I'm a "striper guy" first, and a catfish guy second. I fish for cats in the hotter months, just so I don't kill stripers. I won't fish for stripers again until the water cools back off in the late fall. I know you feel bad about the striper. I have been in the same situation. The only thing to do is do your best, and not let it go to waste if you cant get it to go. Thing is, even if you had gotten it to swim off, a fish that big likely would have laid on the bottom and died anyway. I applaud your efforts to get it revived, and glad you left it in the video. Cant help it man! Enjoy your meal(s)!
Dave I love your videos! You are one of the best fishermen in this great country of ours! Keep doing your thing buddy! I'm gonna take tips from you and pass them on to my son who's only 4 right now but he'll grow up using some of your techniques! Thanks again buddy!
Can’t help losing a few fish in hot water , if anyone fishes n summer they know that we will lose a few fish and that’s not your fault keep on fishing Dave.
Hi Dave. I was out fishing the other day and I kept having strong runs with my bait but couldn't hook up. So I remembered your pick up the rod and run trick. HOLLY CRAP! I was setting every circle hook on Gar! Sadly no cats but I landed a nice 5 ft Gar. I'm definitely using your technique from here on out! 👍
@@chivas94ification It works with circle hooks. Just don't yank like setting a hook on a bass. You want a long pull while the fish is running out line.
"It makes my day to go fishing with you and all of the people who watch your videos!" I am a "Carpman" for fun: After a mild hit, they give it a good hard run, and then a pretty decent "tug-of-war" after. I follow the protocall of the fisherman in the UK. Respecting and taking care of the fish is a primary concern! Thank you for you effort to revive that fish!
Hi Dave enjoy your videos brings back memorys when my dad took me catfishing he had long bamboo pole straped to 55 chevy thats how i was showed how to catfish im now 63 years old and still dont have nothing over 10 lbs. I do want a trio to santee cooper for a chance to get a big one im from greenville sc keep it up and i will keep watching tks Harold
My respects to you Dave, that's really honorable to see how you were trying to save that beautiful big fish.. too many assholes just don't give crap about the fish, I am surfcaster my self, tights lines buddy.
New subscriber from Michigan. I visit family in Baxter, TN ( near cookeville) once or twice a year. We just don’t have the size cats in Michigan like Tennessee. Would love to fish with you on one of my visits! Enjoy the videos!
A true fisherman! Even though you hate those dagblasted fish with the stripes on them you do your best to save them. that shows heart. I watch your videos every day. Thanks for all the knowledge you give us, and for keeping us laughing all while catching trophy fish.
I grew up in spring city, used to catch big rockfish on watts bar and your right about the big stripers, they are pretty much dead when you pull them out of the water.
Dave If I lived near you I wold start a special foundation for the preservation of Dave's Dock Damon. We would give the bait rod it's own red rod holder. Tee Hee. Great show thanks.
I am a striper Fisher man an I hate to see big one die but I have to say u tried your best an No matter what it happens but I am glad u kept him u are a true fisherman 😁
Oh I love my Zebco Doc Demon , so much fun I picked one up last year and have caught the fire out of Blue gills , one day I caught 26 large mouth bass 1-3 lbs on a black rooster tail . 1 channel cat on red 🪱 what a blast. Good job trying to revive that stripper makes a lot of fish tacos 👍
Dave, I rarely comment on anything. I know this video is old, but I wanted to commend your efforts to revive the striper in this video.. We catch massive bull Redfish on the GA coast and that exact scenario happens now and then. It truly bothers me when one goes belly up.. I'll come off anchor, anything I can do to save that 45 pound Redfish, but sometimes, there's nothing more we can do as you know well. You made several very true attempts to get her going. Marks of a TRUE sportsman.. I think you did the right thing for showing it happens sometimes and the awareness aspect... Anyhow, I Appreciate all your content, we enjoy watching.. Fish on, rock on Dave... - - Richie
Crap happens man,you cant help what bites your baits, thats the risk we take while fishing, then trying to bring it back that shows the respect you have for the sport, you earned my respect for not wasting it,i dont keep fish unless that does happen, awesome video man,im trying to catch up on the older ones lol
You MUST be crazy about cat fishing to go on a work night. Good job on trying to revive the striper, that's all you could have done even when you knew it wasn't going to work out for Mr. Striper. Thanks for your videos. I'm just now getting back into cat fishing and hope I don't get the bug quite that bad. Not many good options where I live. (so. la.) every good place starts at an hour or more away. Not quite as young as you. 10 years ago, a couple of hours wouldn't matter. Good fishin
I know you love your Zebco, just like I love mine but I just saw you showing some new respect for that combo, now that it's catching catfish. Zebco is the best.
Can't save em all. I've seen over the top cpr guys just leave them floating. No sense In wasting them. I caught an 18lb channel on a dock denon. Great video as always.
Hey Catfish Dave. I’m just going back and watching some of your old videos again. Have you ever made a video on how you make your floats or where you get them from.
Hi Dave, I've just started watching your videos, I do most of my fishing on lake Hamilton and lake ouichita In and just outside of Hot Springs Arkansas..where someone thought it was a good idea to stock those useless stinking stripers ..mostly for the tourists But I really dont see a dozen or so guys showing up annually to play catch and release with 30 to 70 lbs predator fish that eat their weight in trout bass blue gill shell crackers and gizzard shad every day..I've had those big ass bait stealers destroy a few of my rods and reels over the years ..I sure wish they quit stocking those things in the lakes.. the rivers are a different story ..I've caught striper in salt water and the flavor is night and day wen it comes to the difference.. I appreciate your videos Dave.. I've gotten a few helpful ideas from you.. lol I'm even thinking of trying chicken breast..lol
Are you kidding me? Made a comment on one of your other videos it’s always fun when your trying to catch bait for catfish and catch a catfish instead. Ha ha. You the man Catfish Dave!
Like you say.... "You never know until you throw". I've caught 20lb catfish off the dock on my baitfish poles 😂 I learned at an early age after many break offs and lost poles, to use heavy gear for my baitfishin.
Excellent input on tactics and general knowledge of catfishing. Glad to see you are responsible and will eat the rockfish. Overall Very entertaining video.
LOL you had me laughing and crying at the same time when you said if you want to bring your kids here for some nice bluegills don't bring them here after you caught that catfish oh boy I tell you I love watching your videos and I've only been subscribed less than an hour and I watched a few of your beauty has already I like you you're cool cat keep up the good work brother you're funny you got charisma and that's what I'm talking about and you love fishing we got something in common we love catfish
I have an 8” live bait fish Nader a bobber targeting a Striper. I’ve had 3 Ugly Stiks wear a groove in the guides on mono. Good rods, but the guides are soft. My $40 Okuma combo is the best I’ve had in 40 years.
Hey Dave I haven't been a subscriber from the start but saw your 100lb cat video...why don't post it here for people who haven't seen it.....again another great video.
Thank you for eating that fish, a lot of guys wouldn’t even try to save it much less eat it...Respect. A true fisherman who actually gives a crap about the wildlife.
Dave! Me and my friend have watched every video you’ve posted. We catfish the Chickamauga almost every weekend, we would love to come up and fish with you somewhere or you come down and fish with us. Let us know what you think! Thanks.
He might not prefer to catch stripers, but there's no questioning he still has plenty of respect for them. You can tell when he was explaining why that didn't work out. Hell of a fish, Dave.
We eat stripe all the time. Cut the red meat out and soak the meat in a ice milk bath for an hour after you wash the oil out in water. Roll them in Louisiana fish fry right out the milk. Pre heat the Oil on 400. Can’t beat it. Well you can beat it but it’s good
Nice flathead. That channel gave you a good fight on the dock demon. Hell of an effort to revive that monster striper. You faired better than I with the full moon.
I know this vid is 4 years old, Dave, but... did you think about mouth to mouth resuscitation? I know it works with mammals ! Maybe next time? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 just kidding, brother... KEEP THE LINE WET, YOU DID GREAT !
Hellow catfish Dave a very nice stripper bass you have caught do you use floating lures & don't give away all your fishing secrets to us Viewers leave us a bit of mystery🤔 on you fishing videos it will make your fishing videos more interesting catfish dave . Thank you very best wishes from Mr Ben Golby 👍 👌
When he said “if you ever want to take your kids blue gill fishing don’t bring them here” I spit my my drink out. Lmao 😂
“Going to work can really mess with your fishing.” I need to talk to my boss.....
That's how a real Sportsmen does it Dave eat what you kill good job😎

Striper are not native to Tn. I remember when they where introduced. Predators to the bass, cats, crappie and brim. My opinion.
Dave I love your videos! You are one of the best fishermen in this great country of ours! Keep doing your thing buddy! I'm gonna take tips from you and pass them on to my son who's only 4 right now but he'll grow up using some of your techniques! Thanks again buddy!
Aren't the big ones full of parasites? Can you even eat Striped Bass? I've heard they're not good.
@@leftovergaming9529 they are really good to eat if they are 18 inch to 25 inch anything higher is no good.
He said that striper was 40lbs. It was 20 at best.
Great video… great job trying to save the Striper... but at least you had plenty of fish for supper. keep posting Dave !!
Can’t help losing a few fish in hot water , if anyone fishes n summer they know that we will lose a few fish and that’s not your fault keep on fishing Dave.
Nice try to save that striper, you are a good man Dave !
That’s a good example of why sportsmen are the best conservationists of wildlife. Good try on the striper 👍🏻 that was a beast of fish!!
This is an awesome video ive watched all of them this is my favorite To see daves compassion for the fish
Hi Dave. I was out fishing the other day and I kept having strong runs with my bait but couldn't hook up. So I remembered your pick up the rod and run trick. HOLLY CRAP! Does this apply to circle hooks or just regular hooks?
@@chivas94ification It works with circle hooks. Just don't yank like setting a hook on a bass. You want a long pull while the fish is running out line.
Great video Dave. Thanks for trying to save the stripper for others. I appreciate you not wasting the meat. Good Job...

Great video Catfish Dave. Nice heavy striper & a nice flathead. Not a bad evening of fishing. Enjoyed the show.

Damn Bro! Thats a nice Rock Fish! Good effort trying to revive him tho. New follower here and excellent fishing spot! Tfs!
Multitasking Dave. 3 rods. Casting everywhere. Fish on. Fish off. Exciting stuff right there.
Did the right thing! Best description of bass I've ever heard: strong! But fragile.cats and carp are so much more hardy.
That ole stinkin channel cat looked like it was kinda fun to fight on the dock demon
You sure are one heck of a multi-task kinda fella beautiful flattie love the marble coloring and that was some striper can't save em all great video
I grew up in spring city, used to catch big rockfish on watts bar and your right about the big stripers, they are pretty much dead when you pull them out of the water.
That was an awesome sized Stiper. That would have to be a block party sharing at 40 lbs.

I live in Maryville, where should I go in the middle of winter to catch huge Catfish? The deepest whole in Ft.Loudon fishing with fresh skipjack?
Thanks for the reality of fishing...true sportsman.
Beautiful colors on the Flattie
The smaller ones are the best eating ones Dave! I live in Colorado. So the only ones I catch are Channels.
I know you love your Zebco, just like I love mine but I just saw you showing some new respect for that combo, now that it's catching catfish. Zebco is the best.

You da man, Dave! You are a great teacher. I'd love to just sit in a lawn chair and watch you fish!
Catfish Dave keeping it real, why I like your videos, no cover-ups, music, stories and educational!

Hate to come back in life as a Blue Gill in TN around Mr. Catfish Dave. Enjoy your videos sir, thank you (good job too)
All the bream are under the barge.
Kind of cool to see his reaction to losing the striper, man actually cares. Nice to see.
You take your time reeling them in, I caught many fish. next time i go out. I will enjoy my catch
nice job trying to revive that fish, it shows your respect for the fish and you have gotten my respect.
This may be the baddest dude on the tube. Tennessee river or bust baby.. shelby county in the house, dave!!!
Good try saving that striper, would make a beautiful mount.
Hey Dave now that you have a boat do you ever go back to the area where you used to fish off shore

catfish pole holders great asset so that can finish one task before losing a fish you just landed and not have to choose which takes priority !!!!
Could have made a cooking video with the striper. Dave's Fish Fry.
Great video! I am a new sub. Really been enjoying your channel!

fall is the best time..winter isn't bad
Well you tried to bring him back. thanks for trying and good on ya for showing it and explaining it.
Dave. What kind of light are you using ? Very good video
Striper has a big rib cage. They have plenty of tasty meat but not as much as you’d think.
That’s a true fish story that applies to a lot of big fish. Got to figure out how to smoke some fish ribs 🤥
You do realize that the Tenn river runs into the Tombigbee River, home to monster cats. 😅😅
He might not prefer to catch stripers, but there's no questioning he still has plenty of respect for them. You can tell when he was explaining why that didn't work out.
Hell of a fish, Dave.
Wow your the man Dave, that's a nice way to get revenge.
Mark
Dave in using the Demon Dragon is it mainly used for trolling r can it b used for bank fishing?

Well I know that stripper tasted good on the grill... great vid 🍺
Don't know what to say, but they bake up good 😉. Keep it real like you always do.
