Alphonse's work with Larry Coryell is legendary amongst 70s Jazz Rock Fusion lovers , This is no exception and is just a delight to enjoy. Tommy and Gary Moore when he played with Jon Heisman were two of the best rock players to do Fusion . I loved growing up with music of this caliber. Pure Dynamite.
Somehow I got on a Tommy Bolin kick and started digging around YT and found this. I had completely forgotten this record(lost it, along with many others, in a fire years ago), what a great surprise to re-discover it after all these years. '70's jazz fusion was some of the most amazing stuff ever recorded. I was lucky enough to see a lot of great shows live back then: RTF, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, 11th House, Tony Williams, Maynard Ferguson, etc. Thanks for posting this track, brings back a lot of great memories.
Thanks so much John! More drumming at The Alphonse Mouzon Homepage. www.tenaciouysrecords.com/Purchase_Music.html Tommy Bolin (RIP) was an amazing guitarist and friend.
#1 Alphonse Mouzon are you aware that John Bonham considered you his influence. Davis writes that one evening John Bonham was 1 floor above him and was jamming along with you to side 2 of Mind Transplant. Just then the needle fell into the groove and began side two of Mind Transplant. Within a minute, my room started to shake again. The faux Monet water lilies on the wall were vibrating. That’s when I realized what was happening. My room was directly underneath John Bonham’s suite, and he had set up a drum kit and was playing along to Alphonse Mouzon’s rhythms, which could be described as an extremely swinging fusillade. Here was John Bonham showing me his favorite musical influence. I sat there in my vibrating bed and listened to the loudest drummer in rock play along to the loudest drummer in jazz. Universal appeal and talent blended so well as to resonate it's own Creation with unreasonable abandon!! Collective Energy Indeed!! The Breadbasket of Fine Licks!
Oh man I wish you could get this on spotify or iTunes. Absolute legend and no one really knows his name. Someone should change that and put a catalog of his best guitar solo albums
Shame on all those Blackmore fans who were jeering him in 1976, they didn't know how lucky they were to see and hear him. He was in Jon's opinion more fluid than Ritchie, especially on blues things. His take on Lazy was fantastic, but he was bored on Smoke On The Water. I think Purple should have continued their Stormbringer direction, Tommy was better with funk/r'n'b. I have always been disappointed that Ritchie never played anything from Come Taste The Band. Some people have no respect.
What do you want to say? That the world is bad and you have no idea? Blackmore has no rights to Come Taste the Band !! Evil Ian Gillan has never sung Burn either !! How disrespectful is that? And then these bad people who have no idea .. Dont cry for argentina
It's funny because before I was typed in Alphonse Mouzon in the search bar on youtube I was going to type in Meters and lo and behold at around 12:30 they break into a Meters tune Cissy Strut. Talk about a coincidence.
Really dug this album Alphonse. I told you before that I saw you and Larry Coryell with Miroslav Vitous at the Royal Oak theatre outside Detroit. It would have maybe been a better fit with perhaps John Lee or someone on bass. Vitous didn't seem to mesh well. Lived you and Larry though.
Thank you Dorne. Guitarist Larry Coryell and I have a supergroup called MILES SMILES together with leader/trumpeter Wallace Roney, bassist Ralph Armstrong and sometimes with saxman Rick Margitza and organist Joey De Fracnesco. www.tenaciousrecords.com/Purchase_Music.html
I asked our agent AMI in NYC to book more gigs in the USA. People want to hear us here in America. We tour a lot in Europe. www.tenaciousrecords.com/Purchase_Music.html
Everything Tommy did was magical!
Nothing truer than this!!!
What could have been…
He could play any style of music.
Pure talent.

Incredible Jam, from Santanesque Latin groove to The Meters what a great recording !
Holy s**t! Thank you Alphonse!!!
Tommy had licks, no one else could/can play ...
Allan Holdsworth was another...best living guitarists may be John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola...
RIP Alphonse...God bless
Vinnie B It was kinda freaky reading this and then scrolling down and finding the great man himself had been commenting here too. RIP.

Tell Tommy hi ! Rock on !

+Steve Percoco The way they transitioned into Cissy Strut, it sounded so perfect and natural! Awesome!
thank you!!
WOW!
Tommy Bolin so far ahead of his small time Thank you Jeff Beck for acknowledging it
What an awesome jam. I can't think of any other Cissy Strut/Ain't No Sunshine/I Shot the Sheriff medley
it don't get much funkier than this
great nod to the meters! #cissystrut
Nice segue into 'I Shot the Sheriff' @ 17:55.
Killer
Reminds me of the Mothers from around same time. Maybe earlier, like "Chunga's Revenge". Wonder if Tommy was influenced by that..

Yeah I was checking that out. Ralph Armstrong on bass. I would love to hear that live. Any plans for a U,S tour?

Cool. I think that you'd do really well.
I always laugh when I read comments about how Tommy Bolin was so "underrated " . Magazine rankings seem to mean way too much to people. Just listen .
oly crap!!
