I was expecting small birds to land on her outstretched hands. I think it's great that she's experimenting and having fun. It would have been terrible if she had been taken directly from Holland's Got Talent and stuffed into the "classical" box. She's so talented, with so much potential, and so young it's very good to see her pushing her boundaries and stretching out to explore her abilities.

Yes, I think it is fair to surmise that when she decides to perform a song she has been over it many times and makes a conscious decision as to how she wishes to present it.

Valerie, spot on about the Disney princess comment. The song is actually from Beauty and the Beast.
Like when you wish upon a star which was part of a benefit for veterans this was also part of a benefit concert for people who are on the autism spectrum. So I think Amira chose and inspirational song suitable to the task.
Still waiting for your reaction to Amiras' performance of Sound of Music.
Also her performance of La Califfa from her 18th birthday concert. Unfortunately it's the live performance of the song but instead of showing her singing they have a video of Amira jumping around on the beach in South Africa but the song is really lovely.
    Always enjoy your reactions.

Thanks Valerie for that wonderful, expert opinion on various techniques etc. It had me enthralled. I’m waiting with baited breath for your reaction to Sound of Music. I feel Amira is choosing songs that are on the softer side & as such, are not hearing that powerful voice that she has produced in previous performances. I’m confident that we will be blessed with various music genres as she & her voice mature further. But, as you pointed out, all us Amira fans are happy with whatever she sings.
    Cheers, Graeme

She does favour inspirational songs. She is a very positive person. She often sings hymns, she has a video of Nearer my God to thee, from her birthday concert in March out, and has sung others, How great though art, for example. She also sings a lot of songs from movies, like this one, or the theme tunes. Again, La Califfa by Ennio Morricobe, is a recent release from her birthday concert.
She finishes school at the end of this year and has said she plans to do a tour with her new found freedom, before going to college. There are a couple in Cape Town, she likes the look of, which presumably offer music courses, but at the last interview I heard, she hadn't decided which one to opt for.
She seems to be quite versatile at the moment, perhaps time will settle her on a particular path. I just hope the way she chooses will prove satisfying to her and hopefully provide joy to her fans.

The last place Amira should go is that hell hole New York City. Thankfully Amira has chosen a school much closer to home. Amira sings what makes her happy. You obviously didn't see Amiras 18th Birthday Concert, a new level of perfection.

However, Mexico City and St Louis, Missouri, to mention two cities famous for gated communities, you would know that the crime rate in these cities is much higher than New York City, providing that you did your homework.

I see a lot of comments from people I know - so here's my contribution: I've followed Amira since her first audition, and right from that start, it was obvious that she could control her vibrato completely. This was startlingly obvious in her performance of "O Mio Babbino Caro" in the first "Classics is Groot" concert in 2016; she started with a fast vibrato and slowed it right down at the end. We saw her synchronise her vibrato with that of Corlea Botha in 2017, when they sang the Flower song from "Lakme", and every time since then that she sang a duet - so it's no surprise that she can stop it completely when she wants to. I love her interpretation of operatic arias; and her performance of "La Vergine degli Angeli" in which she was singing with the microphone just as far away as one saw in the "Pearl Fishers" duet with Kaufmann and Hvorastovsky, she used an appropriate slow vibrato - you should really review that. You are right on the mark when you say that she can do anything she wants to. Now, as to whether she may want to go on the opera stage, I have to ask "What opera stage?" - because it looks to me as though the combined effect of the financial viability of opera houses that seat only 2500 versus the vast audiences that Andre Rieu and others managed to achieve by intelligent use of amplification, and Covid 19, has pretty much spelled the end of the traditional opera stage. As far as I know, only the Opera house at Baden-Baden (Germany) was viable without a government subsidy, pre-Covid. The combined effect of Covid plus the inflation that is rampant at present, will cause those subsidies to dry up - but nobody seems to realise that as yet (though I suspect that Amira does realise it). The World is turning, and the Internet promises to make audiences at least two orders of magnitude larger possible. She has done three concerts by Internet streaming. That has closed for the moment; but the problems with it (mostly due to the difficulty of paying internationally) can presumably be overcome. So I would expect Amira to acquire as wide a range of capability as possible - and I suspect that's what she is planning, in Cape Town, in 2024.

Thank you for a great reaction, and this is always clear when Amira sings: She does not choose to sing in one style, like a classical style, and then sing all genres of music in the same style even when it is not applicable - Amira sings the different kinds of music with the technique and tone befitting the musical style. it would sound strange if she sang a Disney song in a classical style, yet she sings without any strain as you said. She is going to study music and then she can choose to study opera - I would also love to see her singing in my favourite operas, but as strict requirements are set by opera coaches which might require her to be cloistered for many years, I prefer her beautiful voice and wonderful personality to be accessible to all of us who adore her performances. Yet she might be able to study opera without suffering the attacks of these opera masters - let's hope for the best.

You describe that dilemma very well Marilise. Exactly my feelings. I love the opera arias when she sings them, but I like them as treasures scattered among her variety of songs! And she appeals to so many with her variety of other songs. Also her personal stage presence and song arrangements are delightful which I think is another major element in her appeal. One senses that she does things her own way, and each of her videos are in some way unique.

Hello Valerie . What a pleasure see you again to our princess Amira . Some times , the times of the artists or the singers are not the same times that our wishes . You hope that Amira becomes in a soprano of career , with studio and heard training , and that she perform in the Operas . We want that Amira become in a superstar most famous and popular . . . and Amira think in build more and more playgrounds for the children and help to the poor people . Amira know that she still is very young and that still there is time for one serious career . Now she enjoy to sing what she wants . But if you wanna watch her song most operatic ,please react to La califfa and Neerer my God to thee ( from the straming concert celebrating the 18 birthday of Amira in 2022 ) and La vergine degli angeli and The Lord s prayer ( from the Christmas streaming concert 2022 ) And still I keep waiting your reaction to Amira , THE SOUND OF MUSIC MEDLEY 2019 ( Julie Andrews is back )

It's interesting. Amira's voice does sound lighter here but... at her 18th birthday concert in March this year, she finished with 'Ebben? Ne andro lontana' from La Wally... and it was amazing how her voice was so different and to me just sounded made for arias! It was gorgeous, richer, stronger, certainly not light like here. She seems to be able to switch from Disney to an opera aria at the flip of a switch. No point to look for that aria though, she has not made it available on UA-cam. Hopefully it will be, or on her next CD if there is one.

She have to be able to sing smooth as here. Her true operatic songs tends to get quite few views, so specialising in that kind of harsh voice is a career ending, unless she is satisfied with a narrow audience.

But I know that would probably be 5-7 years away if it ever happened ...because she is being sensible and not singing too many of them yet. And it will be interesting to hear how her voice sounds in 5 years time.

You are talking about music schools like Julliard but they are typical fee +80K USD one year times 3. Who can afford that amount except with wealthy parents/sponsor. Operatic wise Amira now is closer to Dramatic Soprano than Lyric. But in my ears her voice fits naturally best with musical type of music. Imo heading for stiff, obscure, no future serious opera is a waste of time and talent and wont do anything good with her sound but rather the opposite, as already proven in some videos with low quality operatic vocals. Better leave that opera genre for the ones with big sturdy voices, who can´t sing well anyway. Serious opera has to deal with what is left from the most aspiring young singers and talents. Do the best they can with them and as a consequence, today, serious opera has almost no good singers out in the real competitive singing world.
Anyway, Amira decides and does what she wants and should, as she already clearly stated ON HER OWN.

As a child prodigy Amira was top notch. I believe in order to remain at that level great singers must be great story tellers. This particular song choice is reminiscent of a Julie Andrews Sound Of Music performance. Without the feeling. With no disrespect to Amira, it was flat and from the story telling point of view wasn't very interesting. A bit more animated along with appropriate facial expression would have kept me at my seat's edge. It appeared that she wasn't thrilled with any of it. Almost stoic. My favorite by her is Little Drummer Boy which contained all the elements missing here. Perhaps her advancing teen years is a contributing factor to this lackluster performance. She is such a terrific vocalist I'm giving her this one glitch amongst many perfect presentations. I will ask you to review Drummer Boy. I think you will clearly experience the difference in Amira at 16 and Amira at 17.
