Why Did the Ref Call a Foul on Biado But Not on Gorst? Share your opinions and insights below!
I believe the current rules were changed sometime in the past 10 years. They used to be where a miscue was NOT a foul (except for the intentional "scoop" shot to jump). The update to the rules is that if the ref can determine that the ferrule/shaft touched the CB on a miscue, then it IS a foul. The Baido shot it looks and sounds like the ferrule touched the CB. The Gorst shot it does not look that way.
Ref did a good job on both calls 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fedor's shot did jump. A Legal jump shots are hit above the center line and bounce the cue ball in the air. Fedor did a draw shot which means he hit the cue ball on the bottom half. That is NOT a legal jump shot.
Under the WPA rules, a DELIBERATE miscue (eg a scoop shot with the intention of jumping the ball) is a foul. An accidental miscue is not a foul, unless the ref determines that the CB hit some other part of the cue (eg the ferrule).
In Biado’s case, the ref concluded that his ferrule did hit the CB. In Gorst’s case, presumably the ref couldn’t determine that the CB hit the ferrule. The “jump” point is irrelevant- Fedor was not trying to miscue to jump (or any other deliberate miscue).
Accidental miscue, it’s not a foul ‘scoop shot’
damn that is alot of incompetence in a sentence
@@gideonf8696 On the replay, it doesn't look like Biado double hit the CB. After the miscue, his cue tip went upwards. In regards with the draw shot that jump, then Fedor's shot was legal if that is the rule. But it doesn't make sense, a draw shot that jumped, intentionally or not should be an automatic foul. Just my opinion.
@@gideonf8696 how the fk did you know what the referee saw? Did you ask him yourself genius?
Assumption is the mother of all fk ups.....so stop assuming!
The commentator opinion is, if a player miscue and his cue went on Top of the Cue Ball, it is a foul. But Gorst miscue didn't go above the Cue Ball, also the Cue ball he said, didn't go over the 7 ball/object ball. I don't know about their rules. But for me, even if the cue, went above the cue ball, as long as it didn't touch the cue ball twice, for me it isn't a foul. Both should have been a no call. Biado's cue didn't touch the cue ball twice.
Well said. Agree
you need to watch a better slow mo... biado's ferrule clearly hit the top of the cue ball after initial contact.
@poolace if he hit the cue ball twice, then the cue ball will slow down or stop ,as far i see is he didn't hit it twice.
@@MacKulit2021Nailed it.
How the hell can people determine this without slow motion cameras is beyond me.
And really, unless there is clear evidence of a foul (e.g. slow motion review), it should *not* be called a foul just because it *might* have been, i.e. doubts go to the shooter.
Biado's foul was the fact his ferrule touched the cueball, a part of the shaft not allowed to touch the cueball in tournament play. And Gorst just miscued...not a foul ANYWHERE unless you double hit the ball or touch it with another part of cue or goes off table or something similar
Good call by the ref.
Biado is a sportsman and a gentleman. Look at the temperament after the win. No sign of any ill will or negativity because he left it all on the table. That's a champion right there.
The way I see it Biado didn't commit a foul when he miscued his shot. Gorst's miscued shot wasn't foul too. I think the ref was playing favoritism.
Racist
Wow, to me this looms perfectly officiated. Biado rolls over the ball with his cue, which is illegal, while Fedor's miscue is a standard unintentional low cue ball hit without fully lifting the ball. Imo seems reasonable
Well said.
If you watch Biado he hit the cue ball twice and Gorst didn't I watched it live they even showed it in slow motion the ref got both calls right it was unfortunate tlbut it happens Biado still won and played a hell of a match and I a Gorst fan
It looks like after Biados miscue his cue taps the cue ball again. That’s why the ref called a foul.
miscue is NOT a foul in the rule book, but double hit after the miscue could call a foul. This is hard to judge the double hit in replay IMO, not a foul.
Fine example of a great ref. Good call
Simple. A foul is called when anything other than the cue tip touches the cue ball. In Biado's case, the ferrul touches the cue ball as the cue bounced over the cue ball which is a foul. For Fedor's case, the cue ball jumped away from the cue tip after contact with the cue tip, so no other parts of the cue touched the cue ball after contact which is not a foul. U can see and hear it clearly in the slow motion.
If biado's cue tip touched the cue ball that ball wouldn't travel on in a straight line or continue to move with that momentum
Good call by the ref 🫡
Players should be able to challenge a call/no call by reviewing the play in slow motion..just like in a tennis game.
It clearly didn't touch the cue tip otherwise that white ball wouldn't continue moving with that momentum and in a straight line. It's simple physics
Tapyok..that's what we call it in Filipino, a miscue. Should not be a foul in my opinion.
Unintentional miscues are not fouls even on shots that jump, but if you skip over top and make a second touch after the cue leaves the ball the first time. It is a foul. Referees for once got it 100% correct here.
You should watch the match between Biado and Ko Ping Chung, Biado's hand touched the 8-Ball during his stroke, ref didn't saw, Biado didn't admit too.
got the time stamp on it?

Similar to Efren vs Mika in the winner take all challenge of champions. Efren touch the 8 ball more obvious but the ref nor the audience nobody noticed it.
IMO when a player cheats and is dishonest then the win means nothing. I ALWAYS give ball in hand when I foul. Whether a ref sees it or not.
@@timsoong I meant the Biado vs Ko.
They are same comitted foul but the reef showing his true side😂😂.
He should not have shaken the refs hand in protest and also ask for change of ref next time.
the ref ,naka posta kay fedor 😭😤😂😅😄😃😢🤕👍
side betting can cause confusion 😂
If biado's miscue is a foul, fedor's should also be a foul because his was a scoop shot
A scoop shot is not a foul when it’s an unintentional miscue. It’s only a foul if a player is attempting to purposely jump it and scoops it.
that's what I'm saying. so basically biado did not commit a foul because it is an unintentional miscue.
@@ramensospicy2992 no. If you miscue but then your cue touches the cue ball twice it’s still a foul. Biabo blatantly hit the cue ball again.
@@tjblackartist that's what happens on a scoop shot. The tip hits the ball, then the ferrule hits the ball. So it's the same thing
@@ramensospicy2992 not necessarily. I can jump a ball with my regular cue. It’s just a miscue.
Dr.Dave did a video recently showing miscues in super slow motion, and he found that with a miscue like Carlo's, the cue tip vibrates and hits the ball multiple times as it passes over. Sometimes you can hear it -- it's not a clean click -- which I presume is why the ref called that shot a foul, but not Fedor's similar shot. Current WPA rules say that an unintentional miscue is not itself a foul (subject to the other rules of a legal hit), which is why that scoop wasn't called, but Dr.Dave argues that it really should be because of the multiple hits. ua-cam.com/video/quijBUMznII/v-deo.htmlsi=f7Om1ik_s3k5uqaX
Neither foul call had any impact on the outcome anyway so no big deal, although I don’t like the Lredator format or their refs.
The referee is in favor or Gorst, also racist! 🤣😂
Ball don't lie 😂
in Gorst's shot, there's more chance that his stick slid under the ball, and then ball hit ferrule, that's why it jumped. it got scooped. both of their shots are really difficult to judge, but if the ref deemed the first to be foul without being 100pct sure, then he should have done the same on Gorst's shot. biased dude.
Bias Yung ref, kasi. European Yung ref at si Fedor Gorst ay European too.
😮
Dinaya nila c the champ buti ndi umobra😁😁😁
Ref next time ur not ref it good to you as an audience
Miss cues are not a foul
Ref what are u doing? U want to win fedor😂anyway god knows who’s the best player🇵🇭👏👏👏
under pool rules, only the tip of the cue stick is allowed to touch the cue ball. sa kaso ni Biado, obvious naman na hindi lang tip ang tumama sa cue ball, kaya nga nga nagka miscue sya. kaya foul yun.
sir nag lalaro kaba ng bilyar...tumapyok lang ang tira ni carlo.at alam ni carlo yon.kaya siya na gulat na tinawagan siya ng foul.
