I also have a colony of these ladies! I caught my queen summer of '22 and they are out of hibernation now with about 15 workers! What kinds of foods do you typically offer them?
Wonderful!! Hope your colony is doing well. Mine like mealworms and Kool-Aid. I've tried cut up dubias, but they don't seem interested. I've given them fruit flies a few times (like when I recorded this video), and recently I've given them small hornworms and black soldier fly larvae. This video is pretty old now, and the colony has gotten much bigger. I will tell you that these girls love to escape at any given chance and I've had a lot of escapees lol. The queen herself never escaped thankfully, but the workers that escaped made a nest in a plant pot in my room and produced males, which wanted to fly around. I've since solved that problem, but I think keeping them in test tubes is a great way to keep them contained lol. I've tried three different nests and they were able to escape two of them very easily, so now mine are in some test tubes again. Even though my colony is a few hundred strong now, they still struggle to finish off a 1ml tower of Kool-Aid, lol. They are so small
Hello! I’m new to ant keeping and I have a few questions if you don’t mind. I recently caught a wingless Brachymyrmex queen walking on the sidewalk outside my house. I did my research and I am now keeping it in a proper test tube setup. However, I’ve had no luck finding if I should feed it or not. Also if I do have to feed it, is sugar water ok? Also it’s been a few days and the Queen only has one larvae so far so I was wondering how I could tell if she’s mated or not. Anyway sorry for all these questions.
No worries! You don't need to feed her, as they are fully claustral. You won't be able to tell if she's mated until her first workers (or males) arrive. It shouldn't take very long since Brachymyrmex are really small. Good luck!
Nice colony and I love the format/style of your videos.
Thank you!!!
You are so underrated omg
Haha, thanks. I only have a few videos so I'm not really that underrated!

Haha, thanks. I just use my phone so I’m glad it looks good!!
Esthetic ants nest? I have one for my campos too! :)
Awesome! I’m really liking it so far, the ants like it too! I actually just bought a size up for these ants today!
U too underrated.
this ants only one queen or moer queen?
My colony only has one queen, but I’ve heard that they can have more than one.
Wow this is a tiny species of ant, to make a fruit fly look big is quite the feat.
They are really really small!! But they can still drag the fruit flies around like they are nothing!
