Well done Hayley. Just recently found your vlogs and enjoy them immensely! You have such a calm and easy voice, you show us your journey and talk to us, not at us. You have certainly shown what a newbie can achieve if they have the ambition and ability. Great stuff.
the thing that got me most about a smart motorway is the fact the signs aren't every few feet, so there is no warning for drivers if something breaks down if you have passed the sign. vehicles have all different mechanical issues most of which means you cannot drive to a safe pull out, because the vehicle is immobalised within less than 1/2 a mile especially on an uphill stretch. so it was always a disaster waiting to happen, you look at how much trouble a car on a slip road causes by doing 30 mph onto the motorway these days is an extremely high accurance especially here in Wales, stuff on the motorway isn't expecting such slow speeds, and relying on other traffic to warn them look this driver is doing something extremely dangerous you probably need to change lanes. like I was on the brakes, and flashing my hazards to a truck driver that was fast approaching on the motorway, even though the sliproad was roughly 600 metres long and nearly 100% straight section, and on a downhill, and the car infront couldn't get up to speed until after entering the motorway, whereas when I was taught to drive, you match the speed with the motorway, which depending on length of slip road meant 70 mph, and then adjusting your speed close to the end of the sliproad if there were trucks or something close to the exit of the sliproad onto the motorway.
yeah once you got the know how for reversing, it is like riding a bike most of the time. the hardest thing is/was getting over the fear factor for the reversing, and having the knowledge for how you want to set up for the reverse, which the driving lessons want you to learn the hardest way only for a new driver, but there again once you master that, then they should also teach the easy way as well, and then just test you the hard way on your driving test if they wanted. while I know the clutch does heat up with so much use of it, probably why they only teach the hardest way, and then get you to drive the rest of the lesson so that they clutch can cool off again.
Nice one Hayley I hope you both have a fantastic holiday and whoever came up with the idea of smart motorways wasn't all that smart in my humble opinion of course Hayley and until the next vlog you all take good care of yourselves won't you
Great to see you vlogging, is the new job Traffic Warden on ALR motorways 🛣 . 😁🥴🤣😱. Yes, ALR motorways are contentious, for all vehicles, the proposed lay bys are far and in-between. Great to hear you've inspired new truck drivers, part of your extended family maybe?. Safe trip abroad, you'll love it. Thanks for sharing and stay safe all.
i see your back @ Ks transport Hayley, as for smart motorways, in the area of Brum on the m42 sections years ago with the variable speed limits on a friday afternoon, annoying the constant speed limit change, but i found myself that it actually worked,i am with you on the opinion ALR is dangerous for all vehicle types there is no way you can gurantee that you will breakdown or be able to get to "a safe pull in area" on one of these ALRs, blowouts driver having seizure/heart attacks these are random things that have no correlation to the refuge areas ,whereas hard shoulder is just a pull to the left asap, my 2 pence worth :) :)
Smart motorways are a pain in the ass. I've had three near misses in the last year. Like you Hayley I just managed to pull out in time. If you don't notice the overhead signs stating the lane closed, you're unaware of the coming carnage that could result!!! New Class One drivers take note!!!! My wife is Polish and we've been married for over twenty years and I still only know the basics. More laziness than dedication I must say on my part but she does speak fluent English!!!
ALR is dangerous imho, as if you nowhere near a refuge area and something happens you are at the mercy of all types of vehicles @ up to 70 mph, the variable speed limits in my experience do work on the m42 in & around the m42 brum sections, nice to see you back at Ks transport :)
As a former professional driver, having a licence for 48 years, I agree with you that so called ''smart Motorways'' are dangerous. I have seen many instances of dangerous situations of broken down cars with passengers milling about on the road. An accident waiting to happen. Smart Motorways are nothing more than an increase of capacity on the road, on the cheap, at the expense of safety. I avoid them if I can.
They are not dangerous at all. Smart motorways are exactly the same, but better than a typical every day dual carriageway that's been around for decades
Seen a breakdown on the M62 and the live lane still had a 50MPH limit showing ( no red cross ) so drivers were diving out of lane 1 into 2 pushing those in that lane across etc First time I thought these don't work . Planes are are safe as they are manoeuvrable it's the mountains that are not .🤣.Enjoy the hols.
Analysis of this video. Stomach pains = pregnancy. Visit to boyfriends home to announce engagement/pregnancy news. New role = Motherhood. Role alongside that one = wife and HGV driver/teacher. OK may not be right but just something a bit different to all the other comments. Smart motorways invented by someone who has never experienced a breakdown or accident on the motorway. Just a bad idea we need a safe zone on all fast roads. Good luck on your first flight I have also never flown and never want too. There is a bit on the A54 where you can experience weightlessness for just over a second in the wagon and that's good enough for me. Also don't do trains or boats and try to avoid bridges and tunnels but that's a bit difficult for a lorry driver. All the best Hayley.
Great reversing, I am hoping that I am not being overlooked for more training on the paperbank lorry with HIAB, feeling like everyone else is getting trained but I am stuck with either the dustcart or box lorry, I do prefer the dustcart but driving with a non driving mate, I don't have the option to chicken out of awkward collections but face them
It's a drivers market if you've got a class one, I drive for Boughey's and it's the most laid back company I have ever worked for. They also seem to give new drivers a go. Boughey's are based in Wardle near Nantwich if that's anywhere near you. We have four lady drivers working at Bougheys and they run it by the book!!!
hope your feeling better hun, maybe worth getting yourself checked for dervaticalitus as it's hereditary in family's and very common for hgv drivers to get it,I've got it and unfortunately quite bad
Live lanes are so dangerous. Just left a job as a recovery driver part of the reason was my safety and a near miss on the hard shoulder near mind doing one on a live lane
Hi Hayley, did the person who invented the smart motorway actually have a driving license, the unlit section of the M27 between Southampton and Portsmouth frightens the life out of me!
Smart motorways, no hard shoulders; Same as A1, A43, A34 A449, A66 and so on. Yes they should all have hard shoulders, but most car drivers sit in the outside lane playing on their phone anyway.
As a safety practitioner as well as a lorry driver I find the idea of 'smart' Mways ridiculous - everything about them is flawed except to the bean counters.... There is nowhere safe to stop, there is no way for the blue light services to get through - an accident waiting to happen - and they do
Hayley, nice driving. I want it to become a driver like you. I am a driver here in the philippines. Can you give certificate of sponsorship cos so i can work there in uk as a driver. Thank you
@@TruckDriverHayley hi, thank you for your reply. I pass the ielts exam last sept. 24, 2022 can you please recommend me i am willing to go there in uk. All my documents is ready including my passport.
Over here in Germany there are no smart motorways - we are obviously not smart enough. All we can do is speeding ... Hungarian is a nice language to listen to, but to be able to learn it, one probably needs the right genes. Greetings from Offenbach!
I'm not a fan of smart motorways as they keep dicking around putting stupid speed limits on at night and closing lanes for no reason causing huge delays! Drives me mad

How is the old truck running now
A lot better than when it was mine 😂
👍
Why are you back at K's? I thought the work was too heavy for you 🤔
I'm not back. I'm doing holiday cover for local companies whenever they need a driver. You are right, the work is too heavy full time 👍🏻
Where abouts are you from? I was born in Wordsley and my family are all from around Dudley.
Sorry I know that’s a weird thing for a complete stranger to ask you on the internet and you probably rightly won’t answer 🤦🏼😂
