    The best detailed instructions on installation of the Kwikset Montara Model set yet. Thanks to your video, all my fears of installing this set myself has been completely wiped away and replaced with confidence. If I can't do it now, something is terribly wrong. Thank you much.

    Thank you for this video. Watched before installing the handle lock set. Very good instruction. I replaced another handle set and I lucked out and didn't need to drill a hole for the bottom, it lined up with the new handle.

    I was having problems getting the handle and doorknob together until I saw your video showing you turning the round piece of the handle. I like Kwikset but the printed instructions are not so good - to many pictures and not enough words. This video should be on their website. Thank you!!

    How do I get the lock orientation to turn the same way? My deadbolt locks to the left as it should, but the bottom handle lock turns right to lock. How do I switch that?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  Рік тому +3

      Hi Christina. Thank you so much for watching the video and leaving a question. Unfortunately, that is how locks work. You would think that they would both lock the same direction, but the two locks work differently. The deadbolt is just a simple mechanism of turning the lock to engage the bolt into the door jamb. The doorknob lock works by engaging pins / cylinders in a particular direction so that the doorknob is not allowed to turn. Because these two locks engage the locking mechanism in different ways, the key has to turn differently to achieve this. I'm not aware of any lock set out there that allows the key to operate in the same direction for both locks. I have found this issue to be the case with each set that I have installed regardless of the maker. I hope that this information helps.

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  2 місяці тому +2

      @@MrBababuwi Hi.Thank you for watching the video. These locks are called smart locks because they can all be re-keyed to one single key. It ends up being a really good thing when you have multiple exterior doors. As an example, I have six exterior doors on my home. Instead of paying a locksmith to rekey all six doors, I purchased these smart key door knobs when I remodeled my home and I was able to rekey them all to one single key by myself.👍

    If anyone comes across a loose door latch or deadbolt and wants a solid repair that doesn't involve glue, stick, putty, or that ugly metal sleeve that ruins the look of your door, ReSecure Latch is that answer. ReSecure Latch sits inside the door alongside the latch, resecuring your loose latch from the INSIDE. Great for property maintenance, homeowners, and DYiers.
    Works with brands like this Kwikset smart key lock set used in this video, and many other major door hardware brands.

    • @YouCanDoIt2

      Hi. Thank you for watching the video. This is what I know to be true about locks. Deadbolts are a simple mechanism with a simple twist to the right to engage the bolt into the jamb and then a simple twist to the left to disengage the bolt. Doorknob locks don't work that way. As far as I know, and for all the knob locks in my house, they all unlock by turning towards the jamb and lock by turning away from the jamb. I don't believe that there is much choice. That's how they are manufactured. If your lock only goes one way, I believe that it is designed by the manufacturer and cannot be changed. The only option for these types of door handles is to change it from right side to left side of the door, depending on your door swing, by twisting the barrel around. But the locking mechanism itself is built in and cannot be changed. I Hope that information helps.

    What size drill bit did you use to make the hole in the door?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  2 роки тому +5

      That's a great question! Sorry about not mentioning that. I went onto the Kwikset website and was surprised to see that they don't even mention anything about the size of drill bit. I would have to say a safe bet would be that I used a 5/16" drill bit. You do have the handle on the front side and a plastic decorative washer on the back side. so, if you drill the hole a little larger than the bolt, everything should still be well hidden for you. I hope this information helps! thank you so much for watching 👍

      Hi Pete....great question. I just pulled up the specs for you and it looks like the lock set is made for a standard. 1 3/4" inch thick door. The latch can be adjusted from 2 and 3/8 inch to 2 and 3/4 inches away from the edge of the for, but the door thickness is maxed out at 1 and 3/4 inches. I hope this information helps 👍

    I live alone. I own my own house. I was able to remove the Kwikset piece that is flushes against the door. I tried using a flat screwdriver to try and remove the round piece, but unfortunately, I have not been to remove the round piece no matter how hard I try. My door is only 2 years old. I have been watching/viewing several videos on UA-cam, but so far, I have NOT found one that can help me remove the round flat piece. The screws on my doorknob are hidden.

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  Рік тому +1

      Hi Nancy. If I am understanding you correctly, you are trying to remove the little round disc that is inside the house side of your door on the very bottom of the handle. If that is correct sometimes those do not pop off they actually unscrew. You might want to try unscrewing it. If that doesn't work look at the very bottom of the disc and see if there is a little slot that you can insert a flat head screwdriver into to pop it off. If I was to guess this sounds like it is a disc that you have to just put pressure on to and unscrew it. I hope this information helps you 👍

    I was trying to connect the bigger handle into the inside part inside and I cannot get it to fit properly. It fits if I put the big handle upside down. Lol I’m so mad right now. Trying to search for answers. Could’ve gotten it if my door opened the other way. Then I took apart the spring part and tried flipping the piece to the other side and it broke.

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  2 роки тому +1

      Oh no, that's horrible! I'm sorry to hear that. There is an option for making it fit in a left swing or right swing door. You needed to switch a button on the inside that allowed for it to be turned. At this point I don't know if it's broken beyond use.
