    when I moved to venice beach , i would see a grey haird man around town and mused how much he looked like Richie Havens turns out it was . we spoke in a restaurant one night and i asked him " excuse me but didn't i see you play guitar on a farm in New York once ?"
    he just smiled and said
    yes i did play once on a little farm in New York " at the time i thought it was a cool moment for both of us .awesome nice guy.

      I had a chance to meet him by chance the first time. I was working at the front desk of a hotel in SF. While I was bending down counting some Amex travelers checks there was a voice the clerk asked your name Sir the reply was Havens n without looking I just loudly said Richie n the man said Yes. I turned around and saw the warmest smile on Richie Havens face. The clerk stool aside and said if I wanted to continue checking Richie in so I stepped in and was having a best conversation with my most beloved singer n song writer. I gave Richie the best room I had with a view n he agreed to sign my album if I brought it in the next day. I still have that double album till today 🙏🙏🙏
      RIP Richie Havens. I have see him so many times in concerts 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 once for $5 at the San Francisco State University, he was helping the students in the University 🙏🙏🙏

      I met him once too, he was getting ready to board a plane to a little music festival called Woodstock. He looked tired and said he’d rather have someone take his place. I looked into his deep knowing eyes and said if I could I would. He then informed me that he had a machine that could put my consciousness into his body including his musical skills. Since that day I have been Richie Havens, and always will be. True story.

    22 people who disliked this video has a cold stone at the place of their heart. Using Dylan's words, Havens is singing just about them. "All he believes are his eyes /
    And his eyes, they just tell him lies."

    • @jorgejohnson451
      @jorgejohnson451 2 роки тому

      Make that 23. I don’t know much about music, but Havens seems to have trouble determining the tempo he wants to play or sing the song.
      Haven knows a whole heck a lot about music then I’ll ever know, but to my EARS (not EYES), this seems unsteady.
      Just my opinion.

    • @familytreemusic
      @familytreemusic 2 роки тому

      @@jorgejohnson451 it's his own thing: the tempo flutters and follow the motion of the delivery. That's the reason he almost always performed solo: to do this with a band could be problematic.

    still had the magic & kept his great vocal talent all his performing life great musician singer & song writer some thing ele again is my fav lp.rip mr havens you made a lot of people happy & had talent of the highest order & used it.he sang from the heart & soul with a deep & truthful message.which is potent.singing about real life real issues & trying to make society better for everyone.but sadly rap music & new bands today can only sing about hate which is why this is the real deal & will always stand the test of time.unlike the many fakes brought on to pay to play fakes radio who are only in it for the money & will soon be forgotten no one will forget richie havens great post..
