I replaced the transmission in my 08 chevy cobalt and I promise you the hardest part of the whole job was removing and replacing the starter 😂 wish they would have came up with a better way to mount them smh
Remember that winter we had last week. I changed the starter and my sister drove it. I mean my cousin I mean my cousins mechanic changed it. It's probably locked up.
I bet one of the more rewarding parts of what you do is delivering a good message to extremely stressed people. There s nothing that effects a humans stress level than a car that’s acting up.
What I learned from this, and also a shit mechanic who worked on my car one winter, is never trust a 'new' starter. Had intermittent no-cranks for a year and thought it was electrical gremlins. Turns out they charged me $180 for a remanned piece of junk with chunks missing off the pinion cover... Lasted no more than 6 months before the problem started with a dead spot.
It’s insane the amount of idiots who just leave bolts out of things. I’ve bought two cars in the past year and one was missing the steering column bolts and the other was missing the rack and pinion bolts. Video hyped me up glad to see the guy just has to buy a bolt.
I wish I had a guy like you were I live man. I’m slowly learning how to work on my own vehicles because there are not any trustworthy mechanics in my city.
It's always a good idea to learn, but they're out there. I had to go through 5 in my city before I found my mechanic, and he's the best dude I've ever dealt with. There are no parts mark up and super reasonable hourly rates. Guy even loaned me his personal car when he had an issue getting a part and couldn't get my car done the same day once. I'd say just check Google reviews. Look for someone smaller but with a lot of 5 star reviews and see how they feel when you go in. Even if you're trying to do your own work, it's nice to have a good mechanic lined up for if you run into something you can't or just don't want to do. Also, look at the negative reviews and see what people complained about.
An experienced mechanic of excellence and a good, honet man, who understands the purpose of being in business. The purpose? To help people. I hope this man is making a profitable living.
Bought my 06 tundra V6 with 180k. Was a farm truck, seller told me it had a new alternator and battery. I had electric issues pop up after a few months, and just about a year later now the alternator died. While pulling it, when I removed the top pivot bolt, the whole thing dropped. The lower bolt had been installed in the alternator without going through the mounting point on the block 😂 no wonder the serpentine was chewed up when I got it, and boy she is running stupidly better now with stable voltage to the ECU.
This top bolts are in an awkward spot but they or doable. They key is once you get the bottom bolt in, you then should be within the correct angle for the top
Good job. My wife one time was at credit union drive thru the start was bout to fall off wouldn't crank i pushed it out of way and got some bolts then later I installed oem bolts
People are scam artist if they just put as much work and actually fixing the part and scamming people they might have a business. Appreciate what you do bro
Just did a starter on this exact car last month. That damn excite wire bolt is so hidden in the back that it was such a pain to get to. As soon as I saw the 8' extension, I felt so much justification for doing the same thing
you’re exactly right man. you should never be like “ it’s too hard, fuck it” i feel like people who are like that don’t want to be like that but they don’t understand tbeyre the one who makes that choice.
Had the exact same thing with a outboard motor once out on the water pulled the cowling off and the starter motor was just hanging there I just tightened them up haha😂 what a relief
That top bolt might not be there because it snapped of from being seized in the block when the previous mechanic replaced it, I have had this happen on a couple civics I've worked on, time to bust out the drill and get to work if thats the case.
Absolutely hate that starter .. being my first time with that car would have ended up working for me was lifting it up enough to where I can get in on my side and since I have long arms I was able to get up in there through the spindle lol
I knew it couldn’t be locked up lol its a honda. Honda civics are pretty much bulletproof. Do your frequent oil changes and they will practically last a lifetime.
When I heard you crank it I was like 'I don't know man, sounds like when the starter bolts in my Celica walked out from years of neglect, and my started fell out' Lol, I didn't wanna jinx it and I know no one's gonna believe me...
Bro a butch a mechanic didn’t even put a bolt on my alternator lol 😂 found out when I don’t wanna pay for a timing belt and water pump did the job myself and found it was missing a bolt lol Honda are easy to work on
I've bought a few wrecker auction auto's. Mostly, self inflicted damage is common. I'm just south in the 405. What did you charge to tighten the Bolt from the Start? What did you charge to fix it and put the other bolt in? I mean. Is the other Bolt/Nut/Stud a Can of Worms?
Depends. I do free work for family and have never had issues like that. I just take my time with it though lol you can only have two: cheap, fast, or quality work. You want quality work for cheap, it won’t be fast. 😂
I know your pretty busy and have plenty of attention now but I’d like too get in contact for some advice on the mobile mechanic stuff because I’m trying to get into doing it for a job, if you would ever have any free time or even see this message I’d love to ask a couple questions lol but love the content besides the point!!
If you get more ratched extensions you can almost work from home!
lmfao
I laughed ngl lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Never can have enough sometimes it takes just the right length to get at what you need to.
Pairs well with swivel sockets ❤
@@gnarlock3927 you missed the joke.. nvm
Shade tree mechanic said “F that top bolt!”😂

If you don't have the extensions, the starters in those 8th gen civics suuuuuck.
Now THAT is an extension!
Probably didn’t use thread locker
Matt (Parker) is the most human, compassionate guy!
Not really. If he was he wouldn’t charge a diagnostic fee, since he makes $ off UA-cam views.
We’re all trying to make a living bro. Dude is honest and does care about his customers
He did the work and left the bolt out I bet hahahaha
The infamous buried Civic starter. The top bolt is a PITA.... but that's why you pay someone else to do it.
he was like yeah i think its pretty easy and I laughed these civic were compact in the bay lol
@@hundredlives3910 Tons of Honda stuff is like that, torture. Ever do the door lock actuator?
Lol that's why I miss the old Civics from the 90s and early 2000s
@NinaYo401 lol I have on my 8th gen it wasn't too bad, just annoying fiddling with it think it took 30 mins or so while watching vids.
I had to do it on mine and it was a PITA.
We all learned the importance of a torque wrench. lol
"remember that time we had winter???". Are u serious????
IT's texas. They don't understand the concept of winter.
Dude seemed super faded 😂

No
@@king_tut.Yes
Well here's the deal can't do that 😂
NO, it's super annoying!!
LMFAO such a troll. I would be so relieved if a mechanic made me do the same thing
that time we had the winter… that cold day
honda civic gang we up still
I just changed a starter on a hhr. Easy to get to, but that top Helen Keller bolt is a humbling experience.
thank you for your honesty and helpful attitude
We learned to pick our mechanics better
So here’s the deal
That's annoying AF!!
bro hit with that "nooo" at the beginning
“Oh! Dang-O!”
i loved when he let the customer find out the good news by letting him turn on the car himself, so cool of him. another great vid.
Guy can't keep his story straight. LOL
made himself look sketchy,lol.
Probly locked motor! Sounds like the guys not telling everthing lol.😂
All us technicians man, same type of ppl. The world’s a great place. Keep making it great, thank you!
The customers friend owes him for this visit…lol
This dude is a mechanic from god 😂😂. THE ONLY MECHANIC THAT CARES FOR THE PEOPLE
Not the only one..
Do you ever stop and think it's all because he is recording himself?! Being nice on camera gets more views than being dishonest.
you’re the right kind of guy with good knowledge and honesty, keep it up for we need people like you!!!
You are inside top 5 job industries.keep it going young man . Everyone one in the world needs a great car doctor.

People rarely check their oil level..
Matt, you are a stellar human being.
Great job!!!
I wish you were in Pittsburgh...I just bought a '11 Avalanche LTZ with a Paracedic Draw that seller didn't tell me about!
Makes perfect sense how is story lined up now after seeing what was wrong with it

What did I just see? Was that like 10 extensions connected together? 🤣

You already know buddy hits the limiter on that Honda on the reg
Huncho to tighten up a bolt 🤑
Bet that top bolt is still missing. Paying 100 for tightening one Bolt is nuts.
