Arturo Hernandez Yes, part one was rather depressing, but I guess that's history and how it happened. I would of really liked a movie detailing the early revolutionary environment of Cuba after Part 1, the executions of the old guard, the land reform, nationalizations, the sabotage by the CIA, the Bay of Pigs. Especially considering Che was in charge of Cuba's economy for a while and was one of the main forces to going toward a centrally-planned model like the Soviet Union.
I had the great luck to see both parts in Manhattan when they had it as a roadshow screening. Both films looked beautiful -- the Red One really made the terrain come alive.
Criterion Collection really puts good effort into package design. I love that. A friend of mine just picked up the Che Criterion Collection version and the package design looks great.
The moment I discovered Criterion were releasing an edition of this film, I stopped at nothing to get an import DVD from the US and it wasn't cheap but it worth every penny.
if only the world was like this......in terms of people actually caring for each other and organizing together so passionately - massively. unfortunately many are corrupted, confused, ignorant, oppressive and do not see currently structured capitalism and imperialism as the biggest threat to the world. Long live the struggle and the memories of what is worth fighting for! Long live the Che and what he stood for.
I Actually agree with you my online friend castro and che maybe had some bad ideas of socialism but their intent was indeed to help their fellow man as che quotes "love of/for humanity"

We're getting better comrade. There'll be enough of us soon. What matters now is organising wherever we can, however we can. We can't repeat the mistakes of the past; we need to bring the revolution to America and Europe. Only then will the socialist project finally be allowed to succeed or fail based purely on it's own merits. We need to save the world before it goes off the deep end with climate change. We're the only shot the world has at achieving this without sliding back into fascism. It has to be us.
All you commenters are romantic morons. When will you learn to look past what leaders say and see what they do? When will you stop looking for a hero or savior to follow and realize that human nature is always the same. If you murder to get to the top you’ll murder to stay there. The third world and oppressed people's of the earth learned to fight based on what Che formulated, but like Bolivia, or the Congo, and all countries that achieved independence but not a sustainable country built upon loving your fellow human, Guevara fought against exponentially grander odd's, and that is the lesson. To sacrifice against the unbeatable, to sacrifice against the overwhelming ease of corrupted existence. There are moments in Part 2 that feel Malick-esque. There is even a shot of tree tops blowing in the wind from a perspective of looking straight up that reminds me of a similar shot near the end of The New World.
I don't get why this was in 2 parts, yeah sure it's 4 hours in total but they could've just it down to 3 hours for theatrical release and there problem solved.
I think it thematically works as part 1 and part 2 are about different parts of his life, with part 2 being based multiple years after part 1 and heck beyond that you've got part 1 being about his triumphs during the Cuban revolutionary War and part 2 being about his failure in Bolivia which lead to his execution by the Bolivian army and the CIA
I listened to a few podcasts about Che and watched a few documentaries so was looking forward to watching the film and was very disappointed. Missed out a lot of key moment, didn't really depict him accurately from what I read and one of the battle scenes was wayyyy too drawn out. Will not be watching part 2. 5/10
Benicio es un GRAN ACTOR, pero se equivocó en esta película ... Él no se sentía en la piel que es vivir en un país bajo la dictadura sociales / comunista ...
if a 4 hour biopic was made about Mussolini, would so many people swoop in and woo over it? communism is as horrific as Nazism, no communist or marxist revolutionary, particularly Che Guevera, a ruthless killer, should receive such praise and glorification. Seems like a good film despite that, though.
Don’t ever equate those two things. If communism was as bad as Nazism then the people of east Germany and Eastern Europe would have been exterminated long before the fall of the eastern block in the early 90s. What you’re doing is repeating a fascist talking point. “See the communists killed lots of people too so they are just as bad!” But you’re ignoring the fact that the Nazis had straight up death camps and killed 11 million people in 4 years. They also purposely targeted people because of their race and religion. That by the way would have been just the start if they won the war because they intended to exterminate most of the Slavic people in Eastern Europe and enslave the rest.
This is such an underrated two part movie. How Benicio Del Toro didn't get nominated for an Oscar is beyond me.
You think America would give this movie an award?! 😂
Che himself would probably be glad his biopic was not awarded by an American organisation
