V10E18: Turning Aspens in the Black Hills
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2020
- The week kicks off in a dramatic moonscape and recreation area in northern Wyoming's public lands. I continue northeast through Ten Sleep where I stop for pizza, and then venture into the sprawling Bighorn Mountains. I explore a lookout tower, savor the golden aspens, and then continue east into Black Hills National Forest, my first visit to South Dakota. After acquainting myself with the routes and tracks in the area, I wrap up the week in the mountain town of Custer.
Definitively needed this 30 minutes break from all the craziness.
Amen. Sooo true. 👍
I have been watching for a couple years now. I also watched all the older ones. Your weekly videos are very professionally done.
You have come a long way. GREAT JOB!!
I was waiting all week for this episode.
Such beautiful landscape, like a Bob Ross painting. Thanks Chris !
Great video Chris! Thank you for the effort that you put into it!

Enjoy your “time off” Chris. Thanks for the great content as always.
Thanks for sharing more sites of this great and expansive country we live in. Safe travels and enjoy the break.
Hi Chris. Absolutely love your videos. I subscribe to a few other overland folks on UA-cam, but I find your channel one of the best.
Your laid back style and quiet way of talking makes your videos very relaxing to watch 👍
The more I watch, the more I enjoy..........
You all missed the first annual North Idaho panhandle Overland Rally. It was a blast. What a great venue. 90 + acres of trails. These guys did a superb job putting on this event. They had dispersed camping throughout the forest. Everyone had their own spot, just like a campground. Wish Chris could have been there.
It was at the Purcell Trench Ranch about 15 minutes south of the Canadian border.
Watching at the airport terminal at 6am, love the escape from it all. Thanks Chris!
I'm an Australian, and my grandfather is from South Dakota and talked about the Black Hills. Looking forward to more SD videos.
Looks like a great find for camping. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for another great episode. I"ll say it again, what really makes these videos is the lack of that stupid music everyone else adds.
I totally agree. tires running on the gravel, wind, the running water adds relisiam.
Yep..amazing the almost minimal signs that there was or were someone there before you..hope that its that pristine..thanks
Another outstanding video- Thank you - Watching from the South Philippines.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! The camp site was AWESOME with the red rock back ground.
GORGEOUS SCENERY COLORS ! CAMPSITE WAS BEAUTIFUL & SO WAS THE WEATHER ! STARTING TO GET CHILLY HERE IN MARYLAND & LOVE IT ! ENJOY YOUR TIME TO RELAX & GIVE ORANGE SOME TENDER LOVE & CARE ❤ !
BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! ENJOYED ! THANK YOU !
So I just watched a couple overland shows by a couple on Amazon prime video. Dude you're Amazonable! I really like your adventures!
What??? Two weeks??? I cant wait that long😂
Really enjoy your vids, keep living the dream!
Bee-u-t-full country which you show off stunningly!
Pizzas looked great till you broke out the spinach, ahhh! Hope you had a chance to visit devils tower passing through Wyoming, if not next time through. This is some exciting country, glad you see you finally visiting SD. Make sure you hit up Deadwood, Keystone and Mount Rushmore. Also some very nice scenic routes you can take out of Custer. Enjoy Chris and Godspeed
!
Hey Chris...we love your channel and going to head soon....to some where. I saw you tool pouch you use and want know where you got it. I checked on Blue Ridge Outfitters but couldn’t find it. Appreciate your time to let us know. We both just turned 76 in August and you have inspired us to check out some of your adventure spots. Have driven between San Diego and Ft Worth, Texas several times a year for 43 years and missed all of the jewels you shared. Did Borrego Desert and you even showed us what we missed. Thanks for your content and we watch you every night....never gets old. Thanks, Jim and Judy

Love the photography!
Love the road driving shots
Thanks for another inspiring video Chris. Utah still has warm weather. I'm hopping in my jeep and heading there in a little over a week. I'll probably start with a pilgrimage to Moab then [venture] to other parts of the state in whatever direction the adventure pulls me.
Perhaps a special outside travel box accessory for toilet paper and towels should be added.
Love the blue skies ! We haven't seen blue in weeks with all the smoke.
Great video Chris..
Beautiful scenery.
Thank you
🇺🇸👏🍾
The sacred Black Hills,,, that was Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull territories, they blessed those hills......and many more things......
Thanks for another adventure, gonna miss you next week buddy.
IVE STAYED AT THAT FIRE LOOKOUT! Beautiful views, it was a wonderful stay!
This place is just incredible !
Wonderful as always Chris...
Ok back to the older videos as I’ve still got a couple of years to catch up on.
The dollar store usually sells singles
You beat me to it, just wanted to say that.
What a remarkable location!! The formations are unique as if carved by hands. Also, we just had spaghetti dinner ourselves before watching your video! Cool video too!
Another fantastic video!
Thanks Chris.
I miss being on the road(s). Your videos cheer me up.
My wife and I love the channel. We have a 91 Land Cruiser we use for treks across CO. We also go to SD (Black Hills) once a year and if it weren’t for the freezing winters we’d probably consider moving there. I hate to say it because I don’t like being critical but I was so disappointed that only 8 minutes of the “Black Hills” video was in SD and it was mainly just saying how little there was to do. Ugh soooo sad for me to see!!! 😢😢 There are a lot of off-road communities there. Please consider going back and if you can’t find some good options connect with some locals on where to go. I live in CO, grew up spending every summer in MT, OR, and WA and I’d still say the black hills is one of my favorite places in the US. Anyway, keep venturing forward!!
The Black Hills are indeed gorgeous! What you haven't seen is the week I took off (right after this video) was spent with friends mostly exploring the Black Hills, and we most certainly found some amazing trails - I was apparently poking around in the wrong place at the end of this video. I hope to get back there next year!
while you are in Custer, you simply must eat at the "purple pie place" Good pie!
I imagine any feelings of loneliness out there are balanced by knowing you have 10 or 20 thousand people sharing it with you.
I have watched Chris make the Shontz Spaghetti so many times, I am going to try it tonight. Good content as always. Thanks for what you do.
Steve Akers put some Parmesan cheese on it
@@michaelsakowich7026 I put the 3 cheese blend on it
Wow that was some really beautiful country you filmed in this episode. Thanks so much.
On behalf of all ranchers your closing of gate appreciated, appreciate your vids but not the rude answer I received last time when I asked in a polite and considerate way about closing gate, and once again with respect I thank you
rob greene basic understanding of farm/ranch gates.....if it is open...leave it open....closed,close it.
@buckwilk You would mot understand unless you had to spend time finding cattle from someone leaving gates open but I thank your for your comment
@@llew777 pay no attention to trolls Rob. He is obviously lacking connective brain cells.
@@markymark903 Tend to agree thank you for your comment, I tried to be considerate at possible in my original comment, but I guess you cannot please all , I was very surprised at his comment again I thank you
@buckwilk who is the Karen now???????
The sunset shots at Castle Gardens were glorious!
Nothing like taking a vacation from your vacation. Enjoy.
Thanks Chris, was looking forward to this. Enjoy your break next week. Cheers!
No more PIZZA for you !!!!! Awesome as usual, be well stay safe ,,,
Thanks Chris awesome video and scenery 🇺🇸👍🏻
Hey Chris It was great to follow your enjoyment of the Big Horn Mountains and Ten Sleep. During the virus shutdown I have been listening to the Joe Pickett novels written by C. J. BOX. Joe is a fictional game warden who lives in Ten Sleep and his area of responsibility is the Big Horn range. If you haven't read any of these 20 novels... they are incredible!
Nice video, Chris. Good luck getting your Jeep all sorted out. Look forward to seeing you again in two weeks.
Dood! I was at Sheep Mountain Fire Lookout in June, also by myself in my JKUR. It's a beautiful place. :-)
Thanks again for taking us with you. And good luck with the Jeep fixes. It appears you're having the notorious Chrysler bad electrical ground issues with the light, door, and perhaps more. Petty easy fix for a handyperson most of the time. Best!
Have a good break brotha! Big fan of your Channel!
Loved the sunset shots and have a great break.
So excited to see you in our neighborhood! Lol! I hope you stopped and ate at the Burger and Bun? Phenomenal place to eat!!!, if u get a chance drive down to Carroll creek and Mayo in the Beaver Creek Part of the NF, and dont forget the wildlife loop at the custer state park, lots of prairie dogs! Lol! Ok keep up the great videos!
Two of my Fave places and stomping grounds back in the day! The Big Horns and the Black Hills. I grew up in north west WY in a little town called Pine Haven. Gotta agree Scott's 1000 is the best bang for the buck TP. Let's see your in Custer. Well you might want to drive through Spearfish Canyon if your heading north, north east. And you've probably already thought about it but you should definitely check out the Badlands. One of the best mornings of my life was when I woke up in the Badlands after driving in late at night and sleeping in my truck. I awoke deep in the Badlands to a mid September sunrise and a heard of buffalo surrounding my truck. It was so spectacular!
Welcome to the black hills! I live in the southern hills. I'll keep an eye out for you.
Great job Chris ... Every back in Tennessee I got a place you can stay 60 miles west of Nashville you stay for free .
Love the video. Scenery beautiful.
awesome as always! as for your tp / paper towel problem, maybe consider dropping the extras off at the local food bank on your way out of town, it's probably not far from where you shop and won't cost you any extra.
I don’t know how much time you spend on shooting and editing but you’ve got some of the most polished imagery on UA-cam. Wouldn’t think that a guy riding around in a Jeep could be that visually appealing but its hard not to watch. Thanks!
Wow it's like another world out there
Man. That place is amazing.
The desolation, solitude, and lack of noise was something to behold! Hard to imagine that the area was all underwater at some time in the past. Thanks for posting.
Really enjoyed your video. Safe travels.
Awesome episode 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Chris, love the video, great scenery. Nothing says gas like Hot Tamales on an empty stomach, LOL.
In india, I have been watching u consistently for about 2 years.ur life is like sages ,moving around in nature.i want to live like this but am scared of the loneliness.
No need to be afraid of loneliness, atleast in India. Why? Because in India we have lots of people everywhere (so being lonely is out of question) And if you find a place without people there are plenty of wild animals.
that landscape is worth being a little thirsty. awesome
South Dakota is very cold country. Beautiful night skies
Always Great!!!!
A W E SO M E L A N D S C A P E S ! ! ! Thanks a lot to share it!!! Blessings from Chile!!!
I am heading to South Dakota week of October 12. One of the places I want to visit is HuGh Glass monument.. it’s nothing big but he is one of my iconic pioneer heroes. Revenant was the movie “based “ on his ordeal.
Thanks Chris, have a great couple of weeks off!
Custer looks like a real neat town.
I love the Big Horns. My favorite place in Wyoming. Ten Sleep brewery is pretty awesome place. Next time your there.. try a beer called "Speed Goat" its amazing. I live in Wyoming. Come on back anytime. Safe travels.
Your new camera is AH-MAZING! I've never seen such beautiful spaghetti! :)
Another good one. You getting better at everything to do worth your show! Not that you were ever bad but shots and dialogue are very professional!
Welcome to the Black Hills. I live in Rapid City and work throughout the Hills. I will keep an eye out and maybe I will run into you.
As usual great video
I wish I would have known you were out here in the Black Hills! Would have given you the ultimate tour! Maybe next time. Happy trails!
Judith the Jeep we would love to know if there is a jeep club out in Custer? We live nearer to Pringle off RT385? Carroll Creek. Thanks!
Cool Beans! I subcribed to your channel! i have one also, check it out sometime? Lol!
Isn't the gasoline heater working? I thought you used it in MT....anyways great family entertainment as always! Thanks from MT!
Hi @BigRiver! The gas heater is working very well. It was repaired this past spring. It’s prone to carbon build-up at higher altitudes so I only use it sparingly in high altitude situations.
My husband hates Scott brand toilet paper. I swear you and I are the only two people on earth that think it lasts the longest! Great video
Great video thank you!
I buy single rolls of TP and paper towels at the local Dollar tree. Also buy most of my camp foods there as well; weekend of food and drinks to cover a weekend camping trip cost me less than fifteen bucks my last adventure. We will miss you next week but you deserve the break. Enjoy!
you sure found an epic spot
It is my privilege to watch your vids and not your obligation to provide me entertainment so you don’t owe me a reason for not meeting a timeline. Thank you for sharing your videos. 👍👍👍
Welcome to the Black Hills Chris 😁
PVC pipe the same diameter as tp and paper towel rolls, spray painted any color you like and attached to the outside of your Jeep. That being said it looked like you had plenty of room to put it in your backseat.
thanks! you the best
So when you gonna take the leap and get a drone for amazing aerial shots?!? Your camera work has always been outstanding, but a drone would add a whole new level! PUN INTENDED!!
Paul Pumpaly, I was just thinking the same thing
Majestic and Stunning night skyscrapers. Be a great time elapsed picture.
Paper towels & T/P - Walgreens or Rite Aide sells the pool perfect amount needed. Were you able to spend a evening at the Sheep Mt Fire L/O? Again, time elapsed pictures. Awesome footage this week. Better by the week. Keep up the good work... thank you
Reminds me of the descriptive part of Wes Anderson movies lol 😂
beautiful video
Thelma didn’t seem to fond of you opening the gate and driving through her pad lol
Watched a video of a girl hiking where there was rocky terrain, she fell and fractured her hip. To move a 1/4 on an inch was excruciating pain. She only had her cell on her with no service. By Gods grace her friends reported her missing and a search began, Be careful out there.
If your airbag light is going on and off with that dinging, it’s your clock spring in the steering wheel. Some years had a recall.
I was in kaibab NF yesterday, the aspens were turning too
Thank you!
