I grew up near Sioux City and was fortunate to see Tommy in his early years. From his high school bands and sit ins, although his "name" hadn't grown yet. Then I got to see Zephyr twice. Once with Tommy and Johnnie leading the band. Candy was absent. When I moved to Denver, late 1972-73 for art school...Energy was frequently playing a 3.2 bar in Denver, Dirty John's. I went with several other hometown Iowa boys whenever they played. Totally hypnotic and wonderful, especially up front in a smaller place. We eventually connected with Tommy and our shared Iowa roots and a session hanging out back. Soon after, he went onto the James Gang.
Tommy bolin is before my time. My aunt had tommy bolins albums with girls on front cover japanesse?? She had everything. Years later she left record collection at my dads place backyard barn sometime in late 70s. (milk crates full records endless. Great condition.Music going back to Late 50s through 70s music. Some stuff i still cant find on youtube. Sometime around 83, 84 those albums were stolen! Figures I had point what i was going to say but i forgot. My brother and i started jamming playin during 80s destroyer later that changed whitelace. But destroyer was tighter during 80s preppies short hair was in . Not us we had length hair. Preppie chics didnt dat guys with long hair. Changed when they got drunk at our parties. Local bands playing clubs made more money john wait, (Huey louis and the news) We ended up with all the high school girls. Nonstop I forgot what i was gonna say..It was about Tommy, bolin (other than Come taste the band deep purple) i never really listen to tommy bolin unti early 2000s My friend brought box set of recorings. From tommys brother released (tommys brother used to play in black oak Arkansas. im sure you already know this) But i read somewhere tommy hitchhiked with his guitar back then long qgo and ended in colorado. Boulder? I could be wrong? But it said tommy was walking 'freezing cold' overheard live band jamming practicing coming from a house. Tommy walked up started knocking until they heard knocking. They answered and let Tommy inside , by the next day tommy took over became their new guitarist (the other guitarplayer left) this band 'energy'
Yeah I rember seeing them play at my sweet lass a 3.2 bar in Denver my older sister was married to Jeff cook the lead singer I was a skinhead punker with a drunk and bad attitude towards this band and caused problems fights act .. looking back u was a real numbskull and should have been nicer ...I played hardcore for several years and wish I'd been nicer I could have possibly learned a thing or too instead of getting 86,ed from the club and charged with assault for beating up some disco boys .. lol. I be Koo now and look down on violence but still like to go backwards in a mosh pit . While watching my son's band raise hell !
Wow, Tommy’s early days! 😳 Goose-bumpy!! I miss him so much!!!
So ahead of their time. Fabulous
He never loses your attention, so easy to listen to whether it's fusion or rock.
Tommy la vita è stata crudele con te. Ma tu sei stato un grande con Noi😢❤❤

Energy was the perfect name to encapsulate Tommy's playing into the dynamic force of sound they made for the era...
