Man Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers absolutely nailed that song. I cannot imagine it being done any better. As always, Tom's singing takes the intelligence of the lyrics and makes them seem real.
Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Celebration concert from 1992. It's a magnificent live double-album, with most every superstar from that era, covering Bob's music. Worth its weight in gold.
As many of Bob Dylan’s do.. His Song Catalog is incredible and even his Newer Albums from the late 90’s thru last year’s Album lyrically are still very strong

Tom Petty is pretty close to Bobby when singing his songs. I'm glad Tom had the opportunity for this before he passed away. I pray he's in peace during his rest. He deserves this.

I don't usually like people attempting to cover Dylan, but I have to admit unlike Hendrix, Clapton, G'n'R and others (many of whom I am also a fan of) Tom and the boys did it well.

Neil Young, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Roger McGuinn were also on the bill, with a few others, including Dylan himself. And yes, it was a great night.
Are you implying Hendrix didn't do Dylan justice, grow some ears -Bob never did All Along the Watchtower the same after hearing Jimi's improved version ,and Like a Rolling Stone from Monterey Pop is as good as it gets IMO.
He's one of the few musicians who actually sounds like Dylan, and isn't imitating him. It's almost as if Dylan taught people a new way of singing, or rather expressing themselves while they sing.
Donald "Duck" Dunn was the "house" bass player that night. He passed away a few years back. He and Steve Cropper were in The Blues Brothers, and go all the way back to the 1960's. Legends.

As one of the most poignant and meaningful writers Tom is one of the few who can be trusted with words of Bob Dylan. I call it Bob's snarl than no man can copy. Never will anyone write and sing so composed and restrained as Bob so that even those the song attacks cannot escape its meaning or logic. Then those that understand it, it evokes that hope of change but anger filled with sadness and frustration towards those ignorant to the message.

He and the HB toured with Bob for almost 2 years, they were pretty close. Bob’s son Jakob idolized Tom and spent a lot of time with him as well.
