I love driving a windy mountain road with Crushing Day on or hitting a desert highway listening to Flying In A Blue Dream or Summer Song. Absolute genius, perfection, the definition of artistry.

Watching your expressions as the song went along was even better than the song. Next check out Satch Boogie or Flying In A Blue Dream. Satch is also one of only a few guitarist that two hand taps and it doesn't sound like an EVH rip off. Very musical & melodic with his playing.

When I played racing videogames with a friend, back in the day, we turned down the game audio and played Satriani music. That "he taught Steve Vai" is partially true. He taught the basics. But Vai developed through Zappa. I prefer Vai's music. It's more metal, Satriani leans more towards rock/fusion.
I know I came upon you guys like a year after you posted this. But I am a huge Satch fan. I am going to suggest you guys try two of his songs. Hell, even for just your own enjoyment. Song 1: Circles (the live version), and song 2: Nineteen Eighty (A far more recent song)
The effect which you mean is called "whammy effect" You can pitch the guitar note with your feet if you have such a pedal on the floor. Its absolutely fun. There is a song called searching with a great riff of this effect. Tom Morello is using this effect a lot as well. The Killing in the name solo is legendary.
