  • You don't have to be a heavy drinker to change your relationship with alcohol and OYNB member Clare's story is a testament to this.
Clare used to be a 'social drinker' who went big on the alcohol during the weekends and as a result, spent her Sundays hungover and tired.
Being a party person who loved to drink, she was scared to let that part go as she felt that she would not have anything if that persona was gone. Losing her mother was a big motivator for her to change her drinking habits and push through the alcohol-free challenge.
Since going alcohol-free, she is experiencing better sleep quality, increased concentration span, healthy eating and exercising routines. All of this has crossed over to her studies as she can now have longer study sessions and retain more information.
With her anxiety gone and a stronger mentality to tackle everyday life situations, she is now achieving much more on a daily basis.

When I hit the drink I drink for 3-4 days sometimes 5 days I'm 43 I have lost jobs lost my mum young when I was 17 and I don't know if i ever got over it.Nearly been killed a few times, my father killed him self 4 years ago and it was so intense finding him in a room filled with smoke I thought I was going mad I could not get the images out of my mind I went on and of the drink I could not hold a job down for too long but now I'm of it 2 months and I feel great. I have a great family and I'm now looking for work. The drink took more from me than I got from it. I'm just taking one day at a time. I'm just learning to face up to my past at this age and I believe there is hope for us all..

Find your sharing is encouraging me to stop drinking alcohol.
For many years i struggled to stop, until three days ago, when i was informed by my husband that he followed me to the alcohol section of the suppermarket where i preceed to by alcohol.
I had no knowledge of this because i told him i was going to the toilet.
this came up during an argument,
I was so embarrassed, hence my journey to go alcohol free.

I am the same. Only drink on weekends but I go big very big. I need to stop ASAP. At 39 I feel the hangover worst and worst every time. I tried a few times but only got me 1-2 months clean and sober. Once you go back is even worst, like you need to recuperate the ,,lost” days while you did not drink. I am really ready mentally to stop because I got fat, my marriage is bad, ( not only from this but is a main reason) , I can t work properly on Monday because my hangover is so bad that keeps me 2-3 days if I drink to much. I usually start Friday night and stop only Saturday late afternoon with a shallow sleep on Friday night because I am dead drunk 🥴. I love that beer on Saturday morning when you are actually still drunk. I know I will do it one day but I wish that day is now. I have over 20 years of binge drinking, weekends drinking and only beer most of it. If I was a hard liquor drinker I think that I wouldn’t last in my situation. Wish me luck please. I lived in the US for a good part of my life but now we are back to Europe and the alcohol is way way way better and cheaper unfortunately
