They don't have to be proper looking dinosaurs to be dinobots look at scorns cgi it has 3 sails not one and look at slug hes a mix of a triceratops and a stegosaur
Not a bad figure, i like him more than the other deluxe dinobots. His colour isn't hurtful to my eyes. He just looks more coherent. He is actually not a Dinosaur at all though, but a flying reptile.
even though people keep saying that Strafe ins't Swoop, i have reasons to believe that it is him. Strafe is probably just a name slapped on to sound more fierce and intimidating. Which is kind of odd, because Strafe is a different character from G1.
For the life of me I still don't know what Strafe's beast mode is. Overall it reminds me Hatzegopteryx because of the v-shaped head crests and the massive wingspan (though Strafe's wings are a lot deeper than the relatively thin wings of advanced pterosaurs), but the long tails are a feature of much more primitive pterosaurs like Rhamphorhynchus. So I guess whoever designed him just made a chimaera out of various pterosaurs. Transformations for flying animals are up there with jet formers - there's so little mass to the central component there's simply nowhere for it to go without adding unneeded bulk. Maybe their best bet with the robot arms was to have them become the beast arms by wrapping around the wing membrane and use panels to alter their silhouette? I dunno. But I see lots of little details I'd have changed if I engineered this thing, since Pterosaur-formers aren't exactly new.
ltranc Pteranodons had much longer crests off their heads. Compare this guy's crests to Swoop's. Plus, as I said, pteranodons were advanced pterosaurs thus their tails were nubs. Long tails with rudders like that are a sign of a more primitive one. I think they intentionally avoided Pteranodon to make this guy his own character.
Jake Leonard The colors are a matter or opinion. To me, Animated Swoop has a much better color scheme. Also intelligence is not a factor since these are Dinobots we're talking about. Lastly, a more accurate pterosaur alt mode is better than a bulky mythical two-headed one.
Funny how most are complaining about his arms being clearly attached to his wings yet that's where most Beat Wars figures had them as well. I totally agree that if the hands folded away,it would look better, but I don't see any of us out there designing figures for a couple million people to like/hate. As for the gorilla arms,I don't like them as well, but I can live with them. At least we got a Strafe figure, and I can name quite a few Transformers that have had worse alt modes/joints. I personally think Strafe is a great figure, people are just upset because it's not the way they wanted it.
***** If they had the heads becoming the legs, then people would complain because they would have to put fake heads on the chest in robot mode. The biggest problems for me in the "beast" mode is that the hands don't fold away and the heads don't peg onto the chest in robot mode. There isn't much you can do with the arms either seeing as how a Pterodactyl doesn't exactly have a big body mass. If you have the arms going into the body, then there would be huge gaps on his sides in robot mode. I can't see them being the tails because then the tails would be too thick. Like I said, them attaching them to the wings makes the most sense,I just wish the hands folded away.
FYI, these are available in the "evolution two pack" at Toys R Us for $14.95. I don't think the stand alone deluxe figure will be out until wave 2 at other retail stores.
I haven't seen anything definite yet, but I can assume it will be just before or just after the movie's opening date. Just speculation, but it's an educated guess based on Hasbro's past records of using movie hype to push the figure's sales up.
i actually really like his alt mode.. it doesn't bother me at all. what does bother me however are, like you pointed out, the inward bending elbows.. it's 2014, why won't hasbro knock that crap off, it's so annoying.. they threw a joint in there at serves ZERO purpose. it just doesn't make any sense. and the second thing that bothers me are the shape of the legs.. how the thigh bows outwards near the knee.. i don't understand why they did that. and the last thing is the ports that hold his "swords" in his alt mode. i wish they were placed somewhere else would would allow to wing to spin 180 degrees to get a more half wing/G1 swoop look. but i guess that's a fix i can do on my own. the other problems aren't easy fixes. this figure as an extremely cool look.. i love the placement of the heads in robot mode. there are just some minor things that they could've done that would've made it a whole lot better. but, in their laziness, or ignorance, they chose not to fix his flaws.
Well there's one thing we need to tell hasbro, about the flip and change grimlock, I thought that concept was cool until grimlock didn't have any articulation cmon He's a BIG MUTHER FUGDER if I was younger I would not enjoy it, only in its dino mode, a little, but cmon it looks cool imagine that flip and change with articulation I mean tf3 toys they had more articulation, strafe will make it up. Badd ass looking and has more articulation, hasbro needs to makr a medium grimlock WITH REAL ARTICULATION I was dissapointed.
I actually got the "Fast ActionBattle-esc" one by kind of mistake, but I'll have to admit I really enjoy it. I'm not sure if I want this version as well, because even thought he's simpler, he's pretty cool. I'd say it has a bit more solid beast mode and lot less pieces to handle.
I wouldn't mind picking this guy up. I think he looks good in both modes, actually. The elbows don't bug me, nor the simple transformation. I don't think the underside of his alt mode is really an issue, I don't think there's too many people that will want to display him upside down. May not be everyone's cup of tea though, but still it's pretty decent. Thanks for reviewing him Peaugh!
I would've liked to have seen his alt-mode heads peg on to his chest somewhere - parts that can move around like that bug the heck out of me for some reason. Also, the gorilla arm thing is easily avoidable, and the wings should be able to "flap". Do the alt mode "claws" move? Looks like there's a swivel there, but it may just be how they attached them to the wings.
a very impressive combination. I feel him to be a grimlock and slash combination.he also has a dragon like look like grimlock so please reply about how u feel of wat mix he is
I think the dual heads bugs me the most here... I wonder if a third party company will be able to make some sort of replacement head (a single head) for the figure...?
Other than the tail how much of him and his weapons are made of that placticized PVC/ floppy plastic? Also I heard there was a port on the bottom of his crotch like prime that is stand compatible is that true? Thanks great review as always!
All the Dinobots should've been voyager class figures, at least with the small deluxe sized autobots it would've looked like they could ride the Dinobots, like its suggested with Prime riding Grimlock.
can you please help me? I placed my order on tf source and I am still waiting for it (I ordered it on 4th august 2014 and I live in India) but on the website it is showing as shipped but it has not yet come to me, please help me!
Any reason why you are using the voyager Grimlock to show instead of the the leader class grimlock. I have heard a lot of people say in his dinosaur mode grimlock is better in the voyager for the dinosaur mode and the leader mode is better for his robot mode. Is that why you have the voyager version shown.
I think he looks more like a 90's NOT-transformer than an actual licensed Transformer. What's with these near-monochromatic colorschemes? Aside from Drift (to repaint) there's nothing interesting coming out of the AoE line. imo
Sad... that's two of the Dino bots I might not get because of those stupid Gorilla arms... no reason they couldn't add a swivel somewhere on either the bicep, forearm, or wrist either.
Strafe is probably the simplest Deluxe figure i've had so far, he's more like a king sized cyberverse figure with extra detail which is still awesome.
thats not a dinobot!! thats not even a Pterosaurbot!
That, sir is a Kaijubot.
They don't have to be proper looking dinosaurs to be dinobots look at scorns cgi it has 3 sails not one and look at slug hes a mix of a triceratops and a stegosaur
DiamondNinjaz19 actually slug kinda looks like a Torosaurus. They are known to have giant picofibers on their tails and back.
Nah, Kaijubot doesnt have a good ring. KAIJUCON!!
This figure of swoop,is awesome. The transform kinda reminds me of a few starscreams! Epic!
"Crucified robot attached to wings..." You win the internet with that one!
I always wondered what the Sinanju would look like if it had a beast mode.
Lol 😝
Lol , are you gonna review neo zeong btw it look the same like Sinanju kinda
Not a bad figure, i like him more than the other deluxe dinobots. His colour isn't hurtful to my eyes. He just looks more coherent. He is actually not a Dinosaur at all though, but a flying reptile.
Y'know, one more head and we'd have a Pterodactyl version of King Ghidorah.
Yeah Gfan!!!
Dude, Your opening music is so Loud, it woke my kid, now I'm in trouble. Your my favorite reviewer, fan since DOTM.
I feel a sense of foreboding and foreshadowing in you describing him as looking like a "crucified robot" in alt mode.
even though people keep saying that Strafe ins't Swoop, i have reasons to believe that it is him. Strafe is probably just a name slapped on to sound more fierce and intimidating. Which is kind of odd, because Strafe is a different character from G1.

It's a toothed two-headed Pteranodon with two tails.
Ish thing of course.
ltranc Pteranodons had much longer crests off their heads. Compare this guy's crests to Swoop's. Plus, as I said, pteranodons were advanced pterosaurs thus their tails were nubs. Outclassed by Animated Swoop in all aspects.
agreed.
Disagreed
The colors on age of extinction strafe are much better than animated swoop
Also this guy is smarter than swoop
2 heads better than 1
Jake Leonard
The colors are a matter or opinion. To me, Animated Swoop has a much better color scheme. Also intelligence is not a factor since these are Dinobots we're talking about. Lastly, a more accurate pterosaur alt mode is better than a bulky mythical two-headed one.
Okay um in my option aoe strafe colors are better and I was making a joke about 2 heads better than one
Just got the TRUs exclusive of this guy. Love him! Might be a simple transformation but still a great looking toy.
Funny how most are complaining about his arms being clearly attached to his wings yet that's where most Beat Wars figures had them as well. ***** It's not weird to me either, but can we really expect a perfect figure from them everytime? No one person or company has a perfect day/record.

These figures are meant for kids thats why they made his transformation short . Thats what they are doing now for the Age of Extinction toy line
Dontrell Anderson True, but that's for the main line of quick change toys, this is generations Strafe.
Vraptor140 Yep, and also Hasbro said that they want to make Generations even more collector-oriented because the kids have the simple stuff now.
I like easy toys to transform and play with. Great Job Hasbro!
Except for flip and change grimlock I mean the dude hardly moves! And he's HUGE!.
I'd say visually (for robot mode) this guy and Scorn are my favourites.
I heard that they're coming out with Snarl and and analog for Sludge called Slog.
I wouldn't mind picking this guy up. I think he looks good in both modes, actually. The elbows don't bug me, nor the simple transformation. With the two heads, and the color scheme, I think he's also a nod to Double Cross from G1.
The more I see of Hasbro figures the more I want Perfect Effect Warden
Can you get the review for the new bumblebee out? The 2014 one ? Seems like a cool one;but not the rehashed leader. No rush, just when you can.
a very impressive combination. I feel him to be a grimlock and slash combination.he also has a dragon like look like grimlock so please reply about how u feel of wat mix he is
Did you notice that the swords peg on to the under part of the crossbow, kinda like the old power rangers power blaster?lol
i love it just wish there was a way to put the heads to make one head in dino mode
Very impressive wingspan.
Any idea when Slog and Snarl are coming out?
if slugslinger and swoop had a baby...
I think the dual heads bugs me the most here... I wonder if a third party company will be able to make some sort of replacement head (a single head) for the figure...?

That's what I thought when I first saw them
I like his design but we definitely need a studio series one
I like it i just love the blue and frankly i could care less about the transformation i just love how strafe looks in both modes i gotta pick this up
it looks like the lovechild of Swoop and Slugslinger!
Cool figure!
Why the hell did they feel the need to replace Swoop? One head wasn't enough for Bay?
The only part on this that bothers me is the warped rubber tail bending left. Is there a fix for that?
the only aoe figures I want to get are evasion mode optimus, strafe, crosshairs and drift. I'd get hound if his arms weren't wierd
where did u get him early
can you please help me? I placed my order on tf source and I am still waiting for it (I ordered it on 4th august 2014 and I live in India) but on the website it is showing as shipped but it has not yet come to me, please help me!

Honestly, from what I've seen, the Voyager's superior in every way
does it come with a stand
you can display him as a g3 (generation 3) dinobot
woohoo, under 300 club! I'm on the edge with this figure, the review will fix that :P
Why couldn't they have a single head split down the middle to form the shoulders. Double heads seems lazy.
Micheal bay.
well its how strafe was in g1
GodWeegee Nope, Two words,
Bay Former.
nope g1 strafe was a technobot with two cannons for his jet mode so its a homage to that
GodWeegee Still,
Every thing is a Bayformer In Transformer movies by Micheal Bay.
I think he looks more like a 90's NOT-transformer than an actual licensed Transformer. What's with these near-monochromatic colorschemes? Aside from Drift (to repaint) there's nothing interesting coming out of the AoE line. imo
So now you have all Dinobots
Wait! He now needs Slog and Snarl
Pterosaurs weren't dinosaurs, they were close relatives
DUNNA NANNA NUNNA NUNNA DUNNA NANNA NUNNA NUN BAT-SAUR!
How come my is diff +peaugh
Are these out yeat
Maybe they are now idk
Awesome
I'd like it if the two heads had different personalities. Sort of like a Beavis and Butthead or Ratchet and Clank.
all grit away to me
did you know there making two more dinobots .
It would be cool if the tails were a detachable swords
I accidentally bought the power battler version of this guy..
this figure completely disappointed, Swoop has always been my favorite...
:-(
New dinosaur: tyranadonadacalittlediddlethingy
youknow... "VOYAGER" optimus... i swear hasbro is getting cheap when you cant tell the difference between deluxes and voyagers.
I honestly feel that this guy should have been the mace wielder and not grimlock...
Lol this toy figure look like from mobile suit gundam wing EPYON!
Sad... that's two of the Dino bots I might not get because of those stupid Gorilla arms... no reason they couldn't add a swivel somewhere on either the bicep, forearm, or wrist either.
Has to should have made all the dinobots voyagers and leaders, not deluxes
I know right and I think you mean hasbo
Hi.
DIno rangers Roar !
Hasbro*
Finally get some new Dinobots and they are pretty meh, overall.
Best bot mode of the dinobots weak alt mode, and never a fan of the 2 headed beast
Ugh...two heads...why? Just....why?
thats not a dinosaur
Pterosaurs are not dinosaurs, that is correct.
no but its a dinobot
Dinobot
You would know best, hero
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to give it two heads and two tails? what a bunch of horse-shit
It's robot bot looks amazing however.
Who cares it's a kids toy
