You say it's 300,000£ but it's also all of your hard work, the materials, the septic tanks, the workforce even with all of the wonderful volunteers... The furniture, the landscaping - I would love to have an episode of the math behind these four years. Cause you all seem to be not only great, hardworking, talented and skillful people, but also good financial managers to be able to tackle it all ❤❤❤

I planted 150 trees in my garden, small trees but in clumps or for coppicing. I would suggest small saplings bare root and dip them in an enriched mud to 'praline' them as they say here. I had never imagined that they would grow so well and so fast and I lost none. I did prepare the holes really well, dug deep made sure the earth was mobile, put in well decomposed compost, 'corne torrifié' and dried blood depending. Chicken manure also. They grew much bigger and better than the bigger expensive trees I bought thinking that THEY would fill in fast. You could also mix in some fruit trees so you get a return. I would not suggest a 'murier' as the mess is out of this world but figs and pears make interesting trees; Around the edge of my land towards the road I planted forsythia, double lilac, buddlea, snow ball and other flowering trees and shrubs instead of a plain run of same plants. They all grew together and made a lovely hedge. I did plant a varigated Portuguese Laurel to one side and pruned it had to make it into a tight shape, took three years as it is a fast grower and can be pruned hard. We had a whole row of mirabelles on one side and to hide the car port I planted sticks of willow that grew fast and I coppiced them at a metre hight each year. Cost almost zero as you can find willow most places and any branch will grow if stuck in the ground. There is a lovely white rambling rose called 'Wedding day' that I trained over wires through some of the trees making bowers, lovey rose.

Only reason I came back to the UK is because I got cancer and I was in France alone with all my family back in the UK. Loved my time in France in the countryside, but value being with family more. Always seems to be the need for family that brings the Brits back home.

I looked it up, 10 hectares is about 24 acres, thats a lot of land for the price you paid. You’ve certainly increased the value of your property with all the work you’ve been doing. That large field (acreage), you could lease to a farmer, keep a few cows and not have to worry too much about mowing. We have almost 30 acres, most of it covered in trees, but the parts that are bare, it’s a job keeping it mowed. Continued success with your home, it is certainly becoming a beautiful little piece of paradise, and thanks to all your family and friends who have helped along the way.

The property is absolutely beautiful! I am jealous of Paula and Pete having a cottage there! This property was SO worth the investment.

If the old farm portion ever comes on the market, I hope you are able to tie the place back together, And an orchard would be a great addition.
