  • The supercharger clutch went out on my 2019 Yamaha GP1800R while I was on the river🙄
    Had just dropped in and not even 10 minutes of riding I heard a back-fire then no power. Like half throttle was 15 MPH. Made it back but man was it nerv-racking.
    So now you all get to see how to install the newer version of the Yamaha supercharger clutch in a waverunner
    This should be the same for all the Yamaha Waverunners with the Supercharged 1.8L
    2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
    Including FZR and FX Cruiser SVHO

    ++ Good CLEAR video - MIRROR was a great addition to see all the bolt locations - missing a few steps on reassembling gears although it should be opposite of assembling.
    Not sure what you meant by holes going in the same way. They rotate don't they? So you mean in the same front-to-back location?
    I installed the shaft reinforcement - pretty easy. EXCEPT the OIL line thing is not nearly as easy as it appears. Sorta tricky to get the oil T installed and then the oil sender and then the wire to that. Not a lot of room to wiggle. Also use Teflon tape, not just sealant on the added line fittings. I used multiple layers to get it all secure. Instructions make it sound like you don't need it tight. BS.
    Just noticed my clutch is acting intermittent. Sorta weird. Only starts engaging after I try about 4 times and then the rest of the day it's fine. So your video helped me a lot getting ready. Might just do the bearing since my gears are fine.

  • @austinconway2428
    @austinconway2428 Рік тому +2

    Nice video, I got a 2023 year model. I’m pretty sure it’s the clutch. When your clutch was failing did you notice it being difficult to start up in the water? Basically didn’t want to start because it wasn’t making enough boost if that makes sense.

    • @QuadStar721
      @QuadStar721  Рік тому

      Thank you! When mine failed it was wide open throttle and failed very suddenly. It did start right up with the only issue being the power loss. Like so slow🐢🐢🐢
      I know Yamahas occasionally have a tough time starting after they warm up..
      Have you tried new spark plugs yet.

    • @austinconway2428
      @austinconway2428 Рік тому

      No I haven’t put new sparks plugs in. I thought it was the battery since it has Slow engine crank to it. I normally change my spark plugs at 10 hours intervals and I’m already at around 65 hours on engine. The plugs might be 5 hours over, I’ll give that a try. But even when it cranks and runs my blow off valve doesn’t sound the same as before like it doesn’t get enough air. I will change the spark plugs and see what that does. If that doesn’t fix it I will take the air filter off to get access to the inlet of the supercharger to see if I have any back spin. If I know the supercharger to spinning both ways thens it’s the clutch.

    • @austinconway2428
      @austinconway2428 Рік тому

      Well I changed the spark plugs and the battery still doing the same thing. Took it out today, drove for 30 minutes, and hopped in the lake. When getting back on the ski wouldn’t start. I tried starting it a hand full of times, after the 4th time it finally cranked, but weak. I believe its the starter now. You think a bad starter could cause performance issues as well?

    What a great DIY video on this repair man! Question for you. When you pull the rubber hose off of the front of the supercharger and spin the blades on the SC fan are those supposed to be able to spin left and right freely or does the clutch prevent it from spinning in one direction if the clutch is good?
