Hey everyone! Color me baffled! With up to date firmware, the backlight system was doing just fine and blooming was … well, it was there, but not as bad as I was expecting based on some of the horror tales I’ve heard told. Granted, I WAS at Samsung. So we will see what’s up once one does get sent out. I did get some really funky readings, though. And THAT will be getting its own video soon. Be well everyone!

Caleb, I think this is another example of why you guys really need to start buying TVs from retailers, instead of waiting for manufacturers to send you stuff or fly you around. Besides, it takes away any perceived issue with saying nice things or getting hand-picked samples.

Interesting you only got 1200 nits. Was that at D65 or default white point? Either way sounds like a dud panel. Rtings and I got over 2000 OOTB, and while rtings doesn't measure post calibration, at D65 on the one I did was 1700.
Also, 144hz is sadly only on the 43in and 50in models.

@@sunshinecycling If it is not effected by the local dimming bug, then mostly yes (brightness is more or less equal on them, around 1600-1700nits). But right now the local dimming bug issue is too wide spread. The ones affected by the bug will have poor blooming control.

Always appreciate your fair and balanced approach with your review process. Most people will be completely happy with most of the tvs on the market right now. Even last years models would be acceptable to most people. There is a small subset of consumers chasing after that perfect tv that just does not exist. There are only imperfect options that fit different potential buyers for different reasons.

The QN90B is a very good TV so far. Bright as hell.
Blooming is so minimal that at times it comes pretty close to OLED. The black level is beautiful and deep black. Don't be fooled, this one really comes close to OLED!
The sound of the TV itself is very good for a reasonably flat TV. Dolby Atmos is great.
Convenient Home menu with clear place for your favorite apps. It all works intuitively and quite smoothly.
The Tv comes with a very handy and light remote that charges itself with a solar cell or via usb c. So no more searching for batteries.
The build quality is very good as we have come to expect from Samsung. Finally the central support is back.... A very heavy solid metal support.
    In short...here a very satisfied Samsung QE65QN90B user. 😉

Yeah, I feel like the mainstream TV community is very biased and they make it sound like OLED is the end all be all. So after owning an LG CX for several years and being quite disappointed with its picture and motion I bought an LG C2 to see if anything had improved. Well, it hadn't really improved in the areas I care about, so I sent it back. I considered mini-LED TVs, but you hear so much negativity and talk of problems with blooming and dirty screen effect. This made me avoid them for a while. I thought, "well, if OLED really is the best modern display technology and I don't like the picture and motion it offers I guess I'm just going to stay with my plasmas (and CX OLED)".
But I decided to take a chance on the QN90B and I'm really glad I did. It has been a massive, pleasant surprise. I like it so much more than my CX. Blacks are practically the same, except it handles near black shades much better, and the colors and motion are far better.

Great review! But I don’t understand how Rtings got 2100 nits and you’re only getting 1200. Rtings tested their TV in movie mode so maybe that’s.the difference? I have a Sony 930e and it could hit around 1500 nits peak and my qn90b is noticeably brighter so 1200 nits seems really low. The 2100 nits Rtings got seems correct to me based on my experience with it vs my Sony. The qn90b can get super bright.

      How is your gaming experience

    • @TVNorway
      @TVNorway Рік тому +1

@@secondopinion89 Best gaming experience really on any tv on market but some seldom/rare games it’s a white flash, but guess sometimes game related as I seen same on QN95a/b but been improved though.
All in all a great tv, but like I said before if the QN95B felt like a monitor like this I would gone for that.
It’s hard to go any other way because of this aspect but picture quality is on top too, though I feel qled is very close, both got their advantages but it’s hard go back even if I feel safer and almost as good without burn in issues.
So all in all right now I think it’s great but advice would not push over 2200 for 65”, it’s new tech and best for gaming but it’s some unknown, here we don’t get burn in warranty which I would recommend if you can get it.
Bright side no reflection issues (way better then most so don’t get how people measure this), it’s very bright and first tv since old days that’s clean.
I’m pleased with it but had frustrations through firmwares but I see imo improvements and ootb just as good as Sony almost on newer firmware so it don’t need to be a hassle for the average person, because it has been a work with months but I think it’s getting close where it should be.
So no regrets here, really only QN90/95B that could make me rethink but I haven’t tried U8H.
Sony too heavily priced but also a good option but can’t justify price.
So right now everything is plotted in and looks better then any tv in most games, I love the movie and serie watching too, great quality from hd and up upwards which is most important nowadays.
      Edit; I use S95b

3:50 that is not "peak" brightness though. That was SUSTAINED you were talking about. A gazillion people with the tools have measured it and gotten "peak" (not sustained) meaning it falls off after a few seconds, at 1800nits. Even higher in the more dynamic settings and using all the light cranking stuff.

My Tizen experience was marred though as it came corrupted and took me forever to fix, I also didn't like the layout or how you navigate the options. I ended up just hooking up a Android TV dongle and used that for most of my streaming content. Eventually I got a Sony A8H and I love that tv. Now I will say that Tizen looked good, but I felt it wasn't as functional as I would have liked and it was like I kept tripping over myself trying to figure out its' hurdles as it wasn't as intuitive as it could have been.

Don't touch!! Got a 65" qn90b and the picture is amazing. HDR is the best. But mine has a burbling sound coming from it that turns to a buzz when bright images are on screen. IE, it seems to be related to power draw as it happens when volume is muted. It's quite audible when sound is low like in morning when I'm up first in the house. After weeks of being asked to email various videos and audio files to Samsung they turned round and said it was within the design parameters if the appliance. Bullshit, I've had Samsung and Sony TV's for years without any issues. Samsung's may be a bit cheaper than other premium brands but they're rubbish, and their after sales service is shocking. I'll never buy another Samsung product again and won't be getting the s23 ultra I'd planned to. Had to get that off my chest I feel cheated!

I see what you mean, but even as a guy who wants top PQ in a Non-OLED TV, for my situation, and had enough cash saved for an 85" QN95B, I still went ahead yesterday with ordering an 85" QN90B.
Because several people who attended the 2022 Value Electronics Flat Panel Shootout, back in July (who also run UA-cam channels that review TVs) were very disappointed with the performance that Samsung's 65" QN95B displayed at that competition, since they had expected the 95B to at least show a small PQ improvement over the 90B, a TV they all have rated quite highly. But despite careful tweaking of the QN95B by the Samsung technicians who were there at the shootout, though the QN90B, itself, was not included in the competition, those UA-cam reviewers who know it very well, said that it's more expensive sibling, the QN95B, was unable to display picture quality that looked even a bit better than the PQ that they've gotten out of the QN90B. So their advice is, unless someone needs the One Connect box that's included with the 95B, or its slightly improved sound compared to the 90B, potential buyers would be wasting their money if expecting to get improved picture quality compared to the 90B. And I can believe that's true since people who have digital memberships with Consumer Reports, like me, have access to CR's extensive ratings of TVs (including over 3 dozen test reports for 2022 & 2021 models of 65" TVs) which gave the 65" QN90B an overall rating of 84, which was the highest among Non-OLED TVs (the Sony X-95K mini-LED 65" model scored 78) and even the top scoring OLED, Samsung's S95B, just scored 86.

The movement is clearer and more alive feeling than the motion on the OLEDs. Especially if you use black frame insertion, which by the way is excellent on this TV.
