It is quite flexible when first made and tends to dry out after a day or so.

I have a question won’t the lace get hard and brittle after a certain amount of time I have done lace before and I have found that it gets hard and brittle from one Day to the next to the point where it just crumbles into little pieces if I touch it won’t that happen with that lace as well
Juanita, ALL lace pieces are subject to drying out and becoming brittle if you live in a dry climate or in a heated kitchen or home. You will find that in warmer summer months when the humidity is higher that they will not break. During our dry winter months, I place the finished lace pieces or the entire mat ( once the lace is dried) into a large plastic bag. Add a small, damp paper towel in the bag but NOT touching the lace. By the next morning, all the lace pieces should be very flexible again.It's a simple matter of re-hydrating the lace pieces so that are manageable.

No, lace and fondant are very different products.
the cake to your left with the rose gold tier...what was used to do the rose gold color, is that glitter, sprinkles, sugar?

You say you are using a cardboard mat in the oven. I've never seen black cardboard and I would think it would burn in the oven...Have you coated your cardboard with something? I went to global sugar art.com but they don't sell it. When I've painted cardboard in the past it curls up...yours stayed flat.
I normally just use 1/2 sheet cardboard cake pads and I use them over and over again. They will not burn or curl.
