  • Thank you, again, to defconzerovii#6800 for making the incredible thumbnail.
Today marks the 2nd year of me owning the CRT I am most proud of. I've been using this tube as my main PC monitor since this day, 2 years ago. What better way to celebrate than dedicating a nearly 1 hour video to it?
If you wish to skip all of my hard work put into this video, feel free to use these time stamps!
    0:00 Introduction
    0:53 Chapter 1: Specifications
    11:00 Chapter 2: History
35:29 Chapter 3: WinDAS and More
    46:04 Chapter 4: Content Montage
    51:04 Ending
    My blog for this monitor:

    Thanks for watching.

Taken from the ice, the monitor woke anew in a world filled with flatscreen displays and programming socks and catgirls. What had the world come to?

Probably everyone who comes across this video is wondering why, on Earth, before gutting and destroying one exquisite monitor after another, and once you already had the monitor completely disassembled, didn't you - at minimum - recap the power supply.
Hearing about boards destroyed, and then a tube, just hanging my head, knowing that all of this destruction and savagery could have been easier avoided.
But, at least, you did rescue it, at least for a short time (though currently it's a different tube, boards, basically a different monitor), so good job spotting that in the snow and ice.
Might be a good time to recap the current power board before it becomes irrevocably damaged yet again....

Thank you. (I wish I could get a crt too but i think it's gonna be too hard. And besides, I would need a desktop anyway for that. Oh well one can dream i guess)

Very cool info on the Hz and kHz range adjustments.
If every procure a 24kHz arcade board I'll definitely have to try adjusting the minimum on my Trinitron.

You're a natural story teller my dude! That monitor is fuckin amazing bro! I recently snagged a Dell E770s VGA CRT. Been enjoying Crysis, OG Sims, Quake 3 Arena. But the signal would go in and out randomly. Spent hours figuring out wtf... Come to find out, it was my wifi antennas for my motherboard. Disabled my mobo's wifi adapter, and used a USB wifi adapter. No issues since. Weird af...

I'm watching this on a Sony Multiscan G500 right now which I'm pretty sure this is just a redbadge of that. Mine was going to be thrown out because they chipped the center of the screen. I polished it the best I could and it turned out pretty great imo. Still has small imperfections in the depth of the glass but no scratches at least!

As someone with a IBM P260.
    It's a great monitor!
(I gotta fix mine due to a voltage leak somewhere)
Lost screen and a very faint hiss.
Amazingly the capacitors and such look brand new still.

Great video and story. I have p991 and went through hell just setting up and using windas. Luckily my only issues have been g2 issues. Rebadged Trini's are great though.

Idk if true or not but there might have been issues with the yoke as it controlls the rayguns
because of ice coroding the copper wires or cracked solder joints the magnetic field created by the yoke might cause it to be weak and unstable causing blurr

Really cool monitor. I didn't know you could go below the 31khz limit. I wonder if that's possible with my Apple Multiple Scan 17 and 20 monitors. That would be really neat on them. No OSD but adjustments aren't done via software but with the buttons on the monitor itself

watching this on my Sony Trinitron CPD G420. Picked it up this week for 165 euro with 11000 hours runtime. Hopefully it will last me until I die.

As the owner of three 22 inches trinitron monitors, this video is great to get many infos!
If i discharge the monitor, and wait a few days, do you think the bigger caps will still be able to bite me? I'm very beginner, I watch many videos to learn.
Already did yoke adjustements on working tv, putting magnet etc. But this is different.
My Sony e500 has sometimes the image which "bumps". I suspect high voltage leak, or faulty flyback. I'll have to look someday, and meanwhile it takes a rest :)

Wonderfully shot man this is easily one of the very best CRT vids I've seen on YT!!
Bit of a random question but aside from native res support, motion clarity and scanlines, do you think the best OLED's have caught up to CRT's of this calibre in terms of PQ? Specifically regarding colour lushness, accuracy (SDR), gradients & intricate detail contrasts, shadow detail, perceived dynamic range, perceived depth and overal feeling of looking through a window into a real world?
Some people have mentioned that because the natural glow of phosphors produce a higher quality of light (broader spectrum and more complete throughout) vs O/LED light which is narrow spectra, missing wavelengths within and thus very harsh (low Colour Rendering Index value i.e. 'quality') etc. And something about an entourage effect, where the additional wavelengths produced by phosphors that accompany the dominant wavelengths corresponding with the actual digital source's colour, in effect mimmicking what you would see in natural sunlight - tricking the brain and making things more natural or 'organic.' Kinda like vinyl distortion transients mimmicking what would accompany sounds IRL vs sterile PCM approximations on CD...
    All of this rhetoric kinda gets me down and makes me wish SED's were a thing or that I had've stuck with CRT's all these years ;_;

The very newest have caught up to and surpassed the best CRTs in all but very few ways, the only realistic problem for OLED now is price

Its arcing because a magnatic field is how a crt controls the raygun inside. Just like you don't put magnetes around a crt and why you can degause a crt. Sorry for bad English not my language.

    • @idkrossplay

Windas and a multimeter most likely, but you can eyeball it by calibrating the greys and using reference images and matching the colors

Hello, do you still have eeprom .dat file? I have exact G1 chasis but from Siemens 21T2. Basicly the same monitor and i cannot calibrate perfectly with windas. Once the screen is little bit reddish once green, blacks not perfect.
Can you please send me the .dat file so i can see how it will behave my monitor
    Thanks in advance!
