If you take it to the tract and need maximum stability while racing in streets, then sp is worth it, but I am a regular rider, I had 2018mt09 sp and it was nice yes, but standard is good enough now anyways
OC: I have the SP. No question, it is worth every penny over the base model. Edit : Also, the electronics are amazing for wet/rainy track days. Slide control absolutely slaps
@@tazzicek Nooo lol, definitely not. I’d suggest something less aggressive/fast and cheaper like an MT-07. MT-09 is a good second or third bike depending on your goals and experience.

Exactly, you’re better off getting the suspension adjusted for your weight in the regular 09 version and if that maxes it out get new fork cartridges for half the price
OC: Definitely would go straight for the SP. For commuting on the highway everyday Cruise Control is a Godsend. Plus if it'll cost more than $1600 to upgrade a standard MT09 to the SP level, you'd have to be crazy to not go for the SP to start with. Also the bloopers at the end killed me🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
that extra 1.6k can buy you an exhaust and tune which in my opinion is worth more than that little extra adjustability on your suspension which you really only use when you ride HARD

It would be nice if Yamaha could get the SP version to the dealerships.....And when a dealerships does get one....they slap on these bloodsucking fees which will take it well above MSRP...
I was totaly on board with geting a MT-09 SP next year only for cruse control. But now i have to have the 2022 SXR900 in black. It has cruse control and i think it looks better too.
Awesome!! I'm leaning towards the non sp model since I don't think I need/want cruise control. The nicer suspension is cool but I think the upgraded fork of the non sp version seems to be decent.
Everyone who says that always ends up regretting it Cruise control is such an underrated feature, so many times I wish I had it when riding long distance
I recently bought a very lightly used Matte Raven Black 2021 MT-09. I was given the choice between it and a new 2022 MT-09 SP coming in a week later. After my test ride, on a road of my choice, I felt no need to spend the extra cash for the SP. The dealer sold the bike to me for list price, with a 2 year Yamaha warranty. I've been tuning the suspension and tire air pressures, I'm not quite through yet, but this bike handles great! I'm a happy man, this is the most fun bike I've ever ridden!
Appreciate this. At this price point, it's quite the value if you can afford to grab the SP it seems. Helps a lot. I'm in research mode atm and this answered a big question for me. Thank you!

I got the standard version as the SP version was not available where I live. I actually prefer the look of the raven matte black finish of my standard model. It is bad ass although I agree with you that the SP is well worth the extra money. But in any case I'm loving my standard version.
OC: Ordered the SP Aug 3rd....(3 months - still no bike) I've already started to mod...the bike that I don't have ... with ASV levers....gold with blue adjusters...Gonna order a radiator guard...thinking of sequential turn signals. I just got a standard MT09, didn’t get a chance to test ride the SP as no one has any for that purpose near me, seems to ride and handle very well, I’d say it’s softer the 2022 XSR 900 which I had for a while which for me is a plus point, from what I’ve heard the MT09SP is even stiffer than the XSR 900 so I don’t think I’d buy an SP for that alone, plus I’m not a good enough rider to make use of the better suspension
@@ganuvien From what I’ve read the new MT10 it is just a styling refresh, the CP4 is the same with a slight bump in hp. Hopefully it will be revealed at EICMA.

I'm going with the 2023 standard MT-09 in Matte Raven Black. I'll spend the additional $1700 for the SP on aftermarket accessories to make it mine. I'm hoping the stock suspension will hold up to my 5'7" 175lbs. If not I have a local Ohlins dealer and suspension tuner just giddy to sell me some parts. Hoping it doesn't come to that.
cruise control as being the only selling point........you can get ohlins suspension for 2k and sure its better than mass produced stuff for manufacturers......stock stuff is fine for most........motocross has for years now........i would get stock bike and throw ohlins NIX cartridge kit and TTX shock in rear DTL and keep stock componets for resale or just sell them .......cruise control in LA is useless.........adaptive cruise would be something though
The difference here in the UK is about 1600-2000 dollars between sp and non sp. Is it really worth the extra? I could live without cruise control and I actually don't like the blue wheels. I never go on track. Shame there's not an all black sp lol
Exactly what I was thinking.. And I don’t have experience with that premium suspension but I assume only a real track rider would have benefits from it.
