Great night Dave, wind keeps the bugs down but I don't guess that matters in the Fall. Not sure where you are so ...... Nice cats. Appreciate your vids.
Thank you for your videos you're are awesome you're actually starting to get me to think more about what I want in fishing I'm getting there slowly due to the lack of money
Good video as usual Dave. Just a note, your affiliate link points to the spinning model Longitude. "LC-1-C-1202H-1" is on the far left and a mere $4 more. That said, under $100 for any surf rod with casting guides is a bargain and considering what we've watched you accomplish with them is above and beyond 90% of common Amazon reviews. Just wanna make sure you get your affiliate percentage as I'm not sure if the purchase needs to be link or product specific?
Another great video my friend. Thing about them surf rods, here in North Georgia, there is really nowhere to cast them. I have trouble with my 7ft rods but its great information. Thanks.
I've fished for river fish in Europe and the U.S. and some big boys in the Cortez. Probably one out of three still have an old hook or two, often including the Snell. I always look for old hardware on larger fish for its obviously helpful in keeping that hog healthier better able to forage...... and Like you I put the larger ones back to keep the gene pool strong and because the smaller seven to nine pounders have better flavor and the filets fit better in my cooler. I'm curious if you ever inspect your larger fish for 'break-offs', especially inside the bony back or the mouth?
I have a Penn Prevail,12ft. and a Diawa slosh 20. For ocean surf, not to expensive, but I only use it 4 months out of the year. I use 8oz. Weight. Nice show you got here.
I havent fished for over 25 years, but when I was a kid in Missouri that's all I did. Wasnt much else to do where I lived. I'd get up at 4am and ride my bike almost 10 miles to catch fish and then ride back. Back then I used Zebco reels. The big ones for Cats and the smaller ones for everything else. Not exactly sure what reels you are using, but if you (or anyone else) could recommend me a reel that I could probably figure out and heavy enough for 20lb (or bigger) cats Id sure appreciate it. I'm not even sure that Zebco makes good reels anymore and I dont have the money to buy stuff twice til I get it right. Thanks
hey catfish dave, greetings from Georgia! ive been fishing atleast 1nce a week ALL YEAR and both me and my buddy FINALLY hooked into some 20+ pound blues. been fishin the same waterway at mutltiple locations and catching 2 to 10 lbers but night before last we finally caught 2 in the 20 lb range and 1 i believe in the 30s!
Love your videos Dave.I live about 10 min. from the city of Guntersville and about 20 min. from Richard Gene the fishing machine. Love watching every video you both make. I wanted to tell you Dave if you keep using those high powered long distance rods you're using you may have to start buying out of state fishing license.
Well okay Dave and a couple of videos back I did ask the lamp on the rods and because I'm very interested in elephant Man Lent because I have one big baitcaster that I want to use it strictly for catfish or stripers and that's why I asked the lint on your surf rods and you told me and I thank you very much I usually don't asked about wait the sinkers the line the top of real I just don't I don't want to waste your time and but the rod length that I met using on mine now is a 7-foot and it seems that I can't get the distance that I want from that 7 foot I have located a 15-foot but I think that's 15 foot might be a little too much rod but you did make a video I'd say recently where that you buy most of your tackle from and I still have it the directions or the address to it and I'm thinking seriously about looking it up and going up and check him out so thank you for the information on the certain tackle that you got or you use and where you buy it that's very helpful thank you catfish Dave and have a blessed and a great day
@catfish Dave Thanks for the tackle info a couple nights ago I ordered a couple conventional reels my question being how’s the longevity been on that cheaper braid that you pointed out to us in that one vid I might go with mono to I’ll prolly use your link and get a couple of those Okumas coming
I have had a couple hard core fisherman tell me they have no trouble out of that Reaction braid. One of em catches many big stripers over 40 with his biggest a 60
Thank ya good sir I value your opinion with you consistently land really nice fish I’d be foolish not to take mental notes! I live just outside of Lincoln Nebraska not too far from the Missouri but unfortunately it’s been pretty well flooded far to stinking long so what does a guy do I’ve only ever been catfishing out of ponds / lakes doing it that way my personal biggest was 8 lbs “that should give u a good belly laugh” lol but boy was I happy! beer prolly had something to do with it as well
Good rod info thanks...just a few quick questions...what brand sinkers and swivels do you use? and that big green bush to the right ,do you take it fish ing with you for good luck? and do you like them Maggelen shirts? 🤔
Thank you the best catfish fisherman in the world Fishing Off the bank and I'm pretty sure you can be a beast fishing for catfish with the boat but that's not your style brother you OG Old Skool but at the end of the day you caught you catfish or three you got a nice one at the end between 30-40 lbs maybe 45 big head on that blue catfish and you explaining your fishing gear and fishing rods leaving the link below on Amazon to get then throw $68 depending on how many you buy I will get one of them suckers are you surprised I have about 10 of my home but they're Shakespeare's I like them I never had problems with them I've never had one break on me either but I use a spinning reel with it with 6 oz weights I can cast out pretty far at Lake Texoma Denison Dam Spillway I can cast from the Texas side all the way into the current on the Oklahoma side when they open the floodgates there's a corner on a concrete wall that's probably about 20 30 feet tall and I am right where the wall is at where it ends where the current is at and I just back off maybe about five or six feet from the current and I planned the big monster blue catfish every time I get in that hole is a hole there because when I turn the floodgates off I go spearfishing for alligator gar I do love to eat them I have caught them with bow and arrow and I've been to that corner in the summertime and that corner dropped about 10-15 feet and I went all the way down to the bottom and I got a bunch of Weights down there and fishing gear and I pulled out about a half of a 5 gallon bucket full of lead weights I'm pretty sure most of them were mine anyways it looked like it because it was the same setup that I used and I have been hung up in that spot plenty of times where I have to bust my line and that's a good I'm not going to lie because we're fishing on top the river is at the bottom so we're at least 30 ft above the river and when I throw my line out I'm not going to lie I'm out there 70 80 yards probably probably more than that but I do use 35 40 lb monofilament line saltwater line because I like the way it stretches and it doesn't have those crack marks on them when you retrieve your fish so it lasts a little bit longer for me and I bought the 1000 yard spool was a $26 or $36 something like that at Bass Pro Shop I do use the dry clean 40 lb test line the green one it's a light green lime color one and I like that line also because it stretches out it's not as stiff as per se the Shakespeare brand and I don't like using spiderwire on my spinning reels because when you have a bad throw it tightens up a lot and you have to let a lot of line out if not basically all of your line and then respool it back up and I don't like that so I'm monofilament guy. But thank you for sharing your fishing video with this mr. Catfish Dave king of catfish always catch a big monster catfish out at Tennessee River I was in Nashville Tennessee over there by the state capital of where they built that new Museum we installed the ACM panels and the copper finish panels that went on the outside of the building and I actually walked up the hill to the Capitol they call it Capitol Hill and I had a chance to go to Broadway Street and oh my Lord the gorgeous women out there it was like 10 women per man and a lot of the women were brides-to-be there were already engaged and soon-to-be married and they were out there messing around I got laid twice both nice that I went out there and they be having those rooftop parties and it is on fire over there I love it every time that I went out there it rains a lot in the summertime I don't know why but I like it over there I bought a go-kart at the pawn shop surprise me because they had it priced at a hundred and eighty bucks offer the guy $100 and he sold it to me and gave me two extra tires with rims to go with it and we've found the field and we had a blast I came back home tore it apart sandblasted it down and my brothers paint and body shop took all the dings out had them work on the frame painted the frame a Pearl Candy Apple Blue and I painted the rims on the tires a Candy Apple Blue and a friend that works for my brother did some striping on it we painted the motor man that go-kart when I got through with it I stopped at the gas station to put some gas in my truck and this guy said where did I buy my go-kart I'll tell him in Nashville Tennessee he asked me how much I paid for it I told him $1,500 but that I had just got it painted and I was taking it back home he said how much did you pay for the paint job I said well the paint job was was $400 but the striping cost me an additional $350 that's it so I've got like $2,300 tied up into them go kart she asked me if I was willing to sell it I sure will everything's for sale if the price is right he said well how about $3,200 cash right now I should give me 35 I'll back my truck up to yours and I unload the go-kart and give you two extra tires with rims already painted the same color and the tires are brand new on the go-kart he said deal he went into his center console he pulled out $3,500 and pay me my money and I'll let it go I sold it I went to the flea market in my city bought me another one for $300 had it painted the same color with the same striping on it and it even has some ghost flames and letterings on it and it was nice I got an offer if I want to sell it I said he'll fuck to the know I love to go karts and I got it my grandkids enjoy it we go to the ranch and we have fun with it I've got four wheelers and stuff like that as well but I love that go-kart I always wanted to go car since I was a little kid I never had one and now at my age I finally got one so after I paid for my go-kart and had to paint it I'm about to paint and materials I only got like a hundred bucks tied up into it try property $2,700 that's not a bad deal and it's a better go karts they had a brand new engine in it no problems with the chain popping off it I love it it go 60 miles an hour it hauls ass and I'm a grown ass man acting like I'm 13 years old and it burns rubber that sucker was sit there and Burn Rubber in my driveway I had a cop stop by but he couldn't do nothing I was in private property I wasn't on the street he stopped by and looked at it he said he liked it and he offered to buy the sucker I told him $7,000 he looked at me like I was crazy and that look he gave me was like I better not catch you on the street with this go-kart im going to take it away from you and impound it and not give it back to you and I'm going to take that go-kart away from you but when I go fishing I'll take it with me out there there's a place where we can drive it and ride it and I have fun with you then some of them youn fine ass woman be fishing they want to ride it it's a two-seater and I got laid over there to five times already girls when they're not girls they not young they 28 and 35 year olds but we go way back in the back and they smoke weed I don't they got horny and I had what they wanted a third leg below my belly button
Hey Dave, can we catfish fans get more videos? You can just shoot the breeze with some baits in the water. You're very relaxing and entertaining to watch. Push this UA-cam thing far as you can. Plus you got some fans downstream in Decatur Alabama. I don't mind the strippers when they don't tear my reels up. Had one strip my old synergy steel reel. Oh I did grab one of those basspro catfish combos on the longest rod they had. $50 we'll see if its any good.
I JUST RETIRED FISHING 🎣 I have been fishing every weekend for 5 months using cut bait, nightcrawlers, chicken liver, minnows, hotdogs, etc. Not one catfish, and this is soddy lake of the Tennessee river. Been too 7 different spots setting for hours and hours. I'm done. Not even CATFISH DAVE could catch one here
Hey Dave, the link in your description for Amazon is a spinning rod. I have seen that pole in a casting version (smaller eyes). Wouldn't you want the casting version for the conventional (Saltist, etc) reels?
Ben Hensley - not Dave but double the length , of your rod, then add 3-4 feet. I have a 12 ft. Surf rod, 25ft of to pound shock leader, an 17 pound test line. Hope that helps.
I have had problens in the past with cheap Chinese reel seats that okuma used for a while dang reels would flop around on ya while trying to reel a fish in
If i already said this i appoligize but a few weeks ago i passed by a seafood joint near akron ohio low and behold it was called kingfish!! Since dave has been dubbed ol' kingfish i thought he might get a kick out of that!!You might want to start wearing the right jacket so nobody complains lol!!
Consistent uploads. Hope you live in a good place to fish year round. Just reeling in fish won't make you big time. You are gonna have to have a personality to go with it
Dave, I enjoy watching your videos ... and how you comment on things ... mostly with your "tongue in Cheek". Does the term "Paranoia" sound familiar? Not everybody is trying to find your fishing spots nor care much for catfish for that matter. Relax and enjoy your sport ... there are a lot of us non-fishermen who simply enjoy watching you do what you are good at ... catching catfish and commenting humorously about your world.
Just curious Dave, because it just hit me and made me wonder. Forgive me if I missed the statement before, because I have watched a good amount if not most of your video's. Why do you go out mostly at night?
Longitude rod might be the best. The Daiwa beef stick surf rod is paralleled to it. Only thing about the daiwa. Is that its top part is a little too soft. If they beef the top part just a tad. It could be the best. It's identical to the longitude just 30bucks cheaper. Lol
@@catfishdave8192 correction. I'm poor. My UA-cam channels don't make the millions like yall 555 in laotian means hahaha there u learn a new 3rd world country's language Dave rofl. But for us po folks. Under 100 bucks range. . The akuma longitude is by far the best. The daiwa beef stick 10ft is under 50range. Could be best of all range 555555
okumafishingusa.com/products/longitude Okuma website of rods. Make sure you get the C model not S. Can find them cheaper elsewhere but there are the specs.
Dieter Melhorn could probably help you out picking the right equipment to catch catfish being that he is the king . You should fish with him and get some tips on how to catch catfish .
if you are going to make a comparison like that it ought to be apples to apples, first off dieter equipment is boat stuff and daves stuff is bank equipment and im sure dieter would agree.catfish dave is the KING of bank fishing hands down.both are good at what they do,but for you to tell dave he needs to ask dieter to help him pick out the right equipment and that he should fish with him to pick up tips was wrong on your part
I don’t think Dave needs any tips. Dave has caught a 93 pounder from the bank and several 50, 60 and 70. Both are good at what they do but to say he needs lessons is crazy.
Dave’s videos are the reason I now own several. I never thought about them until I started watching. Switching definitely help me catch more and better fish.

Great video brother!! I appreciate that you are doing this rod review here on the edge of the water and not seated in your living room👍👍
Hey Dave, first thanks for the help finding the rods. Got my first one ordered yesterday. I fish a lot of flats on my side of lake Texoma. If u want to get it out to anything deep, have to have a great pole. I'll let u know.

I recently picked up a 12 ft Surf casting rod...Looking forward to using it for the first time...Thanks Dave for sharing your videos and the good information that you provide.
Thanks Dave, you sold me. I have been looking for a long heavy rod. I think I found the one I want. Now to choose a reel.

One more thing cf Dave your rod link is for the spinning version yours has the s instead of the c in the part number
You have to click on rod model to find it. I don't know why Amazon won't let me link the exact rod..
Morning Dave from Ohio. Thanks for the good info on rods.

I know you get asked tons about your rods, but where do you get them sweet rod holders at? Lol I love when introduce you're rod holders in your videos
He a beautiful fish.good catch
I just love rippin done lip 🎣🎣🎣 thank you.
Your the man Dave thanks for making another video.i bought 2 big water ugly sticks

Great video Dave as usual.
I'm going fishing with my adult son in the Arkansas river this weekend
What section of the river you fish?

Good morning Dave. Where'd the pickin' music go? ;p
I JUST RETIRED FISHING 🎣
I have been fishing every weekend for 5 months using cut bait, nightcrawlers, chicken liver, minnows, hotdogs, etc.
TennCutty u are correct. U want the Lc-c-12o2h 1. That’s the casting version of the same rod. Hit his link and scroll to the bottom. Hope this helps
Nice video Dave I have a shock leader question how long should it be?
Ben Hensley - not Dave but double the length , of your rod, then add 3-4 feet. I have a 12 ft. Surf rod, 25ft of to pound shock leader, an 17 pound test line. Hope that helps.
50 pound shock leader*
I have had problens in the past with cheap Chinese reel seats that okuma used for a while dang reels would flop around on ya while trying to reel a fish in
I’ve asked Santa for okuma longitude and sealine 30. What’s your thoughts on okuma classic xt? Great videos. Thanks for the show!!!
great video Dave
Good video Dave , I think im going to invest in a couple of those Okumas Thanks ,you could sell ice cream to an Eskimo
Still a nice catch and I always enjoy your videos
If i already said this i appoligize but a few weeks ago i passed by a seafood joint near akron ohio low and behold it was called kingfish!! Since dave has been dubbed ol' kingfish i thought he might get a kick out of that!!You might want to start wearing the right jacket so nobody complains lol!!
Got 2 of them longitudes i love them
I’d take that bucket rod holder and turn it over and make a bucket style seat. What kind of bucket do you use ? That a drywall compound bucket?
Huge fan would love to see more videos
wheres the cougars ?
How hard is it for someone who not tall to cast. one of them rods am 5"7 someone who not tall .would they have a harder time casting a taller rod??
Catfish dave you got any tips for starting fishing channel on here myself
Consistent uploads. Hope you live in a good place to fish year round. Just reeling in fish won't make you big time. You are gonna have to have a personality to go with it
Just ordered some poles!
Catfish Dave great video 😎 I always wanted to start a UA-cam channel what advice can you give me???
A full time job for one. When I do get daylight time on the weekend it is usually consumed trying to find skipjack
@@catfishdave8192 10-4, love the video's. Best wishes
What reel are you using on that rod
Pretty cool Thanks 👍👏👏🤠
What moon phase do you prefer I always though a full moon was best
Longitude rod might be the best. The Daiwa beef stick surf rod is paralleled to it. Only thing about the daiwa. Is that its top part is a little too soft. If they beef the top part just a tad. It could be the best. It's identical to the longitude just 30bucks cheaper. Lol
Not the best. The best for the money
Catfish Dave is a god damn American hero
Hey Dave, any thoughts on the 12' Okuma Tundra rods?
I have never had my hands on one
Where is the toe tapping music during the fight?
More banjo!
Only reason for a high dollar rod imo , would be if your casting over and over using plugs.
From what I have seen, it seems like skipjack heads catch more fish than body sections. Do you think there is anything to that?
Not all the time. I have seen days they won't touch a head. Just use all of it and see what is working best that day.
Where is the banjo music?
No banjo music?
Hey Dave where's the music my friend.
Are Blue cats good eating?
MrOldSchool4Life yea
We are going to use ytube and Google Earth to triangulate where your at Dave - just kidding great vid your the best .
okumafishingusa.com/products/longitude
Okuma website of rods. Make sure you get the C model not S.
Can find them cheaper elsewhere but there are the specs.
Can you put a linx to those hooks!?
I can't find the ones you have been talking about

The wind was singing thru your lines lol. If you dislike the full moon why do you fish it then?
From the sound of you I thought you had caught a cinder block.
You have posted many flicks showing the same bush . Almost certainly some one will post directions . ( Whoops I forgot , you are sneaky )
He doesn't like full moons cause he's a werewolf
Damn no banjo music during the fights...
Well how about that
Just keep it up
Fishing in the wind is the same as fishing when it's windy just wear more clothes when it's cold
Dieter Melhorn could probably help you out picking the right equipment to catch catfish being that he is the king . You should fish with him and get some tips on how to catch catfish .
He is a food cat fisherman, from a boat. Bank fishing is a whole another kind of fishing.
if you are going to make a comparison like that it ought to be apples to apples, first off dieter equipment is boat stuff and daves stuff is bank equipment and im sure dieter would agree.catfish dave is the KING of bank fishing hands down.both are good at what they do,but for you to tell dave he needs to ask dieter to help him pick out the right equipment and that he should fish with him to pick up tips was wrong on your part
I don’t think Dave needs any tips. Dave has caught a 93 pounder from the bank and several 50, 60 and 70. Both are good at what they do but to say he needs lessons is crazy.
@@markmanis4267 the 12ft. rod is a must for getting your bait out far enough, where as in a boat you anchor up over the spot you want to fish
Dave’s videos are the reason I now own several. I never thought about them until I started watching. Switching definitely help me catch more and better fish.
ARE YOU SURE!!! THIS NOT CCR'S "A BAD MOON ARISEN!!!"
I just had to watch a Bernie Sanders commercial to see this video
I feel for you.
Werewolf’s like to fish also
Longer rod longer cast
