There seems to be a bit more room to work with in the Z31's engine bay than with the Z32. With the Z32 the engine is smushed in there pretty good. In the Z31 there's a good bit of space all around
@TheAirsoftbeast22 When you add more air under pressure, as with a turbocharging, you increase the compression ratio, which adds more power. But you need more fuel to be mixed with that air. If the car's fuel injection can't add enough fuel, your engine goes boom. "How much boost" is a loaded question that depends on lots of factors.
I'm really hoping you respond to me because I am planning to do this swap as well. Sir, I was wondering when you swap that motor in the z31's engine bay. How's the work space for when you need to fix thing?
@TheAirsoftbeast22 psi is the pressure from the turbo. too much is god if you got enough fuel so it wont fuel cutting and cooling, but if you don't have that the pistons and rods can melt or you can get ignition knocking
That motor doesn't sit farther forward than the stock one, I don't know why people are saying that. If it does sit any farther forward it's not more than 1 inch. Look at 3:58 at the back of the block and go outside and look at your Z31 and it's the same. It may look like a smaller gap with the VG30ET because of the exhaust crossover pipe being right there.
Nice swap guys, freed up a TON of space! Hey i recently blew a rod bearing due to oil starvation. The engine i had was running 555 inj, bored .40 over, wiseco pistons + a ton of other upgrades. Do you think it would be cheaper to get a new engine & upgrade that one or to crack open the engine and replace/fix and possible machine work?
Do these guys work at a commercial shop here in NY, or is this a garage build? I found a place in VA that I've talked to about doing a RB25det in z31, but these 2 videos have made me want to look into the VG30dett. thanks for posting, peace
I'm not sure why you would want to swap in an engine (RB25) with lower displacement, is not bolt in, and is hard to get parts for. I think you should just rebuild. Plenty of power to be had with the engine the car originally came with.
are you in NYC? you can come down to the shop and speak with us we can definitely do yours. You can also see her in person. We are currently building my personal vg30dett
I want to know how this thing would feel in the corners... I mean it looks like the VG30dett sits about 4 or 5 inches farther away from the fire wall than the vg30e... am I wrong?? I think that would throw the balance way off... correct me if im wrong please... cause I really want to do this swap...
The Electromotive GTP ZX Turbo race car, which used the VG30ET, could put out 1000RWHP in qualifying trim. I saw a dyno chart and peak boost was at around 100 inches of mercury, which converts to around 50 psi. Race cars can do some pretty retarded things. Unfortunately I cannot post the URL to the dyno chart here because of the dumb comment rules. Send me a message and I'll send you the link.
Unless you got the engine super cheat or for free then i can see the swap being worth it, but the VG30ET is far better and cheaper to build getting more out of it then the VG30DETT.

Did you end up finishing it???

You guys did a good job fitting that big wide VG30DETT though!

How did you wire this up? is there a wiring diagram somewhere for this swap? I'm planning on swapping a VG30DETT in (converted to a DET)
thats awesome, I've been wanting to do this to my z31 for a while now

if i wanted to put a vg30de from a z32 into my 87 z31 would it work and what transmission would i need to use? help please and thanks

hi hoping you can help me how do you do the wiring thats where im stuck now any help please
Did you get it done? (Just wondering)

nice. Lets see it run
Funnily enough, you can buy a Z34 short block from Nissan for about $3,700. A entire engine (without accessories) is $6,000

can some one brake down what the whole psi thing is and why too much it bad or good or what not??????????????????
lol i would like to see the VG30ET hold 600hp daily driven reliably. sorry 4 valves will always out flow 2 valves no matter the design.
I want to drop a rb30tt in my z31, does anyone know what modifications I need to make?
Where can I get a vg30dett swap ?
its the same exact block except for small changes... lol
Thanks!!!
where can you do that at lol?
your location
Swap the vg30et into a z32 na
your 88 kicks my 88's ass D:
This car is done entirely wrong. haha
Do you know if it ever actually ran?
