SMfit ACT Package Unboxing!
Hiya, this is a special one. I managed to have a fully preserved SMfit ACT package come straight from Germany. This box contains everything from the light probe to the physical disc copy. It's pretty exciting stuff.
I've uploaded the contents that I found on the disc to archive.org; feel free to check it out below:
archive.org/details/smfit-act-calibration-v-3.4-disc-contents
As always, thanks for watching. More to come soon! Currently been figuring out how to deal with the SMM21106LS. I'm hitting some walls trying to get that thing to calibrate with the probe.

Siemens SMM21106LS Unboxing!

Hey! Here's a quick 'n dirty video showing my janky process of unboxing the Siemens SMM21106LS. This is a 21" 140khz monochrome CRT, and she is a beaut. From the research I've done, this seems to be the highest end landscape monochrome CRT that was released under Siemens. Expect an exciting video showcasing and documenting this monitor in the future! It's gonna be a fun one. Until then, thanks ...

It's time for a redo of one of the highest end CRT monitors ever created! I tried to give it as much justice as I could this time around. There's tons of new information here, and an overall higher quality and entertaining experience (in my opinion) compared to the original. The original video will stay up, of course. However, this is intended to be the "definitive" video for this monitor, with...

As far as I can tell DIN6868 Acceptance test is some (German) regulatory thing to make sure devices emitting X-Rays don't overexpose people. CRTs do by nature emit small amounts of X-Rays, and I assume this is just to make sure it's beneath a certain threshold.

As the owner of three 22 inches trinitron monitors, this video is great to get many infos! If i discharge the monitor, and wait a few days, do you think the bigger caps will still be able to bite me? I'm very beginner, I watch many videos to learn. Already did yoke adjustements on working tv, putting magnet etc. But this is different. My Sony e500 has sometimes the image which "bumps". I suspect high voltage leak, or faulty flyback. I'll have to look someday, and meanwhile it takes a rest :)

If they'd improve that tech, they could easily invent other stuff. Maybe they did, and they assumed that it was a possible national security risk and with the help of ML they have abondonned.

That proves that a 4k color CRT, even if limited to 50fps or 60fps would be possible. Maybe 75hz. We just have to pressure a manofacturer to make it. There were 1440p CRT's so why wouldn't with today's tech be possible to make a full color 16:9 CRT? The weight is just a small thing to consider if a TRUE 4k color CRT is made. Awesome video! Insanely awesome actually. We need more people like you that catalog and saves everything from "obscure" things like that. Just great. (Btw I dont understand a thing about the KH'z, banwidth and things like that.)

...... This was used for medical Equipment.... They're not using the monitor continuously and Hospitals try to save a buck where ever they can. the setting that baffle you are likely settings the tech department requested so the monitors would always be ready even if the machine sat there for days not being used. Think sleep mode but only for the monitor. The features designed to not have burn in.

So much easier to set custom resolutions in linux. You wouldn't have even needed the edid thing. If you really want to see this monitor shine you'll want to send 16bpp grayscale, though you probably need a different gpu. This got used on c-arm machines where I used to work when it was new.

I used to have an old Barco projector from the 1990's that could output resolutions of up to around 2k. We used to watch 1080p videos on it with a screen i made out of wood and silver pearlescent paint. The picture was super bright and vibrant and looked incredible, especially with animated content for its solid colors and vibrant palettes. I remember watching Rango and thinking "wow, this looks damn incredible, i cant believe these still aren't being used" and then i picked it up.. over 100lbs. Lol Also the main limitations with CRT'S and resolution is the shadow mask that the Electron gun fires through it and the drive frequency of the electronics. Your monitor and my projector having single gun CRT's doesn't use a shadow mask so it's really up to the drive circuitry to drive the CRT and technically the only limit to the "resolution" is how fast you can drive the tube.

You can in fact reach all the way up to 655.35MHz on the VGA output (DVI-I, in fact) of the AMD Radeon R9 380X (and potentially other AMD GPUs of the same achitecture). Some time ago I ran a lot of tests on various old and some more recent GPUs, to figure how to reach absolute maximum bandwidth and resolutions with an integrated RAMDAC. I was able to test that by displaying the full "4K" 16:9, 3840x2160 at 60Hz in progressive on my GDM-F550, after carefully adjusting all the timings to barely squeeze that resolution within the max 655.35MHz bandwidth. That was after applying the ToastyX Pixel Clock Patcher for AMD. It was crystal clear on the F520, that was impressive! So I'm sure the Siemens has much more to give than just 550MHz bandwidth! It's really quite impressive! I only tested up to 4095 pixels limits of CRU, I didn't know about the Extension blocks, so I should test again I guess. Using interlaced though I was limited to like 424.66MHz up to 2560 horizontal, and for some weird reason above that it was limited to 411.52MHz in my notes. BIG issue though was, there was a horizontal limit of 2728 pixels... So no higher interlaced resolutions on that card. Maybe that was a driver issue or something? I don't know. For the vertical I could go up to like 8190... probably no limit, it could go higher. Now, that was before I had any clue about interlaced being possible over DisplayPort adapters. I thought HDMI was the only option, and I didn't own any good HDMI adapters (now I have a LK7112, but still not as good as the DisplayPort ones). So I recently tested both HDMI and DP on Intel iGPUs with my older 9700K, and was blown away when realising DP worked as well with my Sunix DPU3000! But on the 9700K, Intel drivers have a weird limitation of horizontal pixels, around 2560 or something? I can't find my notes on that, so that's just from memory. I had no clue with more recent Intel iGPUs I could go way higher! So last week I decided to just order a Asus Strix B660-I motherboard and test a cheap Pentium Gold G7400 with its UHD 710, and well, you know how the test went. Same as your video. I was blown away! I was able to measure the exact pixel clock limit on interlaced resolutions over DisplayPort to be 458.49MHz. I will soon get a i5 13600K to have a proper CPU and couple that with my RTX 4060 Low Profile. That said, I forgot again about the Extension blocks when testing yesterday. Just seeing your video I went back and tested again, but I can't get anything better from these, just adding more resolutions. While I can write resolutions above 4095, it just doesn't show up in Windows. Also, I see you added some resolutions with bandwidths in the 500MHz range?! After watching carefully a couple times, it looks like these resolutions don't work for you either, does it? Not quite sure here. If it works, I would be very curious to know your driver version and how you got that working... Because I definitely have a limit at 458.49MHz, and going just one decimal over, it just won't show up in Windows settings at all. Sad, considering the DPU3000 can go up to 540MHz. I would love to have that full bandwidth to play with interlaced resolutions!

Thank you for all your efforts in making this very complete video packed with great infos, about one of the highest end CRT monitor ever manufactured. Maybe one day I will get the chance to get my hands on one, or at least one of the high end Siemens black and white models, and add that to my high end CRTs collection! For your timestamps in the description, can you please add a hyphen (with spaces on each side) between the time and the title? So it is processed by UA-cam and shows up as proper chapters, appearing in the loading bar below the video. It would be perfect! As is, it doesn't show up as chapters for me, so I just guess that might be the reason, since you don't have hyphens, but everything else looks correct. I also had mild arcing issues when I got my hands on my FW900 back in 2016. It did arc for a few days mayby a week or two, and after that I never had a single arc from the flyback ever again. Still got a "compatible" replacement flyback just in case. Recently I started to have issues with a F520 I got my hands on a couple years ago. Unfortunately this one just arcs a little bit randomly every time I power it on, but after warming up it's gone. Fortunately I got my hands on an entire parts monitor that works great but has a shorted grid in the CRT for one of the colors (don't remember what color that is, but it's got one less color). Maybe one day I can fix that, but hopes are really low.
