Good song for jamming on a simple funk line. Great for practicing hammer on consistency and staccato.
About harmony i'm actually not that clear. Usually on Funk you have lots of tensions (7s, 9s, etc). It's defintely E minor key, but the instrumental is not charged with much presence of minor or major. The guitar chords actually lack the third, so i base on the voice to say that. I'd say the harmony moves a lot in tensions and modulations, since i don't see many harmonic relation (for example the 3rd grade on Eminor should be G Major, not minor) but again, i'm not quite sure. If someone has something to add, i'd love to know

I know it's not 'correct', but I prefer to play the 'lay down the boogie and play that funky music til you die' vocal line in unison on the bass (sounds good with a bend on the last E too). Also, what do others play during the solo if there's no 2nd guitarist in your band?

I am not sure about the C note in the bridge section. 10th frett on the D string. I think it should be B.
No - common mistake - this is the only fully correct version of this track that I've found on UA-cam, and it's definitely a C played, as you say, on the 10th fret/second string, and coincides with the vocal 'Lay', see here: ua-cam.com/video/hPuZgYOWfK8/v-deo.html although the usually excellent Mark gets the riff in G wrong!

Wow, you really put in the work. I have a 74 Jazz Bass with EMG pickups. I have had it set up a couple of different times but it doesn't sound half as good as your Washburn. Maybe I have some bad wiring, who knows.

not really but there's easier control on a fretted note for staccatos
