Visited City music yesterday and picked up and tried the D-15M streetmaster and was blown away by its intonation and resonance. I played a note and the sound reverberated thru the all wood mahagony and was going on and on. Full rounded sound but no electronics. Mike it up and record it in studio. Did not care to look at other offerings of Martin. This was the sound I pleasantly fell in love when I heard it.
I love all your videos. But this one is special because this guitar is special. They say the right guitar will find you and I think this is one of the right guitars for you. It is lucky to have such a talented owner. God bless you my friend.
I just bought a D-15M for myself. This video is the representation of the sound one can get out of a D-15. Love mine. I played a few d-28 and D-35 before I decided on and bought the D-15. Just love the tone.
Hey Jonathan, I was the guy that messaged about the Yamaha fsx5 vs 000-15. Just wanted to let you know I ended up getting a streetmaster dss , funny enough I find you have one too haha! I wanted to share a bit of my story to you if you want to read it. The streetmaster is a very close guitar to my heart and I knew that before I got serious about buying one of these. Sparing you the details, a few years back (2019 april) I got out of the hospital for self harm/suicidal ideation and couldn't have my guitars in the hospital due to the chance of harming myself. This alone made me realize how much I wanted out , and to get better. I got out and all I wanted was to play again so we went straight to Sam ash and my mom actually picked the streetmaster out for how gorgeous it was. Not looking at price at all, I promised I'd own it one day to have a piece of that day and remember my struggles in the past, as well as to remeber how important guitar and music and God has been in my survival and mental health , and quite frankly how funny my mom is to say all other guitars look boring compared to this one (not a fan of natural spruce). Thank you so much for your reviews, they have helped me and countless others make decisions and they pick you up on the bad days, subscriber for life here . Nice I not sure if you ever heard of EKO brand I have a 1965 J54 Dreadnaught , it was a poor man's Martin back the n , it still sounds good , but that's a lovely acoustic
Canadian in the UK I still have an EKO dreadnaught, purchased in the late seventies. I must have written over 100 songs with it - they are great value. I now have a Tanglewood Sundance as my songwriting tool. The overtones/playability are the best I’ve ever heard. It just gets better with age. One day I will buy a nice Martin, probably when I retire in 7 years time, I’d like a smaller body so that it’s more comfortable to play, just like Jonathan’s one in this video, but without the distressed look. I may get a Taylor too for their reputation of being easy to play in the hand.
@@DenisAhmet The Eko is a big tank but still very solid , it has this wonderful tone , I picked it up from a second hand shop a few years ago for £15 pounds I had new strings placed , you will not purchase a guitar like this for that amount of money, it's worth much more than £15, the second shop had no idea of what it was or it's true value, I would ask you a question Denis what strings have you placed on your Eko,
Jon! Love to see you playing an acoustic in one of the these episodes. I love my Martin, and I think the Streetmaster series has great tone and usability. Jon I have been looking at this model as well as the DSS-15M, so the algorithm popped you up today. First off, you are a real treat and evidently a true gentleman as well as a fine player. Thanks for the heartfelt review. You bought one.. so that says a lot. I currently have a 000-15SM. That is a fantastic sounding guitar; however, it’s both a 12 fret and the nut is 1 3/4” with a saddle spacing at 2 1/4”… (the D-15M has a 2 1/8” saddle) so a few more frets and a narrower fretboard seems appealing to me. I can’t get my thumb over even on my Telecaster as convincingly as you do, but on the D-15M it ought to be a bit more accessible. Here’s two questions. Are you familiar with my current guitar for comparison (000-15SM)? Did you compare yours to the DSS-15M? I really like your experience and consideration; if you have any feedback comparing your model with these two others I’d love to hear what you think. Thanks!!
Jonathan: With your skill, you could make a cigar box guitar stand up and dance. I haven't played a Streetmaster, but I can't say I've heard a standard D-15M sound as good.
Love your videos! Quick question: which guitar do you think is best? The D15m, the 000-15m or the OMC-15? Also what are your thoughts on taylors new AD22?

My experience with the Sm's they don't have that chime or sustain, The ones I've played felt dry, stiff, "Not Open" Something seems to be missing for an all solid mahogany wood Martin guitar. Any thoughts?
Im curious. You said Martin necks were usually chunky and not as comfortable for you. What is it different with this guitar? I‘ve been considering a D15M or a Djr. Sapele (for comfort). But I also find Martin necks more demanding
Hi Jon, thanks for sharing this. I really appreciate your lovely playing and presentations. ❤ Your music is just beautiful and touching. It's crazy how the prices went up since you made this video. Nowadays this guitar is around 1.899€. But anyway..that's the game 🙂 I'm just wondering if you still own and play this Streetmaster despite having a D-35 at home? I was thinking about selling my Martin 00-15M to afford sth. like a D-28/35.. But I can't do that..😅 It was my first Martin guitar too and there's sth. so sweet about the tonality of an all mahagony that I don't wanna miss... Keep up your great work.
In fact, I like your unbiased coverage of all that guitarists are willing to spend a fortune on. But why do I ask myself, do you play in a room that is even smaller than my bathroom?
Hahaha that's because I don't have a big house like yours! I kinda like my"smaller than your bathroom" studio.. As everything I need is within easy reach. I know it looks cramped in this video.. But it's not that bad 🤓✌️
What I wondered after playing one of these is if Martin did anything else to this model other than just "relic" it. I've played plenty of Martins, I especially enjoy the mahogany ones, but this model just seems to have something "extra" in the tone so that it _sounds_ like an old mahogany guitar. It's not any visual cue because I really hate "reliced" (sic) guitars, and I didn't want to like Martins new marketing -scam- strategy. But I ended up being very impressed with the feel and especially the sound. ...even if the looks annoyed me more than a Daisy Rock guitar.
I don’t think a mahogany top usually sounds that crisp. That says things to me regarding the thought that went in to this one. Was very surprised by the highs. Anyway... it’s kind of a thing we all know about writing... that the best tool for it is an acoustic, if we are a Guitarist. Have started having mine out more often... so it’s just easier to grab and mess around on.
Jonathan Koh I was speaking more along the lines of the acoustic Guitar and all it’s aspects of how you need to approach them being more conducive to writing than say... an electric. But yes... portability is key. Inspiration is a tricky little gremlin sometimes. You gotta catch that little guy when you can. Lol

I love these Streetmaster guitars , but I prefer the OOO so I bought one.
Nice ✌🤓
In fact, I like your unbiased coverage of all that guitarists are willing to spend a fortune on. But why do I ask myself, do you play in a room that is even smaller than my bathroom?
Hahaha that's because I don't have a big house like yours! I kinda like my"smaller than your bathroom" studio.. As everything I need is within easy reach. I know it looks cramped in this video.. But it's not that bad 🤓✌️
To do any justice to the guitar and most definitely your playing, I will have to use my best headphone. Good job bro!!
Thank you 🤓✌️
Hello what strings were on this guitar do you know?
The normal Martin 12s
What I wondered after playing one of these is if Martin did anything else to this model other than just "relic" it.
I've played plenty of Martins, I especially enjoy the mahogany ones, but this model just seems to have something "extra" in the tone so that it _sounds_ like an old mahogany guitar.
It's not any visual cue because I really hate "reliced" (sic) guitars, and I didn't want to like Martins new marketing -scam- strategy.
But I ended up being very impressed with the feel and especially the sound.
...even if the looks annoyed me more than a Daisy Rock guitar.
I know what you mean...it kinda surprised to me to hear it the 1st time I played it...What they did...they did it right!
Not necessarily bro
Bro what size of string grade you have? And brand? Is it 13/56?
I use Daddario 10s 🤓✌
Are you still living the Street Master?
No i dont..✌💚
@@JonIsJustTooLoud so you don’t live the sound anymore? Just curious…What made you change your mind?
@@UserConn oh no.. I like the sound. I decided to trade up to a D35
Gonna start running out of space there ☺
seriously....I'm putting this baby in my bedroom...hahaha
LOL better listen to him, Jon! 😂 Actually that looks like a totally cool studio... something to see wherever you look -
@@MattyK-USA lol
I don’t think a mahogany top usually sounds that crisp. That says things to me regarding the thought that went in to this one. Was very surprised by the highs. Anyway... it’s kind of a thing we all know about writing... that the best tool for it is an acoustic, if we are a Guitarist. Have started having mine out more often... so it’s just easier to grab and mess around on.
Yep.. Fact is having a guitar as a writing tool is so portable... You can actually bring to anywhere for inspirations 🤓✌️
Lol

Bro would you teach me your chords its sounds cool and broken. I know the basic only but want to learn your chords please thanks sounds great bro
I am honoured but I don’t do Skype Lessons... yet✌️❤️
Put fingers on string best way for you but hurts the people
well I have decided Jonathons guitar reviews are a complete waste of time it doesn't matter if it's a Martin or a Harley Benton his playing makes them all sound incredible , I think if I put strings on a sweeping brush he would make it sound amazing.
Lol....I tried that... It didn't work 🤪✌️
Sounds terrible good
hahah Terribly good of you to say that! 🤓✌
Who the **** goes busking with an $1800 guitar?
You'll be so surprised!!
I remember some old guy busking on the streets with a gold top les paul. People still gave him money ☺
@@malcolmhardwick4258 I have seen buskers over here with Taylor and Martin guitars...Some of them are not really into the money I guess...
There really are artists that sacrifice for their art. I've known one or two, I guess. Pretty cool, in my book.
I live in Nashville they play $5000 guitsrs in the streets here.
