I am Dutch. We learn about bicycles at the same time we learn to walk. It is simple, Gazelle is known to be one of the best quality bikes for as long as I remember. And no, they don’t pay me in any way declaring this. ( I wish they would, I would love to own this beautiful spedelec ) Best regards.
Gazelle has been in business since 1892. Bosch has been in business since 1886. A lot of what you're buying is their legacy of excellence, and confidence in knowing that five years down the road if you need a new battery, they'll still be in business. Gazelle guarantees their frames for 10 years, longer than many other ebike companies have been in existence. Great review Tyler.
This guy knows his stuff!! Great video!! One unfortunate downside is the other guy who is standing next to the bike like he’s afraid you will grab the bike and run 🤣
Your skill at one-handed riding while successfully framing camera shots from all angles is impressive. Nice work. I've been researching my first e-bike purchase and got an opportunity to test ride one of these bikes today. I also test rode a hub drive bike around the $2500 price point of my budget. Let's just say I've increased my budget to the $4000 range. It was quite an impressive bike. I'm not even looking at hub drive bikes anymore. I just with the Ultimate T10+ had more range in Turbo mode. I don't need to go fast, I just need an easier pedaling experience when I do.
I like how nice and long this ride test was. You guys should put out all the full length unedited first person rides you guys did over the years since we can't go outside now. We can virtually be outside for 40min or more through you and if we have bike trainers we can ride along with you
4:03 lumen is actually the right unit here. (Although candela might even be better) Lumen is the amount of light being emitted (in all directions) by a light source. Lux is the amount of light (in lumen) hitting a surfade of square meter.
The Medeo T10+ seems to be almost identical, but the Medeo is $500 less. The only significant difference seems to be the slightly better derailleur... what am I missing?
Several things. The Ultimate has a better front fork with a solid adjustment lever and longer travel. The battery on the Ultimate is mounted on top, while the battery is mounted below the frame on the Medeo. The seat is better on the Ultimate, and so is the lighting. The geometry between the Medeo and Ultimate are different, with the Ultimate being more efficient and aggressive, while the Medeo is more relaxed and less efficient. Tires on the Medeo are wider than on the Ultimate, but both are inflated to the same pressure. The tires on the Ultimate have a higher puncture resistance rating. Rims on the Ultimate are better than on the Medeo. The frame on the Ultimate also has better technology than the frame on the Medeo. The Ultimate has a better rack system than the Medeo. But don't get me wrong. Both the Medeo and Ultimate are far better than anything you can get from China, and Gazelle dealerships have top-notch service. The biggest advantage the Medio has over the Ultimate is in the gearing, as the Medeo has better gearing range (but it won't have the physical range the Ultimate has because the Ultimate is more efficient). The biggest disadvantage with the Medeo, is that it sells out faster than the Ultimate because most riders don't really need what the Ultimate has to offer. So if you are in the market for a speed pedelec, it is best to purchase a Medeo earlier in the spring. You can buy more time with the Ultimate because of the higher cost. At this point in time, Gazelle is having to reduce their production due to a shortage of components.
Hey thanks for the very thorough video that was awesome! I am getting real close to getting one of these. What year model was that bike? And is that tail light very bright it was kind of hard to see on the video. Thanks very much in advance

It seems strange to me to have any more than 3 gears on a e-bike. 3 speed internal geared hub seems like it would be used more than it is. All of the use of derailleurs these days seems like you’re asking for problems. What 3 speed e-bike would you recommend as “cheap, best bang-for-your-buck”??
Hmm, I like cassettes and derailleurs because they shift really fast and reduce weight. I haven't seen hardly any ebikes with three-speed internally geared hubs lately, but I'll keep an eye out! Some Riese & Müller models use fancy Rohloff hubs! But that might not fit your budget electricbikereview.com/riese-muller/supercharger-gx-rohloff-hs/
It is a nice bike and I enjoyed your review but my main comment is to make a point in general about the integration of the middrive and battery. It is appealing when an ebike can look more like a nonebike, is it too much to paint the battery cover and even the motor the same color as the frame?
That's a good point... I've had mixed feelings about colorized battery covers because that means they can look ugly if switching packs between bikes (like if you own several Gazelle models). This is the case with two recent Electra ebikes I covered electricbikereview.com/brand/electra/ but they had covers that were screwed onto the battery pack. If the cover is not, it can be lost more easily... in any case, color-matching battery covers can increase price and make it difficult or time consuming to get a matching replacement. Long winded answer, just something that's crossed my mind too :/
Hello tyson, and thanks again for this great gazelle video. I should have my bike next week. Have you thought about doing an e-bike helmet review.? This comes to mind because I was looking at your helmet and it definitely looks like an e-bike helmet, what make is that? If you don't mind me asking thanks again
That's a great video idea, if we make that I'll bump this comment to let you know! But yes, an e-bike helmet is nice because they often have smart features like flashing LED lighting and Bluetooth connectivity. Ill see what we can put together, happy trails! Mike
That was a nice complete test, but that hill at the end got you struggling even with the 350w motor on Turbo on a calm no wind day it seems... This is one of my main concerns with these type of killer hills and stress tests because in real life i have some of these hills and it is no fun to think you paid over 4k for an ebike that is defeated in this type of scenarios. I have owned only throttle ebikes (for budget reasons, they are cheaper compared to Bosch) with the first one being small 350w motor, it still helped on these type of hills tremendously with throttle, my latest one is a 750w motor nominal and full throttle DESTROYS even the steepest hill no problems, only problem extra drain on the battery but its got decent battery 48v 20ah, im planning to buy an extra battery. Nowadays i am in the market for this type of Bosch ebike that is stealthier (and elegant) compared to the monster battery that my throttle ebike has. This ebike is still great candidate for myself, i love everything about it and the fact it has option for second battery, but the fact that these hills make the Bosch system literally disappear... seriously its not even funny, i wonder if Bosch would ever jump to 48v systems and at least 500w motors, pretty sure a lot of folks would appreciate the extra power needed in these elevations. Thank you for the full review!
Interesting. I own a Rad Power City Bike and I have trouble climbing hills. I think mid drive motors are much better because of the direct drive. I have a Kalhoff Agattu although it's motor isn't as sophisticated as the Bosch motor, it still climbs a lot easier than my Rad Power bike. The Rad Power bike I have is definitely a lot faster.
I'd be interested in knowing the same too. Would appreciate if you could share about gazelle ebikes comparable to the vado 4.0 if this is not the one, too. Also, what's up with the step-thro's - are they becoming more popular?
@@skmirch I'm now 72 years old and knees are kind of shot. Also, when my little schnauzer is in the rear box, I kick her in the face when I'm on a standard frame :)
With the higher stress on the chains, do they have to be changed more often? Even on my regular bike, the chain stretches out after a few thousand miles of riding.
Can you adjust the power level on each power mode? Is there app like specialized bikes have were you can go into diagnostics and change assistance %for each mode.?
You ever consider getting a helmet mounted Go-Pro!? Would make your job a lot easier….and safer…since riding around with one hand is not the best way to get the real feel of a bike.
Great review and bike! I do wish they had a version with the 625wh battery and HS motor, for additional range. How do you like the ride with the 1.75" tires compared to other brands that have 2.4" tires?
I have the CityzenT-10 hmb, 2019. I see the battery chamber is the same on this model. My battery gets stuck all the time. Sometimes I can’t get it monkeyed in there for 45 agonizing minutes. Everything else is great, but this battery housing design is flawed.
Thanks for the encouragement, Dennis! This was one of Tyson's early reviews, so his work has gotten even better. Gazelle asked us to hold it to time with availability... it's nice to get early access like that :D
Cool a American store sells the Dutch brand Gazelle. To be honest its a nice bike but Gazelle is overpricing it. Its the same in the Netherlands its not cheaper over here you would probably think. For that price it should atleast have a full groupset.
Thanks for the feedback from the Netherlands! It has been interesting to see the Pon group try Kalkhoff and Focus but then narrow down to Gazelle. Seems like a good "all around" brand. I like the rich heritage and the Royal Dutch designation that they've earned :)
Hi Thomas. I had a look at the Dutch website, but same bike is 4199 EURO over in The Netherlands. So $3999 (even taking tax in consideration), does not seem like a bad deal ;-)
It’s like a motorcycle salesman spending tons of time pitching a bike before mentioning if it’s a 250 or a 750. Please prioritize logically, this is painful.
