    The excitement of checking queens you've not looked at for a while is one of the best parts of this hobby, thanks for sharing

    Wow! That's some pretty fast progression for that big of a species!

      I know, right? I was expecting just larvae, not pupae!

    They have such a low amount of initial brood, can see why Campos are slow at the start.

    • @HappilyEverAnter
      @HappilyEverAnter  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I was thinking about that. Only one worker at the start makes it hard for them to get going.

      Campos are way too slow, it took 2 months and a half for the largest campos i keep to get workers!

      @@Drpaper1 The sort of rough rule in ant keeping is that the bigger the species the slower they develop.

    Sooo glad to find your channel. I'm from England and am a couple years into ant keeping.. I'm very interested in Camponotus species though and have just acquired a Camponotus turkestanus Queen .. she ate her brood as soon as she was unboxed so I have put her away dark space in hopes she will try start again. Your channel recommended by basic ants in England.. his very good channel also bit like yours it seems except just british Lasius species 😊

      Oh wow! I didn’t know my channel was recommended by him. That’s so cool!
      Camponotus are great ants, I love just how many different kinds there are and how large most of them are. I’m sorry to hear that your turkestanus queen ate her brood, but she’ll probably start again after being left alone for a while! Good luck!!!

      @@Orangutan_Stella I'm pretty sure that most, if not all Camponotus are fully claustral. I'd do some research on her- look up care guides and antkeeping journals that others have put up.

      @@HappilyEverAnter I have researched as much as I can find on the Internet about her species long b4 I acquired her I can assure. Its a pet hate of mine people getting any animal and only afterwards doing any enquiries on that particular creature. I have heard that it very common that if the Queen feels disturbed she will eat her brood. I was just enquiring if you had any further advice on any possible experiences on what you would recommend I could try do that may not be common knowledge ect. As for information on then being semi calastral or fully i have heard all camponotus are fully calaustral although there is a certain degree of suggestion or at least confusion over turkastunus on couple bits literature I have read. So my mind never hurts to ask many different people over same subject to get better subjective idea .

    This year was the very first time I have caught queens and I am looking forward to when their first workers (nanitics) arrive. They are Lasius Niger but I am hopefully getting Myrmica rubra soon! I wish you and your founding colonies the best of luck!

      Hey that’s great!! I wish you luck too! This was basically my first real successful year with ant keeping. It takes a lot of trial and error and patience!
