Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening, and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.
I just love how you plan a project and then look around your place and try to use what you already have. I admire that mindset so much!
Ditto.
I like that you alway find exactly what looks right laying around and repurpose it . ❤
What a build! I like seeing your wheels a turning as you figure things out, how you remember where things are is a mystery, especially when what you want is usually at the bottom of a pile! I really enjoyed today with the breezes and doves cooing in the background.
Recycling at its finest. You’ve done a fantastic job, all round Sean. I know your wife and son are so proud of you ! Always the outside of the box thinker and gentleman. 😊
Thanks 👍
Your property has its own small reclamation yard! Can’t wait to see the finished result. HQ was right in her observation ❤
I really think that it would be money well spent to get the same pavers as you have started with in front of the other cottages
I would stick with the same pavers as before Sean and use the small tiles elsewhere
I totally agree 👍
Just by removing the tree made it look so much better!
I vote big slabs as its more consistent with the other ones. Save the smaller ones for the greenhouse. Looking good though!
You are extraordiner!!!
Another very interesting project, Sean! Well done. Looking forward to seeing the finished transformation of the amazing patio garden area.
What a difference a little dirt and time make, just amazing, thank you for sharing.
Those smooth tiles look more suitable for inside work.
Yes, they look out of place there.
yes, use bigger tiles..
I think those tiles are going to be a hazzard for your paying guests in wet weather just my opinion sorry
Hi Sean’s World. Always enjoy your videos
Love what u r doing. As u r asking, I think using the same slabs u have used for the other cottages would look nicer xxx
Well done and much better Sean. I must say I am with Sam and my OCD living on a building site for years would have worked overtime! (laughing at myself here). Yet having said that at least the roof tiles are nicely place hahaha.... HOWEVER, I admire the hard work that you do brother and just having a laugh together :)
Great work again Sean! It's always good to re-use what you have. Well done!💋
The front of the cottages have come a long way Sean from the day you first started. You should show a before and after shot of the entire front. It looks so cleaned up and inviting now. I know you have some tiles in front....but it still looks so good!!
I love the idea of repurposing stuff Sean but I like consistency too do I think you should go with slabs as that will match what you have along the length of the buildings already.
I think it’s going to be a very pretty patio that compliments the beautiful stone building. Fun video. Thank you Sean. ❤
I like those tiles for the seating area. Yes they're smaller, but they add some nice color to the area. Nice find Sean. Mind your back please.
Sean, the tiles looks really nice on your “new” patio. I hope you have enough to finish! I must say, you are a good husband to do what Sam would like done! When the wife is happy, all is right with the world! Love from Pennsylvania, USA💕🌷🐻
What a transformation! I love your creativity.
Sean, this is such a neat transformation idea. It looks much better already. You always have such good ideas.
Cheers
I love the red tiles!
Cheers from California
The stones are
Perfect for the
Patio Sean. Nice
Color.😊
Love what you do Sean! The tiles are a great choice as they bring out the lovely red tones in the stone walls of the building. Good job. Lokking forward to seeing it finished. Well done 👏👏👏
Excellent episode! Thank you all! Be well, stay safe all. 😊❤🎉👍💖🥰
Looks really nice 😄
Sean, it would look better if you kept the path consistent by using the same paving stones as you already have in place
Its great you reuse when possible ❤
I am on board with using the small tiles. I just love watching your propblem solving skills.
Loved this video thank you ❤
Best
Not very keen on the small tiles Sean. They aren't in keeping with the old cottage. I understand the need to re-use things but they'd be better in the greenhouse. Keep up the good work. 😊
Enough to do greenhouse aswell
The color of the tile doesn't complment the soft colors of the stone...in fact it really clashes
Sean I love the patio the tiles look right and the whole space is so much bigger it's great 😊
Yes Sean the architectural elements of the end cottage are awesome, right down to the grated window. I just love the way it looks.
Nice project, Sean. So glad you removed the elderberry tree - I remember you had a wasp issue with it last year. Can't wait to see what you decide to do. Cheers!
I wouldnt use those small tiles .the other larger tiles youve been using would look better .
Elderberry Bush with berries equals Elderberry Wine. Aww geez its a bugga bein old. I remember and old black and white movie from the 1944. Arsenic and Old Lace. Cary Grant I believe.
I do my projects this way too. I prefer to use what I have and my friends know what casts offs they have to send my way. I tuck them away knowing I’ll find a use for them at some point!
More plants to soften the edges will improve the look and fit perfectly with the cottage. I love the aesthetic of the rustic European look.
Wow Sean you do keep busy!!
I think HQ will approve, gets the patio done and uses up a pile of tiles getting them out of the way. Well done!
You make it look so easy Sean!
You can replant the elder by putting cuttings with at least two nodes on them in the ground where you want an elder hedgeto grow. Great job!
Hi Sean ,following you for a long time.I am jealous when you go to a boulangerie to get croissants and coffee. But if I can make a suggestion, please use the beautiful small tiles with cement ,inside and get larger tiles or stones for outside. For more
stability and durability. But what do I know.
I do like the recycling that you do. I always scout around the garden, back of shed etc to see what I have that can be utlised. Will you have enough tiles to extend across the side patio later, from that path? PS: what is "heighth" 🤣😂😁
Ivy is blight near home trees or garden
Great vid,, love DiY landscaping,.. I did my buddys back yard 20 years ago, still holding up. Keep on keepin on!
I think the small tiles and wooden beams will turn into a beautiful, unique patio that's goes perfectly with the stone building.
Love the tiles and beams. X
Amazing!
Greetings Sean.
Didn't Tom get the rock garden planted in time for you to start harvesting rocks for all your projects. I have my own parking space at the building supply. If you leave the roof on the lean to you will have a covered patio.
What a sweet little window with 20 panes!
PG Tips Good job done looks so much better well done 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks 👍
Oh my… what would we do if Sam wasn’t there to keep you in check Sean…lol
That's a nice old tool/implement you have in the doorway behind the area you are working. Expect no less from you!!
🙂❤Enjoyed the process.
Looks great
Great Job!!!
5:05; can you spray it with some 30 % vinegar? it worked on the violently invasive bermuda grass that tried to conquer my garden here in oklahoma.
victoriam invasionis!
Will look much better to see the rock wall, of the building side, instead of the “shack looking” lean to. Been waiting for that to come down.
Me too but for now it's important dry storage
Was that the dolly or your joints squeaking when you moved the beam? lol😅🤣😂
Good one.☺️
I'd like to have one like you in Brazil. Extraordiner. Look's extremely beautiful
Sean, I love how you go shopping in your outdoor garden and come up with what you need. The patio will be beautiful when you are done.❤
I have admit I don’t really like those tiles there, they’re too small in comparison to everything else around them, they dont have the rustic natural look you’ve used everywhere else, and they just look like indoor tiles. But they are free so I guess that’s a big plus in their favour!
Thanks
Hi Adm thank you 😊 that's very kind
I thought you were using those tiles in the cottage? unsure those will cope well outside though and won't match with your other paving work. I had thought the end bits were actually where you lived and it wasn't empty. Having the ground raised a bit will protect the cottage from flooding. This work will at least help you on your way when you are renovating this half of the property.
Save the tiles for the greenhouse. Just put in chat/shingle for now and keep your eyes open for a farmer or builder with excess rocks.
Not as common as l would hope
You must keep HQ happy! Orders from on high take precedence over everything else. So funny!
I think your Commanding Officer has a good eye Sean. I see things like that and it niggles until I do it. Being 81 years old I have to pick my days but I get things done, sometimes with some help from my Brother and SIL.
Just wondering why you didn't pull out the elderberry roots. Would that have damaged the stone wall?
You get so much done! But be careful of your back, please.
If the farmer’ s having the clay you should see if you can have the bread oven !!!!🏴🇬🇧
You are such a hard worker, such fantastic ideas, love how your recycling materials you already have, you are an inspiration! Thank you ❤😊
The elderij flower is good to stop the mosquito's!
when you don't dig it out with all the roots he will come back soon!
So much fun watching you find just the right piece from your property!
Must be very satisfying to stand back and see how nice the whole length of the drive looks…..oh my goodness those tiles are absolutely gorgeous!
I like the small tiles .but makes th job a bit longer though Sean . I dare say Sam will decide😂😘
H Q is on target!!
I love how you reuse and repurpose.
Take care of that back Sean...gonna be lovely😊
You have a mixed bag of likes & dislikes on the tiles well
I really like the tiles & the colour 👍🤗☕🍰💐☕🍰
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Thanks so much 😊
I like the small tiles; they add a spot of color.
Putting down a tarp and putting the elder branches on it, then drag them out of the way, making one trip instead of several trips.
I planted an elder this year. Can’t wait for it to grow and flower. This is the first time for me. I didn’t notice you pulling the roots out. Will the elder grow back?
Possibly if l don't pour vinegar salt and detergent on it
No doubt about you Sean you can make something
Out of nothing good for you having all of the left overs that have been stored over the years
This small patio area is going to look great when finished. I do love the tiles you have there currently as well. A nice oasis when it comes to looking out at the sunrise or sunset drinking tea with friends and/or family. Great job Sean and have a great day
Sean, I love the way you as you say " bits and bobs ". You find things and put them together to make something beautiful 😊
Glad to see the Minister of Home Affairs stepped in and ordered the patio remediation. Hate to see you get fired, Sean.
I'm hooked, your videos popped up on my feed. You sir, are a incredible builder. What a terrific "up-cycled" video. The cottage is just beautiful. To create this patio.... I love it 🎉
Hi there 😊 thank you for your kindness much appreciated see you soon
Looks very nice with the tills.
Everything looks great. Lot of hard work, it shows
I like the small tiles, they add a nice pop of color.
Another Great Video Sean with good content and already the front is looking good although not finished - take it easy with heavy lifting ❤
Love the little tiles for the terras❤
Great job recycling!!
I like the tiles.
Paint the doors same color blue as others.
