Crazy Plant Guy I might repot my golden pothos. I’ve noticed it’s needing water much more often. The roots aren’t coming out of the bottom yet though. Such a great video! Thank you! 💚
I noticed my golden stopped growing after months of continuous growth. He went from growing about a foot a month even through the winter to declining. I pulled him out of the pot and he was wrapped around the terra cotta pot I had him in. I repotted him and he is doing much better and even putting out new growth 🥰
I've never really felt the need to comment on any UA-cam video as I'm really just here to watch. However, your channel has been so educational, calming, and fun to watch and I just thought you should know! Thank you for sharing all your plant knowledge!
Suzanne here, i collect water jars and unusual ones, all shapes, clear glass of course i have many many pothos, but over a span of 40 plus years of growing this plant, i find they do much better simply growing in plain water, i have some in soil, but they simply do not do as well as the ones do in water. and YEs they can last a life time in plain water, and grow much better, than in soil, i have many hanging in soil, but i take cuttings often and am always making more and more, i love watching the roots grow, there is one rule with this kinda growing them, change the water 2 times a week and keep it clean, remove any dead items, and enjoy water growing
I actually just started this a few weeks ago,my pathos are soooo long didn't know wht to do, so I nervously cut a piece of the vine & put it in a small bowl,& it's rooting now, looks so cool!
@@RizzyTips It depends on the soil that has been used by the seller po ☺️ But pothos are very low maintenance. I forgot that I commented here 10 mos ago, my pothos now has so many propagations, i have pothos that are trailing down and climbing up 😁😁

They sell them at every nursery in Southern California, I love them, haven’t had one in a while, and they are so easy to propagate as well. So just buy one plant, and within a year you’ll have several to give away as gifts or keep growing.
I just got my second and third Pothos today! I got a neon and a second golden Pothos. (which I put with my first golden Pothos since it was a single cutting) I didn’t realize how beautiful the neon Pothos’ were until I saw my new one! Also I’m going to have my golden trail down and my neon climb up!

Awesome video I just bought a Marble Queen Pothos so now I know when it gets bigger that I can drape it up a moss pole. My new Pothos is a hanging one right now. I was so excited to finally find one.
Whenever repotting I start strong, then start to think to myself "what have I gotten myself into" after it's all out on the table. It's always the most stressful part. My worst time was with my string of pearls.. it was only in a 2 inch container, and the roots weren't the reason for repotting but the pearls on top were all on top of each other with no sign of growth (like they had been propegated a tonne, but I was a noob at the time). I just started taking them out and they came out in one piece, but after the soil fell off I noticed it was a million separate 'strings' with hardly any roots. I did move them to a bigger container so all the 'strings' were in soil (most stressful and difficult repotting ever) and they almost died from shock but they have started vining again after their recovery and it warms my heart. I don't think I'll ever repot it again 😅
Thoroughly njoyd. I was just looking at my pothos yesterday, thinking about poling them upward and upgrading a couple pots to bigger sizes. Thanks for that confirmation that its time....
I learned from JoyUsGarden that when repotting vining plants you can put it in a pillow case and that’ll make it easier to hold and keep out the way when trying to rearrange and put in soil.
Great tip, also about the garbage bag below! I have to repot an established pothos with loooooong vines, today! which is why I'm here, so I really appreciate this tip.

I'm growing three house plants currently 2 cacti and a golden pothos i had 1 cactus then a friend of mine reached out on Facebook she had a 2 plants that were dying and needed a green thumb tons of the Ivy's leaves browned and fell off the long branches were like paper thin feeling half the leaves were yellow or dead the other drooping down to the ground,I cleaned the pot up nice anything wilted or bad I pulled off watered it nice and it took no time to recover it seems 😊

Enjoyed watching this video 😊 I recently added moss poles to my Golden Pothos, Scindapsus Pictus Argyraeus, Neon Pothos and Heart Leaf Philodendron. I am getting a Marble Pothos and an Adansonii tomorrow and will be adding moss poles to those also. I love the look of the leaves reaching up and spreading out.
Thats awesome. Now that I did this with the golden. I actually want to do the same with my Jade Satin Scindapsus. I want to see how big their leaves get when it climbs.
This made me feel so much better because I repotted my golden pothos that I’m not sure if it was in a 6in or 8in nursery pot (I purchased as 8”) and so I bought a 10in pot and got freaked out at how big it was. I also added a moss pole. Now I’m not scared it will die lol
Excessively large pots invite root rot. Always pot up one size pot only. Planting multiple plants into the same pot can cause die-off, as one plant can choke the other. Moss poles require off-center planting which also invites root rot. This creates large areas of soil which roots do not occupy, and therefor will not dry the soil.
@@agile828mn it’s been thriving all these months later! It didn’t seem to be several plants potted up. Just a huge full golden pothos that had probably been outside
@@tayr3836 This will certainly work more often than not, but is typically a technique you wouldnt give out as advice to beginning growers. There is a high enough chance of failure that it isnt wise to tout as a "life hack" for stylizing a pothos. When a nursery uses similar techniques, they can account for their failure rate by planting high volume. If a person has one plant, this technique may leave the person unhappy with your advice and having to buy a new plant. Cheers

Thank you for this video. I have a monstera that already has a moss pole but she needs repotting. Do you have a video about repotting a plant that already has a moss pole? Should I avoid repotting it?
Hi, this randomly came up in a search for me. I just purchased a golden pothos & was interested to know when you say “8 inch pot” for example, do you mean the height of the pot ( bottom to top ) or the diameter? ( width ) Thank you, this was a really informative demonstration. 🙏🏽
Hi I just bought my pothos 2 months ago.. How will I know if it’s time to repot them?? Do I check the roots? If the roots are not showing do I wait till next spring?
I just got some plants from someone. Several need to be repotted. I was going to give them a few weeks in their new location with me before repotting. Would it be ok to repot then?
Very informative great video! My question is I recieved a pothos plant from my awesome neighbor and she originally gave it to me in water. A year has passed and I’ve kept it in water and the plant seems to be doing well. It’s very bright and green but grows pretty slowly although it’s root system is getting pretty crazy and very big but I’m wondering would it be very bad to transport it to soil or will that be too jarring to it’s system to suddenly be put in soil. I don’t want to kill the plant because I care for it and want to do my best to keep it alive. Any advice would be gladly appreciated thanks :)
I love them I have a neon and it's just starting to trail down I want to get another one to climb up and I've found a gorgeous heart shaped moss pole that I could use
Woow!! Very nice ...I has this green plant too in my home.. But ,suddenly its stop growing up..I am upset now, I has one question!! please, reply ...Which soil is best for this plant & how much quantity of it??? I will wait for your reply.....
I just got a BEAUTIFUL marble queen pothos from a box store. It's wayyyy overcrowded and root bound, and in sopping wet soil. I think I need to split and repot. It's November here in the gloomy PNW. Wish me luck! Am I making a mistake? The overcrowding and overwatering are both kinda extreme so I'm not sure I can let it wait
Is that silver falls in the background? I've grown them for 3 years now in my window box. I love them and want them year round. Can they grow as indoor plants?
I just got a queen marble pothos and the pot it came in looks to be too small for the plant. But I don’t know if I should repot it because it is January. Does it matter if it’s an indoor plant?
If I wait till then I'm gonna totally forget so is it OK to repot in the fall? how can I make my pothos as 'comfortable' as possible given that I have to do it now?
I’m a new subscriber and enjoying your videos 😊 I’m wondering about your references to🪴repotting in Spring (warmer weather).I live in So Cal and mostly sunny all year…house temp stays pretty constant as well. Does it matter when I do repotting with this situation? Thank you!
Hey there, I love your channel and have learned a lot! I bought a pothos two weeks ago. I’ve only watered it once, but noticed a yellow leaf. I noticed that the soil doesn’t seem to drain any water and when I bottom watered it, the plant never seems to wick any water to the top. Should I repot it in new soil?
Hmm I’ve never bottom water but if it’s not going up to the top of the soil, it must be getting clogged in the soil. I would repot and some sure the soil is a bit airy and loose. Or you can just loosen the soil that it’s in right now .
I'd love to see someone repot an established pothos from a big box store. I have that's completely rootbound and has roots coming out of the top of the soil.. it needs repotted BADLY but I'm terrified to lose it. It's easy to repot a pothos that you've repotted previously. Not so much when you've got one from a big box store that's been over and underwatered consistently.
All of my pothos are trailing. I picked up my first golden about a month ago and he trailed as far as the bottom of the pot and has made a u-turn and is climbing up without any supports. I've moved him, turned him and everything else but he's determined to grow upwards. Should I just add some supports and see where he goes?
I know this is an old video... if you have a trailing plant, is it OK if the base of the plant is in the bright indirect sunlight, and the foliage hangs down mostly out of the light? Or will it suffer if the whole thing isn't in the bright indirect light?
If the soil is old it will be nutrient deficient. Repotting about once a year is important to at least get new soil in there for nutrients. Repotting doesn't always have to mean upsizing the pot
I Have A Couple Of Manjulas In 4 inch Pots That I Definitely Want To Graduate To 6 Inch Hanging Pots. IF My Trusted Plant Seller, ThePlantFarm On Etsy Comes Out With MORE 4 Inch Pots Of Cebu Blues THEN I Will Be Repotting THEM Into 6 Inch Hanging Pots Like I Did With The Others!!! Who’s going to repot their Pothos this Spring? Are you going to have them trail down or climb up?

Is it always ideal to stake during the repotting?
I love them
I have a neon and it's just starting to trail down
I want to get another one to climb up and I've found a gorgeous heart shaped moss pole that I could use
Hi. Where do you buy the plastic pots? I can’t find them anywhere. Have been looking for an 8 inch short one.
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you
Neon pothos is my favorite 😍
So I don't really know much about plants but I was wondering what you do with the old soil? Is it reusable or do you throw it away?
Pothos are pretty resilient if they’re super rootbound just repot. They’ll be fine.
@@CrazyPlantGuy thanks for the reply! 😄 Glad to hear that.
Hi Christian, what do you do with the soil that you removed the pothos from? Or any other plant that you repot?
Can you reuse it or...?
I’m not an expert, but it probably wouldn’t be the best since most the nutrients will have been drained by previous plant
My Devil's Ivy(golden pothos) is one of my favorites!!
Is that silver falls in the background? I've grown them for 3 years now in my window box. I love them and want them year round. Can they grow as indoor plants?
Wow love the pearl and Jade and the neon pathos!! I have the golden pathos plants and love them I want more varieties !!
I can never decide, new plant Mum ... just hit spring time here in New Zealand so bought two of each, one to pile up and one to hang and trail :)
I just recently found your channel on UA-cam and I have been loving watching your videos. Where do you get your pots from?
Thank you. I get them pretty much anywhere that has simple clean white pots. Walmart, IKEA, Canadian tire, furniture and home decor shops
@@CrazyPlantGuy Thank you so much. I truly appreciate you letting me know.
Did you fill your new pot 1/3 full first? So the roots don't need to go all the way down near the bottom of the container?
I love your channel. Thank you for sharing your skills
Do you leave your plants alone during winter when they hibernate or you still to re-potting, etc.?
Rahel Horvat I recommend you don’t repot them during the winter only because they typically will grow slower and are more dormant or hibernating.
Is it necessary to loosen up soil when repotting? Some said don’t disturb the roots and some loosen up the soil
Plant Guy, what are the pins you are using to attach the photos to the moss pole, called? :) Loyda
I’m a new subscriber and enjoying your videos 😊 I’m wondering about your references to🪴repotting in Spring (warmer weather).I live in So Cal and mostly sunny all year…house temp stays pretty constant as well. Does it matter when I do repotting with this situation? Thank you!
hi! i just subscribed to your channel. what do you do with the used soil? can it be used again?
Hey there, I love your channel and have learned a lot! I bought a pothos two weeks ago. I’ve only watered it once, but noticed a yellow leaf. I noticed that the soil doesn’t seem to drain any water and when I bottom watered it, the plant never seems to wick any water to the top. Should I repot it in new soil?
Hmm I’ve never bottom water but if it’s not going up to the top of the soil, it must be getting clogged in the soil. I would repot and some sure the soil is a bit airy and loose. Or you can just loosen the soil that it’s in right now .
What is the need or benefit of removing the old soil?
Depending how old the soil is, but it loses its nutrients over time.
A question what do you put at the bottom of your pots to stop the potting mix from coming out from below in those grower pots?
Look up “plant pot mesh”. You can put down a square of mesh over the holes to help stop the soil from falling out without disturbing drainage
All of my pothos are trailing. I picked up my first golden about a month ago and he trailed as far as the bottom of the pot and has made a u-turn and is climbing up without any supports. I've moved him, turned him and everything else but he's determined to grow upwards. Should I just add some supports and see where he goes?
Interesting information
It's already September, should I be repotting my new pothos now?
I know this is an old video... if you have a trailing plant, is it OK if the base of the plant is in the bright indirect sunlight, and the foliage hangs down mostly out of the light? Or will it suffer if the whole thing isn't in the bright indirect light?
Hi Christian, do you throw away the old soil? Or do you keep them for other plants to be repotted?
It depends how old the soil is? What I’ll do is I’ll mix them with organic compost and use it for my balcony plants.
Think I prefer trailing for these. Thanks for the video.
Do you use the soil from the pots they are taken out of for later plant potting? How do you refresh the soil? Is that necessary? Thanks!
If the soil is old it will be nutrient deficient. Repotting about once a year is important to at least get new soil in there for nutrients. Repotting doesn't always have to mean upsizing the pot
I wanna be friends..idk why but ur vibes are so pure
Such a helpful video as always! Thank you💚💚 I also love my plastic pots!
Trail for now. 😀 Good job!
Thank you. Trailing Thursday. 😆🌿
