The quirk with Martins is that most times when you are playing them they do sound too dark and muffled from a players perspective... but the sound the audience/microphone hears is completely different than what you're hearing. It's woody and perfect.
You are DEAD wrong about this guitar not being made in the USA bro, Martins and taylors are only made In mexico or the USA nowhere else. literally none of the wood on that guitar except maybe the spruce bracing inside is native to the US so it has to be sourced from around the world. I’ll say this about the difference in gloss/ matte. I wasn’t a fan of the matte finish at first, but after owning one it has completely changed my mind! I own this guitar and it’s a beast to play. The action can only be lowered so much as is with Martin guitars and it’s just not enough for me. I’m use to Alvarez guitars and so this Martin definitely has higher action. Its a good guitar but it’s just made for a specific player I think….It’s definitely a finger pick work guitar, not so much for a pick strummer. It’s just too dark of a sound which is because of the full body of Mahogany wood. It’s like $1,400.00 on line but I got mine for $1,100.00….But an Alvarez MD60 for $800.00 could be a better deal as I kinda wish I would have just bought another one of those at this point as the action on this Martin is too high for me and it just has too dark a sound. . My older Alvarez, the MD60CE, I could play that guitar for hours and be just fine. But that had the cedar wood top, I want the spruce top actually, if I can get one because that way I can get that a nice bright sound, but I’ll stick with the dreadnought body style that way I’ll get that deeper body lower tones along with the brighter spruce sound. It's beautiful right out of the box . I love the plain Jane look . The martin d15m is a very beautiful instrument . I just paid 1499.00 far mind ordered from the factory .
In the uk the 15m is at least £100 more in the streetmaster version and the straight 15m has a decent hard case. The 15m in the dread or the 000 version is however a great guitar. I have had a 00015m for a few years, bought it used love it
Your playing style is more suited to a D18. You’ll get that familiar loud Taylor brightness but it comes with a huge bottom end boom; the trademark Martin “growl”.
maybe don't expect a brighter sound out of a dreadnaught with a mahogany top? Do some research on tone woods and body shapes and how they affect the tone , Taylor workshop videos have great info on what wood combinations and body shapes tend to lean certain ways sonically .
There is no bonding, finish is super thin making for more resonance over gloss, but still protects the wood. The guitar is not overpriced. Dude...! are you high, it says made in USA!
The satin finish guitars are all the rage right now, Taylors, Martin, Furch, Maton etc...I think they sound better and look better myself, just maybe not as durable.
Just traded in my myrtle wood Breedlove today and got this in the GPC version. It’s perfection if your looking for a more natural earthy tone. With tax I payed $1695 and absolutely happy with it. Went in to buy a Taylor and this felt so much better to me and I like the tone overall better too but still love the Taylor tone. Mine came with hard shell case.
Is the best value guitar, overpriced! lol That's the best value guitar you can buy if you're looking for all mahogany rolled off highs sound. You can pay more, but mahogany doesn't sound better past this standard. (not true for spruce varieties). (taylor has better sight-unseen qc if you're ordering, but they don't sound the same and they cost more.) Good video though. Made in USA matters, it is made in the USA. High-end foreign builders are great also, at the very high end. But things like that matter more than a sticker, a first time student can hear a radical difference in the sound. That guitar couldn't sound more woody if you took the entire finish off of it. Sounds great. It comes in non-streetmaster (non-relic'd) also. 00-15m 000-15m and gpc15m are also available I believe. I like that SOFA good taste, but bruh.. made in USA smokes not because of tech. It's the materials and crafting method. And you're spot on about the "folk". Mahogany is a depression era soud.
You brought some details to my attention that were helpful. Thanks! 2021 people should avoid sending their guitar buying bucks to communist China. You have me looking again at the Taylor.
Off point but US made products do not have to be marked. Products made outside US do. The marking indicates it was made in US and wood and hardware are imported but does not change origin. I am an expert in intl trade.
I agree it’s over priced!! It looks like plywood and sounds like it. These guitar companies are getting so full of themselves the public needs to put their foot down and say enough is enough. Screw Martin!!!
First of all, the 15m series are made in the USA. Crafted is a more sophisticated way of saying made. 2nd of all, That guitar is supposed to come w/ a hard shell case. Look at the website. I think the guy who traded kept the case for another guitar and just bought a gig bag to save some extra money
Acccctually it really doesn’t have as much to or anything to do with the ability of another country to make a certain quality. It’s actually multi-faceted, but most notably it’s bc manufacturing jobs for a country of over 300 million ppl are very important for lower to middle class; and if American’s are buying things, buying them from their own country is a good way to ensure lower skilled workers can still work. If American’s only buy foreign goods bc the labor’s cheaper you’ll end up with everything being made somewhere else, ergo no one to buy those goods bc they don’t have jobs? So to justify the expense of the labor in the U.S. companies have to make better quality products. As the price goes up there’s a diminishing increase in quality so again, to justify the labor expense the American made guitars and many other goods, yes, they will have to take advantage of the better margins off of that price to quality graph.
Crafted means built. If it says crafted in Nazareth, PA that means it was built in that factory. The Mexican-made are easily identifiable. This was not made there
@@everysingleguitars Quantity doesn't means quality. Having guitars doesn't means you know how to play them, wich is evident with this video. Hope you have improved in this years and have gained some humility.
@@Voxaac @Voxaac lol... quantity means more chances of physically inspecting a guitar... ive held poorly made guitars ... ive held high quality guitars... if you do this for a while , you can tell which guitars are well made or not... the tuning of a guitar has no relation to how well made a guitar is...... relax bro
Well, it’s not really about the country a guitar is built in, for me. It’s usually about factory (or the amount of computerized technology used) vs. hand-built. I tend to turn my nose up to anything produced from a factory. Give me an older Martin or a Collings, Preston Thompson, Hooper, or Boucher (a Canadian luthier).

This is a DSS-15M I believe.
The SS stands for sloped shoulder. Notice the way the shoulders are sloped in and not parallel with the rest of the body.
Dude it means they sourced the wood. Absolutely made in USA. Gibson and everyone company in the United States sources wood from around the world. The reason for that is because of types of wood and availability. And it’s mahogany. If you want a brighter sound go spruce top
I dig your guitar man that thing will polish up cool in places you are touching alot .
very true. kinda like raw demin jeans.
Which guitar have you played has the darkest, warmest tone?
Satin is a great look! I hate gloss!
That’s a USA Martin not Mexico...
U sure?
@@everysingleguitars Yes because if you look at every one from the X series up to the Road series it says made in Mexico
Only the American made Martins say crafted in Nazareth, PA.
The 15 series is USA built.
The thing is probably any plastics, metals, and possibly the wood itself is sourced from somewhere else.
@@WillieG1016 so does that still count as MADE IN USA?
Just so you know all the Martin 15 style guitars are made in the custom shop in Nazareth, PA.
Next time you trade a guitar you should check up on it-the guitar sells all over the place for $1399-you can pick it up cheaper-it is also common now for companies to provide gig bags at this price point-if you are going to do these reviews get abetter handle on the market.
Satin is much better as the wood breathes more and with age it will be beautiful
I have had a 00015m for a few years, bought it used love it
Thumbs up bro
I did not know Nazareth PA. Was in China. But I liked your review
Your playing style is more suited to a D18.
You’ll get that familiar loud Taylor brightness but it comes with a huge bottom end boom; the trademark Martin “growl”.
What’s my playing style?
I love this acoustic
maybe don't expect a brighter sound out of a dreadnaught with a mahogany top?
Do some research on tone woods and body shapes and how they affect the tone , Taylor workshop videos have great info on what wood combinations and body shapes tend to lean certain ways sonically .
I rather have a nitro satin finish over poly any day.
They do come with hard cases.
@@Mostly50 my d-15 did?
“East Indian rosewood” what part of the USA is that from lol
There is no bonding, finish is super thin making for more resonance over gloss, but still protects the wood. The guitar is not overpriced. Dude...! are you high, it says made in USA!
The satin finish guitars are all the rage right now, Taylors, Martin, Furch, Maton etc...I think they sound better and look better myself, just maybe not as durable.
It’s doesn’t have plastic on it it’s bone and Ebony
Can you review a Martin om28e reimagined L & R bags anthem pick up !!!!!
wrote it on my list
Kind of weird. I bought a regular D-15M new last weekend and it comes with a hardshell case.
Street master always comes with that gig bag. The vintage technique cost is the hard case cost.
This gig bag pretty damn good tho lol
Love this guitar, seriously thinking of selling my Breedlove for one. A little overpriced? I do think so, yeah
Breedloves are good guitars too
Just traded in my myrtle wood Breedlove today and got this in the GPC version. It’s perfection if your looking for a more natural earthy tone. With tax I payed $1695 and absolutely happy with it. Went in to buy a Taylor and this felt so much better to me and I like the tone overall better too but still love the Taylor tone. Mine came with hard shell case.
wish i could play with a pick at home, without neighbours getting pissed
Is the best value guitar, overpriced! lol
That's the best value guitar you can buy if you're looking for all mahogany rolled off highs sound.
You can pay more, but mahogany doesn't sound better past this standard. (not true for spruce varieties). (taylor has better sight-unseen qc if you're ordering, but they don't sound the same and they cost more.)
Good video though.
The wood is grown over there. The guitar is 100% built in PA.
You brought some details to my attention that were helpful. Thanks! 2021 people should avoid sending their guitar buying bucks to communist China. You have me looking again at the Taylor.
How does buying a Martin "send guitar buying bucks to communist China"?
@@Magic_Man916 it doesn't. My comment was completely inarticulate.
The guitar is made in the USA..
Hence "Crafted in Nazareth, PA, USA"...
Great autobiography read it a while back ❤️
It was a great read agreed
Dude I am also a So. Cal dude
Nocal dude
Dudeeeee
Overpriced? At least this is solid wood made by a big brand. Meanwhile, Taylor charges you the same price for layered wood.
🧐
Off point but US made products do not have to be marked. Products made outside US do. The marking indicates it was made in US and wood and hardware are imported but does not change origin. I am an expert in intl trade.
Their d-15 and up are all made in the U.S.
As the price goes up there’s a diminishing increase in quality so again, to justify the labor expense the American made guitars and many other goods, yes, they will have to take advantage of the better margins off of that price to quality graph.
dude..
Dude..
dude..
Dude, buy American hire American. DUDE
Dude
Dude
Crafted means built. If it says crafted in Nazareth, PA that means it was built in that factory. The Mexican-made are easily identifiable. This was not made there
It's the mahogany that doesn't give the bright sound. I don't really like that bright sound. Too ringy. I hate even putting new strings on.
Not getting a good d28 on 1400
Nah not a good d28... maybe a worn d28
Dude, I mean dude your missing the point why people are anal about buying usa
Well you can't see the binding because there is none. Why would you play it with a capo? You lose tone that way.
🥱🥱🥱 Let’s see your review of this guitar
It’s meat to be aged that’s why the body looks like that
I have a 2012 Chapman ml1 I’ll trade you for something
Money just doesn't go as far these days....the guitar is certainly worth the price!
How do you know if a guitar is "good" if you don't know when a guitar is untuned XD
because i've held over 1000+ guitars
@@everysingleguitars Quantity doesn't means quality. Having guitars doesn't means you know how to play them, wich is evident with this video. Hope you have improved in this years and have gained some humility.
@@Voxaac @Voxaac lol... quantity means more chances of physically inspecting a guitar... ive held poorly made guitars ... ive held high quality guitars... if you do this for a while , you can tell which guitars are well made or not... the tuning of a guitar has no relation to how well made a guitar is...... relax bro
@@everysingleguitars cool reply keeping it civil
It is all mahogany, it is not supposed to be "bright".
Well, it’s not really about the country a guitar is built in, for me. It’s usually about factory (or the amount of computerized technology used) vs. hand-built. I tend to turn my nose up to anything produced from a factory. Give me an older Martin or a Collings, Preston Thompson, Hooper, or Boucher (a Canadian luthier).
very good point. 1 must always consider the factory it was built regardless of country
Ugh do your research that guitar is made in the USA.
Lmao , you could get a Yamaha that sounds 2x better for half the price
No
Martin is unable to even get instruments to customers they really dropped the ball they can't get stuff to customers my guitar shop said 1 year wait for martins even ukuleles from Mexico .martin is no good anymore sorry
You aint getting a D-28 from the 90s for anywhere near $1400
