The robot mode actually kind of resembles Transformers prime Megatron. The head, chest and overall build look very similar. In fact the hole in the chest actually resembles Megatron's dark energy on spark. And in the film Frank Welker voices him.
I kinda have a love/hate feeling about some of these Age of Extinction figures. Yes some are highly detailed in both modes, but gimmicks like the one on Galvatron kinda make me feel like they're taking a lot of the "transforming" out of the "Transformer". It's more like each limb is hidden rather than actually part of the vehicle. The only true transformer part of him seems to be the legs which become the back of the truck. Everything else is just a "reveille the limbs" kind of thing.
After seeing the movie now finally, a lot of the design elements here make so much more sense, even the shell forming transformation pretty well can be forgiven. The empty chest is something of an interesting element as to the nature of his existence.
I hope the idea of "Truck Megatron" comes true. I mean, a Tank, Jet... Are all "chicés" for a leader of enemy robots. The truck is perfect. Optimus is the good guy truck and Megatron is the bad guy, also a truck. Nemesis style of enemies.
See, here is my problem with this figure: he has no personality. The movie figures have been doing a REALLY good job of giving the characters personalities. Hound is covered in weapons, Crosshairs and his coat, Drift with his samurai look, the royal knight Dinobots, so on and so forth. But Galvatron is just... a silver robot. It is really sad ESPECIALLY since DotM Megatron had such an AMAZING look. I love that figure because he has so much persoanlity with his hooded cloak and his dirty body and his cannon (and his gun if you get the shapeway upgrade). THis is just, sadly, a step back. Sorry Galvatron, but DoTM Megs will remain the leader of my Decepticons for now.
While the lack of personality is disappointing, it could wind up fitting for the character, at least at first. Assuming he was intended to be nothing more than a remote controlled drone, the generic, bland look would make sense. Maybe the designers decided to go with function over form.
DaPopeANata Possible, but I still wish they had done something to make him different. I remember seeing a shot of his vehicle mode more in black... I think that would have looked even more interesting had they gone with a black Galvatron rather than dull gray.
That is a truly horrifying amount of kibble. Also, according to the tfwiki, it's confirmed that Galvatron is human-built but joins the Decepticons. I totally agree that this does not even remotely resemble everyone's favorite raving, psychopathic powerhouse tyrant. He just sort of looks like a generic bady, which'd be fine if it weren't supposed to be, y'know, Galvatron.
Jarmo Verriet i feel like if they just called him motormaster ti wouldn't change the story at all. unless this incarnation of galv plays a significance into the overall story then im not buying it, but again we will have to wait and see.
Transformers now have no transformation, it's all just hidden arms and legs. Bring us back something like the human alliance or alternator series, that way we can at least get some joy from Transformers.
Are these G1? No. In the 80's they didn't have the technology that we have now to design our products, they should at least put in some sort of leg or arm transformation, not this "separate the legs and then just flip out the feet and your done". Compare this line with DOTM or ROTF, you'll see how basic these figures actually are now, Deluxe is basically a scout class, Voyager is basically a deluxe and the leader class should be a Voyager. This toyline is supposedly to make it easier for the younger generation but honestly I was able to transform an Alternator without any instructions when I was 9. If todays kids find the movie toys too difficult then that makes me feel sad, I love transformers to this day but the way things are going I just feel like it is getting a little lazy.
These figures are based on Concepts of the CGI model, not the final design as it takes Hasbro one year (or close to) to produce a figure, is this guy perfect? No. but he isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, figures can still be great even if they are shellformers, as long as the detail is good and they cane pose well what's the problem?! and good! im glad these guys are basic! (hell they aren't even basic, they have the same level of transformation as current generations figures) ROTF had some the most frustrating figures i have ever come across, and the DOTM line was just bland, it had soem good figures but there was an awful amount of grey in that line. and they didn't feel that well put together barring a few. Give it year and we will even better figures based on the CGI models, not concepts. just like in 2007 when we had blocky figures, who werent 100% accurate (Original deluxe bee, Megatron, Prime) but in ROTF we were blessed with leader megs and prime and battle blades bumblebee...same situation here.
ThePlank1991 Err, no. Shellformers can not be great Transformers. Good perhaps, but not great. Because the point you seem to be missing is that the transformation is half the reason we buy transformer figures. Most of us want the process of transforming the figure itself to be fun and involving. It is NOT enough to simply have good detail and poseability. Why do you think the Action Masters line bombed? Why do you think so many of us are pissed off at the simplified transformation schemes of recent figures? Though I do agree with your point that the ROTF line had some pretty frustrating figures. But they've gone too far in the opposite direction. Hopefully the later releases will improve on what we've got so far, because apart from the Dinobots and a couple of others, I'm really not all that interested in the new line.
I feel like you can just remove the back pack in robot mode and i can still see a few tabs that the cab would attach nicely in vehicle mode even if it was removed from that joint holding it to his back. just a thought. he would look so screen accurate with the cab removed.
4:36 SHELLFORMER ALERT! Though its not actually a bad looking robot mode, and the way he backpack folds up is pretty cool. But it seems they just didn't really bother all that much with the paint apps. His face in particular is just a mass of grey plastic with some gold paint around the eyes. It has some nice detail, but they just didn't care enough to bring it out.
I find it funny how there's a bunch of "OH GOD WHY? ALL THE TOYS ARE CHEAP SHELLFORMERS NOW!" comments, right at the same time as Evasion Mode Prime, Hound and Scorn come out.
I actually like the generic look of him, we know there is going to be more him in the film thanks to the Kreo set (Galvatron factory) so its obvious that if Megatron does take over he only takes over 1. Should be interesting to see though.
Just got this guy today and really like him. After seeing the movie the backpack totally does not bug me at all, as it wold have been impossible with the way he transformers on screen.
He humans (us) try to build Galvies body like Prime, but since they were transferring something from Megatrons head into Galvatron, Megatrons became reborn as Galvatron.
I'm sure it's humans using the remains of Megatron to build a TF and he becomes Galvatron. And for all the complaining, how else could Hasbro make robots that match the designs from the movie without a good amount of shellforming and/or kibble?
Probably by making them so big and so complex that they would be far too expensive to make, and therefore even more expensive to buy. I'll take shelformers over that any day.
I don't really have an issue with this being Galvatron... at least not any more than the guys from the other three movies being called Megatron. Hate that design to begin with but this does look like Megatron from the first three movies being rebuilt as Galvatron. If you're just looking at the vehicle mode then yeah it does look like Motormaster, RID Scourge, or Nemesis Prime would of fit that vehicle mode but looking at the robot mode, it's an upgrade of movie Megatron.
I really want hound and drift and galvatron but my parents keep telling me to stop "wasting" money on transformers (I'm 11) any one else have this problem?
I think the term you're looking for is 'Cab over'. I normally hate shellformers, but this is such an interesting treatment of shellforming that it actually feels more like a feature than a flaw.
Looks good in Truck mode & nice job with hiding the backpack. Megatron / Galvatron? This is a Micheal Bay film which simply means: Forget about your childhood memories of G1 transformations. I agree that we should call him: Generic Bad Guy Robot Toy Thing.
I just don't know why they chose this design for a robot mode since it has nothing in resemblance to the vehicle mode. The designers had no choice but to make the thing fit under the cap and make the whole front a backpack. That's one thing I hate about the bay films, they don't know how to realistically integrate the car modes into the robots.
Remember what Brains said? Megatron's mind wasn't as dead as everyone thought. It spoonfed KSI the math and science they needed to build him a new body. Different name, but same guy underneath.
Chris Dodds Remember how Frenzy was alive after being decapitated? As well as Long Haul (Aka, Igor) in TF3? This leads me to the assume that it's possible that not all cybertronians have there spark located in their chest. It's possible that alot of cybertronians have their spark located in their head. It would explain everything.
He is a shellformer because he *minor spoiler* doesn't transform at all. He does the same molecular particle thing that stinger does. So necessarily this is completely accurate. Just take the pin out and remove the cap backpack
The fact he is Galvatron and not a leader class toy shows how insignificant he will be in the movie.....I also agree Motormaster would have pleased the fans more.
i hope in the next movie they'll improve these toys. i feel like im just unwrapping a truck to the the toy out. like theres no satisfaction for these toys except some of the deluxe and voyager optimus prime
Well, even if the movie sucks we'll have some decent toys crop out of it. I wasn't feeling any of the deluxes, but this is 3 out of four voyagers so far.
A couple videos ago: "I really like these test shots, because you get to see all this molded in detail that gets lost by paint." In this video: "Lack of paint apps really hide the sculpted in detail." okay.jpg
There's something wrong with changing your mind? It's one thing to see test shots and than to get the thing in hand because I swear I have heard before things have been better or worse than the test shots.
First thought on the silver truck was Motormaster, I figured the human made transformers were going to be the Stuntacons. My guess now is that the Dinobots are going to be the human made now, and they sent Mega-scrap into space and all the rumblings of a Unicron movie will come in 5... The hole in the chest is where Bay seems to be screwing it (up).
yo i know people hate this figure a lot but for me i don't really mind his ugly backpack because Galvatron is my first Age of Extinction figure for the Transformers movie series , Turk mode i really enjoy his look and robot mode i also like it and he have a very cool shotgun better than Lockdown .
I found him at a local Wal-Mart. I picked him up, looked him over, and just .... couldn't buy him. Aside from the lack of paint details (I would have just used a black acrylic wash to bring out his facial features), the figure has this squished, flat-ish look to him. He was solid, sure, but he actually managed to look worse than the figures they make for little kids to play with.
I wish Galvatron's backpack would become a saw or a shield, mabey a sword. In the movie TAOE it shows on how Galvatron cutting the car in half.It would be better if the backpack would become his saw.
One the one hand, it's a shellformer. On the other hand, the shell itself collapses cleverly. Maybe if it had just been a tad more clever with the collapsing, I'd be all over this figure.
Hasbro wanted the new line to be easy enough for kids to figure out. For instance: DotM Leader Sentinel Prime or HftD Leader Starscream are really complex, and with them still being toys, kids won't be able to figure them out. Hell, even most adults have a hard time transforming them. Don't get me wrong, I consider them among the best, if not THE best figures the Movieverse has cranked out, I can see why Hasbro lowered the complexity of the new line. That said, I don't think I'll be getting most of the new Movie's line. Maybe Evasion Optimus, Hound and a few Deluxe Dinobots, but I just don't like most of them. It is what it is.
Oh yeahh! robots in disguise! Giant canon stuck on top of a truck! way to go hasbro :D
The robot mode actually kind of resembles Transformers prime Megatron. The head, chest and overall build look very similar. In fact the hole in the chest actually resembles Megatron's dark energy on spark. And in the film Frank Welker voices him.
For a shell former I do appreciate the engineering to actually fold up the backpack, that's a nice touch...But it's still a shell former.
I guess it is kind of off topic but does anybody know a good place to watch new series online?
I kinda have a love/hate feeling about some of these Age of Extinction figures. Yes some are highly detailed in both modes, but gimmicks like the one on Galvatron kinda make me feel like they're taking a lot of the "transforming" out of the "Transformer". He doesn't really look like a Transformer to me. He does remind me of an Archfiend monster from Yugioh though.
His head looks very evocative of Beast Machines Megatron to me.
You forgot the good ole Walther P-38
He was a truck in dotm
Nice toy. It just arrived a few weeks ago. I opened it up and started to play. It is a nice figure. Any way thanks for the review! !
See, here is my problem with this figure: he has no personality. The movie figures have been doing a REALLY good job of giving the characters personalities. Cause G1 Figures CLEARLY weren't shell formers, especially the ones like Jazz and Prowl who had an entire car on there back chest and legs!

I agree 100%. I also hate that Leader class figures are smaller now (yet the same price).
Well, at least for a shellformer, he is by far the best.
I mean, his shell isnt as "big and stupid" as other transformers.
The figure looks cool.
The robot mode looks like a McDonald's toy.
What mcdonalds do you go to? Because that's one damn good toy.
XD
Transforminman Compared to the 2007 movie and ROTF, this looks plain and uninspired.
Transforminman I think he means the dull grey plastic because if not wow that is one detailed McDonald's toy
Yea. I just dont like when people complain about overall good toys.
I can see a Huffer or Pipes be made out of this. Especially with the way the cab is on his back.
f*** the haters, I like it, and im an MP/Classics collector.
I feel like you can just remove the back pack in robot mode and i can still see a few tabs that the cab would attach nicely in vehicle mode even if it was removed from that joint holding it to his back. just a thought. he would look so screen accurate with the cab removed.

Should be interesting to see though.
I'm a little bit in love with how that cab shell collapses.
The issue is that the movie Galvatron has no truck kibble anywhere on his body so the toy needs to have some place to get it out of the way.
I love the packaging on these :)
Anyone know if we're getting a Leader class Galvatron at some point?
Given his movie Transformation, I think they did a good job working with practically no feasible transition between forms.
No he uses the cannon if you look carefully at the trailer when Optimus has him you can see his arm cannon
“Hasbro toy shop” 😢😢 man I miss those days
Wow. Such shell. Much simple.
Freightliner Argosy! Thats the truck name! :D
...I like it. He'll look good on my Galvatron shelf next to my other Galvatron toys.
Thanks for the review.
I know I'm picking up Hound and Optimus, and I might pick this guy up to.
His hollow chest core should have had a jewel like orb like on Wing Zero
Amazing. This actually looks more like G1 Megatron, than the movie Megatron ever did.
when does Wave 2 come out?
I'm sure it's humans using the remains of Megatron to build a TF and he becomes Galvatron.
And for all the complaining, how else could Hasbro make robots that match the designs from the movie without a good amount of shellforming and/or kibble?

I actually like this guy. All he needs is some paint and I'd be very happy. Hopefully Takara will do a awesome paint upgrade.
Looks good in Truck mode & nice job with hiding the backpack.

That's one thing I hate about the bay films, they don't know how to realistically integrate the car modes into the robots.
Umm rotf leader class optimus?
Seems from the comment section there's some major hate for him, but I want to do some washes and paint to bring out that detail.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
He is actually Megatron.
What I want to know is how the hell did Megatron survive Optimus putting an ax through his head and then ripping it off?
Hes not megatron. Part of megatrons soul went into him
Galvatron shares the memories of Megatron and Sentinel, but mostly Megatron.
Remember what Brains said? Megatron's mind wasn't as dead as everyone thought. It spoonfed KSI the math and science they needed to build him a new body. Different name, but same guy underneath.
Chris Dodds Remember how Frenzy was alive after being decapitated?

This leads me to the assume that it's possible that not all cybertronians have there spark located in their chest. It's possible that alot of cybertronians have their spark located in their head. It would explain everything.
Great review! Can the gun somehow plug into the hollow space on the underside of his forearm? #3 on my to get list.
He is a shellformer because he *minor spoiler* doesn't transform at all. He does the same molecular particle thing that stinger does. So necessarily this is completely accurate. Just take the pin out and remove the cap backpack
This person deserves a free movie accurate Galvatron for figuring this out among others. Anyone else would too
Where the fuck is the transformation? He's wearing a backpack on his first day to school - nothing is integrated with the robot at all.
I’ve always liked this figure
Simple fast and fun
The truck mode is called a freighliner argosy
can you post a comparison picture next to classics voyager prime or an incarnation of the prime mold? thanks
I certainly am going to get him. Mostly just so I finally have Galvatron in some form.
Character development in Bayformers? Thats funny one! :D
Galvatron, he has no soul, and that is why he has no fear.
The fact he is Galvatron and not a leader class toy shows how insignificant he will be in the movie.....I also agree Motormaster would have pleased the fans more.
Heresy that Galvatron would be a truck to begin with, but three films in who expected any better from Bayformers?
i hope in the next movie they'll improve these toys. i feel like im just unwrapping a truck to the the toy out. like theres no satisfaction for these toys except some of the deluxe and voyager optimus prime
So it's an okay prototype, but when do we get to see the painted version of the toy? ;-)
he is a decepticon , you know a evil version of the autobots.
Well, even if the movie sucks we'll have some decent toys crop out of it. I wasn't feeling any of the deluxes, but this is 3 out of four voyagers so far.
For the beginning of the video what's the Music called?
Nice review.I am really looking forward to getting him.
I actually really like this figure!
Excellent review man. This movie-line toys are sadly lacking though. Remember how all Leader Classes used to come with lights & sounds...
Need to have an arm cannon? -kinda looks like a Dremel could do the job easily enough! ;)
all the previous movie megatrons looked EPIC!!!! now this is how we're supposed to accept the new megs/galvatron?!?! -.-
Oh wow my ad that i got before the vid started was the oreo TF4 commercial
I just got this figure today and the front tires are missing I called hasbro and they didn't have the replacement parts for it
Good call on Motormaster
A couple videos ago: "I really like these test shots, because you get to see all this molded in detail that gets lost by paint."
In this video: "Lack of paint apps really hide the sculpted in detail."
okay.jpg
glad I'm not the only one who thought that
There's something wrong with changing your mind?
It's one thing to see test shots and than to get the thing in hand because I swear I have heard before things have been better or worse than the test shots.
Nothing wrong at all with changing your mind I do it often, just thought it was funny that's all
Fair enough.
This is certainly a toy line to create some interesting responses.
Add a little more blue on his head and armor and he'd be a pretty wicked looking Galvatron.
Is there going to be a voyager optimus in his upgraded form?
Hey Peaugh, are you planning on getting the Microblaze Creations Bruticus upgrade? That new Onslaught looks amazing.
Lol talk about shell-forming. Nice alt and robot mode though. He looks pretty solid, like he's freakin' Akuma or something.
Is that the same size as DOTM Voyager toys or much smaller?
I was watching the movie and wonder if they were originally suppose to be the Stunticons.
Feel better man!
To me his truck mode kind of looks like Bulldog from the M.A.S.K. racing episodes, but I am probably the only one who thought of that.
To me it just looked like a truck :P, but then again all trucks look like that in England anyway
Don't like the idea of him being a shell former but in both vehicle and robot mode he looks really good
This Galvatron looks more like a rebuilt Starscream.
i might buy this toy just to paint him purple and orange and leave some grey in there to see how it looks
I feel the same thing, bro. I used to collect all the Bumblebees now the AOE one is crap.
I really want this cuz he looks cool in the trailer and I have never owned a Galvatron.
yah,I agree in 6:40
here is some help they are called Cab-over cause the cab is over the engine
The shotgun was meagtrons
yo i know people hate this figure a lot but for me i don't really mind his ugly backpack because Galvatron is my first Age of Extinction figure for the Transformers movie series , Turk mode i really enjoy his look and robot mode i also like it and he have a very cool shotgun better than Lockdown .
I think this custom does this mold justice: www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/985611-age-extinction-voyager-galvatron.html
I really hope these are only first editions to be replaced by better figures in the future.
he reminds me of classics voyager optimus/ultra magnus/nemesis prime
LOVE IT AND DONT SAY it is a bad toy
It's a freight liner arga z
its a frieghtliner agrosy there australian trucks *i think *
I can't wait to buy this figure :)
It's not showing up at my walmart
