    One pedal driving: I understand the point is to have separate controls for regenerative vs. friction brakes. More control! :) If Volvo goes back to hard buttons (keep at it, Mazda!) I’m in.

      I just took the car for a test drive and it had One pedal driving disabled. Pressing the brake pedal doesn't immediately mean its using friction brakes, because when you do press the brakes, you can see the charge meter climb up as you would expect it to. Volvo has very seamlessly blended regen and friction braking, with a heavy emphasis on regen. I'm actually in love with this car already

    • @mattc1507
      @mattc1507 Рік тому

      This is true with Tesla, but every other brand uses the motor for braking when using the brake pedal except during hard braking. It's a much better system than Tesla, much more control.

    I'm just saying if people knew how to adjust their side mirrors properly there would be no blind spots people need to adjust their side mirrors away from their cars then they will see the the traffic beside them No car has blind spots if you adjust your mirrors properly

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 2 роки тому

      ...so, then ALL cars should come with wide-angle side mirrors instead of plain/direct-view mirrors? Or at least a combo mirror for the driver side. What if the mirrors were on the front fenders for a better view?

      In all fairness, a fully loaded Hyundai, Kia, or VW EV isn’t too far off in price to that. You’re just paying a premium for the brand and not a huge one at that.

    • @lucky1206
      @lucky1206 Рік тому +1

      Your also not paying for gas, oil changes, routine maintenance, engine repair, and so on. I think for the price with most electric cars you're really getting more out of the price. Also not going to get gas at $3-$4 a gallon where people can charge their car at home or at a station where it would cost as much as $10 or less

    Just picked up my 23 C40 Ultimate. This was a great demonstration for off road use. Changed my mind about taking it camping. I’m really enjoying the car. One pedal driving took me a day to get use to, but i personally like it. It’s all in how you feather the throttle when coming to a stop. My wife uses the car as a realtor for her daily driving. Previously she was going through $150+ in gas each week.

      The North American all makes manufactured in Belgium / Europe except the new 2025 EX30 that’s in Asia but that will change soon because of the imposed tax tariffs on China. Volvo just annouced a shift in production for later models to Europe. They recently (2018) opened in a new plant here in the states In South Carolina which produces models EX90 , S60, and S60 Recharge. The Asian & Australian market is produced in China. All cars carry a manufacturers ID information in the engine to indicate where it was manufactured.

    226mi of range is absolutely not enough.. especially for 60k. Chalking up the need for more than that as only people who are cross country road tripping is short sighted. I live in FL, if I had this thing i wouldnt be able to drive to visit family like I often do who live 240mi away...in FL. Forget about if i encounter traffic...

    • @jediguy634
      @jediguy634 2 роки тому +2

      Agreed! I commute 100 miles a day in michigan. From what i understand under freezing temps you'll loose about half your range with non-heated and get back a little more if heated. If it snows and its really working that twin motor it wouldn't get me home.
      I really hope the manufactures start putting cold temp range included in their figures.

    • @furiangameclips
      @furiangameclips 2 роки тому

      @@jediguy634 oh yea I didn't even consider the cold being in FL, good point...itd be a different story if it was 220mi range but I could charge in 5min like gas/Diesel...maybe I'd deal with it but, im not gonna at 40min to each direction of my commute.

    At 01:38 you mentioned that a heat-pump should keep the battery operating at optimal temperatures year round however I believe that's not the primary goal of the heat-pump in an EV. The heat-pump has a 300-400% efficiency when compared with an electric resistance heater (which is 100%) and would use less energy from the battery to warm up the cabin during cold weather and improve the range. Volvo has a tool on their website where you can choose outside temperature and would provide an estimate on the range with/without heat-pump for this car.

    Great review. I haven't driven an electric car, but I'd imagine the one pedal driving must be weird. I also have to say I go back and forth about your comment on range. We're building a new house, and we asked for them to install an electric car outlets because it's much cheaper to do now, than later on. However, 226 miles of range is not much. If I drove to my fiancé's hometown to visit her family, it's about 75 miles, and than 75 miles back. That doesn't include any stops, or running around once we get there. Compared to my RDX, I'd have 380 miles of range. I'm not expecting 500 miles of range, but I think it'd be nice to at least be at 380, especially considering that the battery over time will lose range, AND in cold weather it'll go down.

    We have a 2018 Tesla model 3 that was rated at 310miles new. With 80k miles on it the battery is now capable of about 275 miles. It’s fine daily but we cannot drive two hours across SoCal traffic filled freeways to my mom’s and back without supercharging. Based on my experience 226 miles will (when the battery is new) really mean about 180 miles (if you only charge to 80% to keep the battery healthy). Then there is driving efficiency… which won’t be 100% unless you drive 60 mph or lower everywhere and drive like a Grandma. Normal people drive EVs at about 80 efficiency so that 180 miles turns into 145 mile… unless it’s cold when you lose up to another 30% of the 145 miles… which’s gets you to about 100 miles of real useable range on a single charge… which is fine for most people’s commute but actually starts to suck when you go anywhere on a weekend… forget driving cross country. And that’s new! Wait until your battery loses 10-15% of its capability after 3-4 years. Anyway… long story even longer… 226 isn’t nearly enough for even regular driving around town on a weekend. I wouldn’t buy another EV with less than 300 miles of range… preferably 350. I love EVs generally and have made the switch but you almost certainly will want more range than you think you need. 226 isn’t close to enough unless you have a backup ICE vehicle too. 226 really means half that range under real world conditions for most people.

      Interesting. I have a 2022 XC40 Twin with 18,000 miles on it. Charged to 90% the other day and the Guessometer was showing a range of about 245 miles. Software updates now give it a range of 260-270 miles, I guess through optimizing power to the motors. I charge 99% of the time at home on a 6kW unit, and am not seeing any battery deterioration. I’m also not driving on freeways as much as you, and the speed limit here is only 55 anyway. All newer models will have better range numbers, and those LFP batteries in a Tesla will probably outlive the car with little degradation. The big win is paying $5 a charge at home, which even our friends with an ICE Kia Soul are jealous of. So perhaps you should either consider a newer EV, or enjoy life in the slow lane!

      Charging at a charging station is similar in price to a gas station in terms of miles/$. Charging at home is where you save a ton of money, and is where you should be charging 98% of the time. Overall, I’d recommend going the EV route if you have a garage and don’t take long road trips all the time.

    With manufacturers making most of their money on parts, maintenance and service, what’re they planning on doing to make money since these electric vehicles are super low maintenance?

      I think that applies to dealers (at least the maintenance and service aspect). I'm not sure how much profit would be built into parts, but dealers do likely take a cut so I doubt it's a huge profit maker for the OEM.
