I’m a retired mechanic JR, and I do very much like watching your Videos! Your patience and control in diagnosis of problems on ALL the different models of cars You repair is amazing. Thanks for making clean and intelligent videos to watch.
Great result and will be even better when detailed. I've had 2 Jags and from my experience they are super fussy about battery voltage but hopefully the outstanding codes are not too serious. Re: oil level, get the engine up to temperature, wait 10 minutes then check.
Oh, that supercharger whine~ Was wondering if clearing the codes would help, seems like it did for the most part. Looking forward to seeing this car properly cleaned up and sorted!
Very happy it is nearly all sorted. I've not had this as a big issue myself but the forums seem to think the F Type is pretty sensitive to bad fuel and a lot of people suggest using injector cleaner every third or forth fill up. Certainly mine runs slightly sweeter after running a bottle of injector cleaner through it.
I just drove it home, read your comment, turned it back on and boom oil level is right on the money 🔥🔥🔥 I must have tried 10 times and it never gave me a reading before.
I was literally just about to comment the same when I saw your post. I have an F-Type R with the 5.0 V8 and it works the same way. Car has to be off for at least 10 minutes before it'll let you check.
Watching now but glad whatever it was you got it figured out. The KISS principle tends to apply here but having that uber scan tool very helpful for you. I have a midrange Autel but it reads everything on my 06 Charger RT so works for me.
FYI. Whenever you plug into the OBD2 port of the F type you can mess up some of the electronics. It creates an electrical drain in one of the computers that will kill the battery (wouldn't be a Jag without some electrical quirk, right?). The way you get around this is after plugging into the OBD2 port, disconnect the battery for ~30 sec and whatever problem the OBD2 connection created is reset. I disconnect the ground to the car under the truck liner, not the battery itself as the access is easier. I killed a couple of batteries until I learned the battery disconnect trick. Nice series.
Most of your viewers have never seen how HUGE of change clay alone can make. I clay commercial vehicles every day, and it’s one of those asmr visuals that you simply cannot beat, well maybe making perfect stripes on your lawn…
I don't know how you have the patience to work on these cars. A special breed . Thank God for mechanics. My motto was always that when I could afford a mechanic I knew I was doing ok in life !! 🤣
Well done getting the jag back on the road, lubricate the active exhaust valves make sure they're free and the drain holes where your roof folds down if they get blocked it could cause problems also check rear subframe for rust other than that enjoy smiling while you drive.
I have a jaguar f type s 2016. I had 12k miles this spring and i had a check engine light for o2 sensor. I read it was a warranty item and they fixed it no questions asked. I want to see you try this. Warranty on o2 sensors is 10 years 100k miles
Hey JR I have a 2015 R with a broken vent thats stuck, you mentioned you might fix yours would love to you do a video of that. Thanks for your videos!!
I used one of those quick AC recharge kits on an old beat up Nissan Maxima I had years ago. Quick top off in May and it would blow ice cold all summer.
Had a Mini Cooper S in last year for a permanent knock dectected. We went through everything, plugs, coils, fuel filter, etc. Eventually turned out that it had 95ron fuel in it when it should’ve had 97ron (UK). After 20 litres of 97 and an Italian tune up it ran perfect 👍☺️
@WatchJRGo: if I remember correctly you can only read out the oil level when the engine has been switched off for more than 15 minutes, it's like that on most JLR products these days. Also Dynamic mode could have been written out with the tune, that deletes most drive modes and makes it go fast in every one. Not my choice, but that's what it came with for you! And thanks again for rescuing this one, I'm madly in love with F-Types, especially the supercharged Sixes! The growl when you start it up and then revving it when it's nice and warm... 😄👍
You noted that it may have been tuned. A tuned F-type typically consists of an aftermarket supercharger pulley and a reflashed ECU. If there's only one and not the other (due to changing the engine), that may be the issue. (I'm not the first to note this.) I wonder if some of the naysayers will now decide that Jags are nice...
@@WatchJRGo I'm sure that you're right, that it's tuned for the smaller SC pulley but the tune on these aj126 are typically for a the crank pulley which is 11.6% larger. This was the case on both my F-Type and F-paces.
Can't wait for the full detail on this car, going to take some work, but i bet it comes out like glass... when you have a start/stop car, there is way more plumbing involved and wiring. Electric water and trans fluid pumps and plumbing, it's worse on a turbo because it also has air, oil and cooling running back n forth front to back off engine. Good job getting everything hooked up correct first time.
I did a xf last year got it as a non runner and replaced the engine ...it was always unhappy and endless headaches ....I did get everything sorted after a few weeks but it always came back with codes ,not sure if it was ground wires or what but I ended up parting ways and cutting my losses
JR, you said at 11:10-15 you'd put a link in the description for "car-link, car-leaf, couldn't make it out? that you were using for the live info as you were driving the Jag. Really would like to check that out, if you'd be so kind to post the link for it. Thanks, enjoyed the Jag series, as always.
I knew you would get it fixed, because you are like a bulldog when it comes down to fixing every glitch, and you always win. Good job JR, that is a nice looking ride.
JR, another bad as repair. You do a awesome job on all the projects. Since you have a jag and a helicopter I think a James Bond thing needs to happen! Seriously awesome channel, I look forward to seeing it every day. Thank you, What’s in my Grey Garage!
Hey like my 2012 xkr for which the fType is based off of the oil light can only be read when the car is cool and in the on position, not with the car running....im 99.99999% sure...loved this video
Oil check is the same on the RRS of the same era. Only works with engine off. It also needs to sit for about 15 minutes after it was last run for the oil measuring to work. I miss dip sticks 😉.
Hey what's with the Major Sound system in your garage?? Do you throw parties there or have jams?? That's a full on concert series set up you have on the mounts up there!
Hi. I have an Opel Combo C (you don't have it in USA), that after changing the thermostat had so many DTC's that the engine didn't start. After cleaning all the DTC's, the engine started at first attempt... Sometimes there is things that reason don't understand... :)
I've seen more codes than that. But always start from scratch like you did by clearing everything and see what comes back. Sometimes if it's started with the existing codes still on it like it did for you. It will cause issues with the way it runs. That's why you need to reset all the modules.
Things like "x mode unavailable" definitely sounds like a battery voltage issue. My XKR gets fussy when it's been sitting too long. Same for the TPMS light if it's a TPMS system fault message. And the power steering heaviness as I commented on the previous video. Hopefully that's the only issue and that it should be fine if you replace the battery and keep it on a trickle charger if you don't drive it often.
did you try to turrn it off and turn in on??? i guess that this time worked!!! I guess when you will change the second battery a lot of no sense will go away..
Depending on the state you may need a license to buy Freon. It called a universal license. Allows you to purchase Freon anywhere in the world…. Never expires either…at least mine doesn’t
Don’t forget the battery drain issue if you’ve used the OBD and not disconnected properly. The car doesn’t fully shut down and drains the battery. Way to tell if the cars hazard light button is still illuminated 10-15min after locking the car it has the issue. Disconnect the battery to reset it. 👍🏼

Love how you methodically just prioritize and over come any fear repairing these machines.
his methodical skill are lacking if he did not cleat the codes after the engine swap.....
@@walterwhite2270 if you'd have watched the other video he did clear the codes
Nice job with this car, this has been a fun project to watch. One of the better projects you've ever done.
WatchJR Jag has been one of my favorites. The before and after will be insane. Once the Detail Dudes work, their magic is going to be incredible.
Great result and will be even better when detailed. I've had 2 Jags and from my experience they are super fussy about battery voltage but hopefully the outstanding codes are not too serious.
Re: oil level, get the engine up to temperature, wait 10 minutes then check.
Your honesty makes things so much better and easier. It's why I watch you!
Jr Went, then Jr Broke, now Jr Go once again 🔥🔥🔥
Watch jr go 😱
i'm sorry ... did you get hit in the head or something??
Hope you bring out a video when you detail the Jag. Would be great to see the before and after shots of the car. Cheers
You have to wait at least 10 (more like 15) minutes with the car off to check the oil. We have XK's but the F Type is a fun car. enjoy!
Oh, that supercharger whine~ Was wondering if clearing the codes would help, seems like it did for the most part. Looking forward to seeing this car properly cleaned up and sorted!

To check the oil... After warming up the engine turn it off, wait 10min or so then without turning the engine back on check the oil

Fantastic! Sounds great. Checking oil on my xf, the engine had to have not run for a while
I can appreciate your perseverance. It feels great when it all works out in the end.
I’ve seen when the converter damage code comes up it disables the injector on the affected cylinder to save the converter. Clear codes and fixed!

That was one of the hardest engine swaps you've ever done I personally like old schools simple cars. The more complexity the more troubles.
I think the audi r8 was harder, I'm sure John Ross would agree.
